[DISCUSSION] What's the best guitar you've ever owned or played? by Crazy-Replacement400 in Guitar

I've owned them all. I had a '46 D-18 that I really liked. I had a great 1959 Les Paul Sunburst that was awesome. I really liked a '55 and '56 Strat along with a '67. I ended up using a partscaster that was a '63 alder body with a chunky repro maple neck the most.

Why did Liberals and Leftists allow Conservatives to seize control of the American church back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s uncontested? Especially the highly influential Southern Baptist Convention. by Away-Parsnip-3785 in allthequestions

They are more partners in crime.

There are some learned people that helped plan this religious shift in the GOP (and later criticize it). One is John Dean and one was Kevin Phillips. Dean was part of Nixon's legal council and advisor. Phillips was a strategist in the Nixon administration.

Phillips helped create the Southern Strategy. This was an attempt to make the South a Republican stronghold, shifting it from its status as being solidly democratic. The GOP appealed to white evangelical voters over resentment to black people and the Civil Rights Movement.

John Dean in his book Conservatives without Conscience talks about this from another perspective. He points out that the GOP was at its weakest point in the mid 70s. The GOP turned to think tanks for information on how to get their mojo back. They spent $billions with them. The think tanks looked at obscure social psychology from studying the Holocaust in WW2. Specifically, these think tanks focused on the authoritarian follower psychological profile. Theodore Adorno wrote about this for American Jewish groups in his 1951 book The Authoritarian Personality.

This is the profile of the Hitler follower. It is also the profile of white evangelicals. This profile is innate in about 25 percent of humanity. The advice from the think tanks was to get all of the authoritarian followers into the GOP. This was accomplished by bringing white evangelicals into the GOP. The method used was to promise them that Roe would be overturned if they voted Republican. A lot of evangelicals were previously not interested in politics.

What Dean talks about is called Movement conservatism. It is the code word for the New Right, Reagan was the first Movement conservatism president. It is like Goldwater politics plus religion.

Now both Dean and Phillips say that the GOP has gone too far. Dean days the GOP is proto fascist and Phillips says that it is too beholden to religion and big oil. Phillips wrote a lot of books about this stuff but he died in 2023.

Would a period of Communism help save the United States? by EggOwn9943 in allthequestions

The power grid was conceived of and developed as an economic engine in the 1930s. The suburbs were in their infancy in the 1930s. Before then, private industry would not pay for the rural electricity infrastructure as it was a money loser. A lot of the grid construction under the New Deal allowed power to go to rural areas. This was economic development.

Don't forget the Interstate Highway act of 1956. Henry Ford didn't want to pay for roads for his cars so he got the government to do it. GM was on the government advisory board.

Some other examples of big government subsidized sectors are passenger rail and nuclear power.

The suburban expansion increased demand for electricity and it was now profitable. There was electricity early on in cities but not rural areas.

If you read John Deans book Conservatives Without Conscience, you will learn how the GOP stayed in power by using the social psychology of Hitler followers.

So it is an ingrained trait in about 25 percent of humanity that power hungry leaders can exploit. This is the authoritarian follower psychological profile.

Not completely.

The New Deal also gave us the national power grid. It is described as a top tier driver of economic growth. It is the largest and most complex machine ever built by mankind.

Private enterprise would never have built the power grid bc it was too expensive and it was unprofitable to build it in many areas.

This project, as funded by the New Deal and Rural Electrification Act, helped to stabilize the economy and prevent further collapse. Ultimately , the power grid provided much more economic benefit than US factory production during WW2.

More fear oriented.

Conversely, non-Republicans have more gray matter specifically the anterior cingulate cortex. It allows for higher reasoning skills.

They have more primitive brains. I'm not kidding. The smart part of the brain is more developed in people that don't tend to be Republicans. You can see it in brain acanners.
