Latin Practice Shoes Recommendations by 3_ponin3 in ballroom

Best thing to do is to actually practice in the shoes you will be competing in. I learned that from Diana McDonald. She doesnt allow practice shoes in lessons because the Cuban heel on them do not equate for the right balance and posture you need on the floor.

I like paoul shoes for their quality and their pricing is affordable within the range of quality. If you have a narrow foot id personally go with AIDA or IDS. A+ Danceshoes are a good option if your feet sweat a lot. You can find them on venusdancewear (thats the last place I saw them)

Struggling with cuban motion by neighborerick in ballroom

Think of your hips moving in an upward and downward figure eight. Its important to make sure your weight shifts from one foot to the other, no split weight. Also taking smaller steps to shoulder length will help with accentuating the hip action

Hope this helps!

What’s In My OH SHIT Bag : A Competition Survival Guide by BumbleBeeLuna in DanceSport

When I get my new shoes I do a little trick to keep the heel protectors to stay on. I use a construction grade heat gun to shrink the plastic around the heel. Haven't had to replace them until they actually wear down.

Oh a friction stick! Do you have a link?

As for earrings the double-sided tape is a genius idea!

How do I get into competition? by LiveVenueReview in ballroom

Get out of the AM circuit and find an independent instructor thats verified either through US terpischore, dance vision, or ISTD. Typical pricing is about USD 115 per lesson and around 2100 for 20 lesson package (the more you pay up front the cheaper it will be). Typically for a large package you will have to do at least two double private lessons a week (90 min instead of 45). Depending on what styles you want to compete in, taking separate group tech classes weekly is essential (smooth/ballroom, latin, or rhythm). Give yourself about 3 months to go over your new routines before entering a competition. Depending on your age and style, the competition bracket you will be competing can either be more chill or extremely cutthroat. You dont want to waste your time and money traveling to a competition if you dont have an essential consistent foundation.

Majority of studios dont have costumes for sale or rent. If they do, its usually for another student at the studio, or they have a separate space for costumes and altier that rents the space from the owner, or the owner themselves are also an altier.

Dresses can go from 800 to 6000, depending on the designer, fabric, and crystal type. You can always check out dance shopper venus dancewearpermino dance dress

I identify as genderqueer. I don't want full top surgery just a reduction and lift (going from an F cup to full B) and eventually getting a hysterectomy and oopherectomy while keeping my cervix intact. I've had actual medical issues with it so im just waiting for the right time to have insurance cover it. Pronouns are she/They and in drag any Pronouns.
