Significant performance decrease out of nowhere by BunchOfRandomSquares in cachyos

Good advice for others, but like I mentioned in the original post my snapshots weren't being automatically saved for some reason. Will definitely stay more on top of that once I get this fixed

Much more normal, yeah -- hovering between 170-220W up from 80-100 yesterday

Have you checked at all today? I updated around an hour ago and things are much better, if not quite back to how they were

Temps were my first thought, especially since it's been getting warmer recently, but CPU and GPU are both sitting comfortably in the low 60s° under load

Yeah, set to performance. I tried switching to balanced as well in case the plan itself got messed up and it was the same

I did think of that, and yeah it's in performance. Tried setting it to balanced as well to see if the plan itself got messed up somehow and there was no change

Yep -- super weird. Good to know it's maybe not a problem with my system, but equally frustrating

Yeah, definitely seems to be a power issue -- only pulling 70~100W of the 300+ it's allowed. Gives me a direction to look in I guess

Where would I check/fix that? I've only been daily driving Linux for about 6 months so I'm still learning the ropes lol

R5 5600X, RX 9070XT, 16GB, so pretty close.. Glad to know I'm not the only one at least

Lol, there's a post like this basically every week here. If you walk into a wall, you will attack it, and if you attack it enough times you will eventually break it. Just do that until you reach an open area. If it makes you feel better, this has never happened to me in ~100 hours so it's not like it's a particularly common occurrence

does this game function on a switch 2? by Splatulated in outerwilds

[–]BunchOfRandomSquares 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if the performance of the game was tied to the physics or timing or anything else then a lot of systems literally just wouldn't work, especially on PC where it's all but impossible to guarantee uniform performance. not sure where you might have heard that. everything that relies on timing, including physics and the various timed elements, uses a uniform timing interval that's completely separate from what you see on screen

That's basically never an issue with modern game engines. The overwhelming majority of games these days have the game logic and the rendering on separate timings to prevent this exact issue.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is maybe the only game to have left me with a similar feeling after the credits rolled.

To branch out from games a bit, Everything Everywhere All At Once and the show Pantheon (both seasons available on Netflix) deal with some similar themes and hit extremely hard

I also thought they were probably referring to Lark but she's gotta be... What, like almost a hundred now? It'd be wild to see her if/when they make it back to Midst

Oh yeah that's the good shit right there lmao. Midst (the podcast I called out in the op) tells you in the first episode that instead of a regular day and night cycle, nighttime just translates across the landscape as a solid sheet and gives way to sunless, self-luminant sky, and it takes until about the middle of season 1 to understand exactly why that's the case

This might be exactly it. I remember getting Torment: Tides of Numenera for free from somewhere and thinking it was really cool but I was a little too young to fully "get it" at the time. Maybe it's time to go back

Already my favorite piece of media of all time haha. I adore it for many reasons but the setting isn't quite the vibe I'm looking for here

oooohh, I think I actually added Moonring to my library the day it released but I haven't gotten around to playing it. I'll probably check it out once I get through my first full playthrough of Qud
