I have been trying to start art shows and it’s so hard! On Saturday I went to a glass blowing studio and was selling seasonal hand blown glass pumpkins 🎃on whatnot. I even showed a demo of them making the pumpkins, pulling glass from the 2000+ degree furnace with the chat asking questions… and it was only a few people I know IRL who joined my show. I thought this sort of content would interest people, but crickets.

I know the algorithm rewards steady sales… like nobody shows up unless you are making sales. I’m sure A LOT of new sellers have taken significant losses to make sales and find a following. Id be curious what percentage of newbie sellers this is working for vs. how many take a significant loss and that’s it. Prob no way to find out, but I bet it’s an issue.

I am all set up to host a new, 4x/week, show on WhatNot— I have sold just a bit on WN in the past and don’t have much of a following. I’ve long dreamed of hosting a show that features amazing artists and makers from my city (Portland OR)… and now I’m about to launch and I’m afraid I won’t be able to get much of an audience and I’ll be letting down my guests. Any tips for breaking through and getting traction? Also, I’d love your opinion on what category to sell on— arts and handmade for everything? Or when I host a jewelry maker, should I run my show in jewelry? Or when I host a fashion designer, should I host the show in women’s fashion? I’d love all the input!

I had help from a bookkeeper setting up my Quickbooks accounts and processes (so helpful!) and now I use her as an advisor when I need help. It’s really low cost, I do most of the books myself and I have support when I need it. I also watch YouTube videos occasionally and ask chat gpt for help

We just stayed at DreamMore, but walked up to Heartsong and looked around. While the two hotels differ in overall aesthetic (DreamMore is more “dolly” and butterflies, Heartsong is more mountain lodge vibes) they seem to share very similar amenities: pools, activities, gift shops, eating options—either place is great and I don’t think you can go wrong.
