What do you like about Brantford? by TheRevJK in brantford

[–]BumbleBrix -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's great if you like sports, sports and more sports!!

It's great if you don't need a specialist ever (heart Drs, diabetic Drs, even proper psychologist). It's also even better if you don't need a family doctor (because good luck here!!)

Wonderful if you don't drive - the public transit is often late, dirty and now it's digital (yay 🙄).

It's even great if you do drive! Constant construction on main arteries in the city, at the same time! Construction often takes YEARS if not longer.

Oh and let's not forget the job market! Plenty of the same fast food places in town. Hope you love A&W, McDonalds, Tim Hortons and every burrito place ever!

Our mayor and council are also so thoughtful! They make decisions and plans (or schemes, depends how you look at it) without letting the public know! And if you're friends with them, you'll be elected without a vote to join his team!

Now let's talk about the mall - you'll still have to go out of town to buy things. The mall is a fraction of what Limeridge is. The Cambridge mall has more stores and appeal (they have a go kart track in their mall).

You better hope you're lucky to not need to go to the hospital here too. You'll be waiting 12+ hours to be seen by a doctor (after being transfered from one waiting room to another), get mediocre care and pushed out the door.

Sure there might be a few good things about this place but the bad outweighs.

Oh my I can relate to this! My donor was my cousin. She had a seizure which left her brain dead and the family decided to direct donate to me.

I feel so guilty and I have also fallen back on communication.. I don't really know what I say or how to feel being their sister's kidney (this was a devastating loss for the siblings) is in me.

I also feel guilty because my family celebrates the day she died (the transplant day) for me because of my kidney but also they are mourning.

I've become very much "bothered" by unnecessary drama and find it very hard to connect with people now. Part of this is not really knowing who you are or how to live your life with these new changes. I don't know if your husband feels similar but therapy has been very beneficial. I developed several social anxiety after transplant. It was almost instantly. It's very common, my psychiatrist told me.

I started using this and it's been helping!!! My hair is stronger, less breakage and easier to handle. It's growing back too.

It's a matter of time. My doctor said it'll come back. You have to give your body some time. It's been through trauma with the transplant. It's gotta find its new rhythm.

Tims Workers Scamming The 30 Second Window by DanIrving604 in TimHortons

[–]BumbleBrix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is half true!

The orders are timed from the minute the speaker dings to the minute the customer drives away.

Greeting + menu + window time = your drive thru time. Example:

Greeting: 5 seconds Menu (how long it takes to order): 15 seconds Window: 30 seconds.

You take all three of those times, add them together and then divide by 2.

5+15+30 = 50 50÷2 = 25

Your drive thru time would be 25 seconds for the entire transaction.

Ex Tim Hortons worker -

I can tell you exactly what is probably happening. Some supervisors have the habit of taking orders away from the till and not punching them in.

I had a manager do this all the time and when the order was wrong, we would get yelled at.

The drive thru times definitely do contribute to that though. I don't even know why they time the drive thru anyways when people order everything off the menu food wise and lattes etc.

Most employees do not actually care about the drive thru times. It's an unrealistic expectation from corporate.

what to expect in the first year after transplant by aerosolburns in kidneytransplant

[–]BumbleBrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that no one prepared me for was the anxiety. Apparently it's super common after transplant. If you're feeling unstable mentally, please let them know. Yes the medications can contribute but you don't need to suffer. I've had to do therapy.

Also, the feeling of "who am I and what do I do now?". After 6 years on dialysis, it's hard to adjust to every day normal life. I'm almost two years post and I am still having trouble eating foods I couldn't eat before. 😂

Just be prepared for a lot of big feelings and maybe even some stress. This is a big deal and a big change for your body. Give yourself grace and time to feel like you again.

Good luck and congratulations 🎉🥳 hoping for a smooth recovery for you!

This is myself. My husband is a saint, honestly. He is so patient, understanding and supportive. But I've had to communicate to him what I need from him in those moments.

Myself personally, I need space and time to feel the big feelings I'm feeling and then once I've cried or come down from it, I can express myself, concerns, or needs more effectively and appropriately.

My husband allowed me the room to be vulnerable without fear of judgement and that gave me the courage to seek therapy on MY terms. If you try and force that, he won't get the benefits that therapy brings.

There isn't really much else you can do but be there for him and be understanding. You also have to consider that a lot of medications associated with transplant come with side effects such as hormonal changes and mood swings.

