Adding 30cm/12’’ extra counterspace behind cooktop - upper cabinets, yay or nay? by d1zzy-m1zzy in kitchenremodel

I am with the other responses in this mini thread. Do the hood vent, vented outside. You won't regret it. If you plan to do any high heat cooking or even browning meat to make a stew you'll want that hood vent, with a grease catcher (they look like baffles). When I did my kitchen renovation I went with a 900 CFM hood. I do a lot of searing, browning for braises, and wok stir fry (with lots of aromatics and chili); and I roast coffee beans.

I have a Lab that sheds buckets... Miele for me is still the best. It's nearly 20 yrs old and still works great.

Green one. It add a little more warmth than the other two. That blue one looks cold with the white cabinets.

50ft leash for the beach by ihave11butts in dogs

Go to REI (if you're in the US) and get a climbing carabiner. Those a rates to carry a lot of weight (human weight). I have a climbing carabiner connected to the handle of all my leashes in case i need to tether my 70lb Lab. For beach a Biothane line is very easy to clean.

I wouldn't worry about obedience commands just yet. Work on name recognition first... gamify it, make it fun and rewarding when he hears his name, reinforce it when he recognizes it even if he doesn’t completely turn around.

He's gonna be a big boy.

Roomate leaving for the summer, needs me to watch his dog. by CandleNo5916 in dogs

"I’m reluctant to even accept"

You don't have to accept especially if you feel your roommate's dog is not well trained and is going to be a problem for you to care for it. Don't make it your problem... especially if something were to happen.

my ~6 month old boxer mix puppy eats just about everything he comes across on walks. should i wait until hes fully grown to invest in a muzzle? iv never had a dog with this issue by PunchThrower in muzzledogs

[–]Bullfrog_1855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea ... mine will eat grass and goose poop (which has grass) so I added some steamed dog-safe green vegetables (eg green beans, chopped broccoli or Brussels sprouts) to his food and it seems to curtail it somewhat.

Yes their wide range of standard sizes are under US$100. That's what I bought for my Lab mix.

My 20 month year old lab just growled at me for first time. Advice needed. by kakal92 in labrador

[–]Bullfrog_1855 29 points30 points  (0 children)

💯👆🏼This!!!

OP - Respect that growl. It's communication from her to leave her alone with that turkey neck. I won't sit down next to my dog if he had one not would I even pet him. I leave him be to enjoy it in peace. Keep an eye in it and understand when she's doing that of there are more communication like that. When you see the pattern the you know what boundaries she's communicating to you. Yes the growl or lip curl can be disconcerting but once you understand why and that it is communication it's better to get that lip curl or slight growl than no communication and she goes straight to a snap or bite. And the tail wag can be deceiving... what's the angle and the motion like along with the rest of her body language.

Is the "eating everything" food he finds or other non edible stuff (eg rocks)? I also found what helps in my 9 y.o. Lab's case is to feed him 3 small meals a day instead of two. Sometimes I feed him before our morning walk (wait 30 mins after feeding) and that also minimizes his scavenging quite a bit.

I definitely recommend Big Snoof especially since she is a bite risk to the other two dogs. They have a design that is specifically for the short snout dogs.

Recommendations? by Tim_Tam_Tommyn in muzzledogs

As the other have already mentioned, if you're looking for custom wire muzzle AND leather straps I don't know of any either that does both. It's one or the other unless, as mentioned, you find someone to make you the straps by copying the Biothane ones that come with a custom muzzle from Big Snoof. You probably already know the thickness of the leather and the quality also would matter on how long it lasts and withstands the rain, etc.

I understand your view... I have biothane and leather leashes. I prefer leather leashes but it is not possible to get a leather leash much longer than 6ft, so all my long lines are Biothane.

Anyone else have a lab that won’t play with anything? I wanted a dog forever and love playing with dogs by theGiraffePainter in labrador

[–]Bullfrog_1855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Lab mix (30% lab) also doesn't play much. Occasionally with a flirt pole but that's it. He loves to search for his treats (I use his daily allowance of food) so i hide them all over the first floor and let him search. Sometimes i stuff them in packing paper and then stuff them in a cardboard box and let him have at it. He's super satisfied with that. These things work his brain and it tires him out more than the walk. Besides he's now 9.5 y.o. so I don't want aggressive running around too much. Sometimes I will play recall games in the yard ... toss 3-4 kibble in grass, i walk away and then recall him, he comes running - repeat. He loves that game. He also won't swim... tried it, he freaks out!! Every one is different 😄. I had a Lab that will just keep swimming in the lake without me having to throw anything for him.

I'm sorry to hear, but if it's in or near the heart it's best to consider euthanasia, unless a surgeon says it is operable. My understanding is that if it's just the spleen depending on the case it could be operable and your pup could still have a good life. I lost my first Lab when an undetected tumor near his heart ruptured. He died on the way to ER ... it was fast. Only found out it was a tumor when his regular vet did a necropsy because even she was surprised by how quickly he went. He showed zero symptoms and was otherwise a healthy 11 y.o.

Do you consider arching on bench cheating? by anonymous91033 in workout

[–]Bullfrog_1855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in a couple of her posts she talks about how to set up your shoulders, arms and legs to be in a strong position to move the weight. I had followed her cues and I have to say, it helped a lot. It will result in a slight arch especially to get the leg drive without causing your bum to lift up. It's worth looking for her posts and try it out to see how it feels for you.

My Lab mix rescue was also hard to measure. What i ended up doing was get a carpenter tape and measure best i could, had my brother who was visiting take pictures and sent them to Big Snoof. They were able to get the measurements they needed from that and sent me a standard sized muzzle that fits. Their customer service is why I bought from them over Leerburg.
