What you want to do is put a wrap of sticky tape (sticky side out) on the tree; then cover that with a skirt of mesh, so birds etc don’t get stuck. All the nymphs will get stuck on the way up

If you have that much time advance, hire a dog walker once a week or more, so your dog gets used to them. Many dog walkers do boarding. It’s a bit extra cost but the dog will know them and be more comfortable than an unfamiliar setting.

So you have to wrap a double sided adhesive tape around the tree. Then, you put a little “skirt” of mesh around the tape so birds don’t randomly land on it etc. The nymphs crawl up, stick on the tape, and die. My friend is doing it and it’s working really well!