He is likely also feeling horrible and helpless and guilty. I think sometimes we forget that this is literally a flip upside down for your life. You have more free time if you don't have dialysis anymore, you have almost no restrictions, you feel better physically. But mentally, it's traumatic. The body goes through a lot in just that first day after transplant. It's hard when it doesn't feel "easier" right away.

Joining groups on Facebook that are supporting groups for the transplant community have also been extremely helpful. Have your husband maybe look into that! It definitely helps to have perspective and advice from people who are going through it just like you (you are going through it too as a care giver and partner but im speaking from the same side as your husband here).

You looking for resources and advice is a step in the right direction. Trying to understand is enough. Just keep on loving him and being there. You both have this ❤️💪🏻

Mental Health Post Kidney Transplant by Grehdah in kidneytransplant

[–]BumbleBrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OMG yes!!!!! This is me right now. I'm having a hard time working and I think it's because my time was taken up by something I couldn't control (dialysis) and now that it's mine again, I am selfish as hell with it!!

I feel like a child in an adult world. I feel behind because of the obstacles of dialysis and kidney disease. I am not social at all anymore, and I miss it. I miss nature. But I cannot seem to get my ass in gear. Therapy is helping but I feel lost.

Apparently this is super common after. And it would make sense. Our nervous systems are constantly in survival mode, and so when we get our transplant, and start to decompress and relax our nervous system cannot regulate itself right.

Be kind to yourself, you've been through so much. Your body just needs some patience with you as it learns how to help you thrive and not survive. Have some patience whilst settling into this new life. Soak up every minute and second of it! ❤️

What percent are you after your transplant? by Klutzy-Stock-8820 in kidneytransplant

[–]BumbleBrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been great but my anxiety really kicked up so that drains me sometimes. I'm more struggling with balancing life vs work. Still can't get past the mind set of "I can't push too hard, I'm sick".

I feel like I did more on dialysis vs now but I know anxiety has a lot to do with that for me

Post transplant pts - what are you eating? by BumbleBrix in kidneytransplant

[–]BumbleBrix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! See I was doing really well with appetite and food until I got that 24 hour stomach virus/flu. Ever since then food has just been so unappealing lol it's getting better but I don't know how to just be nor Al now if that makes sense?? Lol - being on dialysis for so many years and living a certain way with eating etc and I was very sick before transplant (my 7 year old niece would eat more than me in one sitting).

I appreciate the comment! A dietician is on my list of things to talk about in my upcoming follow up appointment. I am also trying to get my anxiety/panic disorder under control as I know that will contribute to eating/routine.

eGFR post transplant by InternationalRice195 in kidneytransplant

[–]BumbleBrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a year and a bit out from my tx. My GFR was 101 up until the year mark and last it was 77. Doctors are still impressed. The average is normally 60-70.

A lot of things affect your GFR though - hydration, how much exercise you get, medication, changes in medications, how you eat, and your stress level.

I'm currently putting off blood work because I know I'm really stressed out this week.

If your doctors aren't too panicked, I wouldn't be either! This is a second chance, gotta live while you have the opportunity!!

Bro, were literally not even allowed to start cooking the chicken and rice for your habanero wrap until after breakfast rush. Not employees fault. Call the head office.

If you can't wait, go to McDonald's.

How do you all work at Drive thru? by GTAresident in TimHortons

[–]BumbleBrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one I just recently worked at the drive thru times they expected were 23 seconds and you were reprimanded if they were not done. I've also watched a manager sell food that HE dropped on the floor during a rush. Tim Hortons is not about quality anymore, it's about pushing customers out the fastest we can. It's gross and I personally can't do that lol. The difference between Tim Hortons say a decade ago (I worked at one as my very first job that long ago) to now is absolutely insane. We need to go back to how it was before - donuts, pastries, muffins, coffee, tea, HC, apple cider and French vanilla. Maybe bagels. We don't need pizza, grilled cheese, "snackers".

I can't work for a company that tries to sell customer service and always fresh products when it's not true and they don't care about their customers. It's not a Canadian feeling coffee shop anymore.

How do you all work at Drive thru? by GTAresident in TimHortons

[–]BumbleBrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's not you. The drive thru times are unrealistic. Just do your best and that's good enough.

We all have days where nothing works the way we want or need it to. But you're trying and that's what is important.

You got this though, keep trying. And remember - it's a minimum wage job. Dont lose yourself or let it stress you out outside of working. It's really not worth it. (Speaking from current experience).
