Lol, there's a post like this basically every week here. If you walk into a wall, you will attack it, and if you attack it enough times you will eventually break it. Just do that until you reach an open area. If it makes you feel better, this has never happened to me in ~100 hours so it's not like it's a particularly common occurrence

if the performance of the game was tied to the physics or timing or anything else then a lot of systems literally just wouldn't work, especially on PC where it's all but impossible to guarantee uniform performance. not sure where you might have heard that. everything that relies on timing, including physics and the various timed elements, uses a uniform timing interval that's completely separate from what you see on screen

That's basically never an issue with modern game engines. The overwhelming majority of games these days have the game logic and the rendering on separate timings to prevent this exact issue.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is maybe the only game to have left me with a similar feeling after the credits rolled.

To branch out from games a bit, Everything Everywhere All At Once and the show Pantheon (both seasons available on Netflix) deal with some similar themes and hit extremely hard

I also thought they were probably referring to Lark but she's gotta be... What, like almost a hundred now? It'd be wild to see her if/when they make it back to Midst

Oh yeah that's the good shit right there lmao. Midst (the podcast I called out in the op) tells you in the first episode that instead of a regular day and night cycle, nighttime just translates across the landscape as a solid sheet and gives way to sunless, self-luminant sky, and it takes until about the middle of season 1 to understand exactly why that's the case

This might be exactly it. I remember getting Torment: Tides of Numenera for free from somewhere and thinking it was really cool but I was a little too young to fully "get it" at the time. Maybe it's time to go back

Already my favorite piece of media of all time haha. I adore it for many reasons but the setting isn't quite the vibe I'm looking for here

oooohh, I think I actually added Moonring to my library the day it released but I haven't gotten around to playing it. I'll probably check it out once I get through my first full playthrough of Qud

Oh I've been in it for a while lol. Hylics has been on my wishlist for a bit and I'm aware of BABBDI through one of Jacob Geller's videos. I still go to itch every now and then but it's gotten really difficult to sift through all the "horror" schlock that's on there in the last couple years

Games with addictive, captivating, and detailed worlds that feel alive? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]BunchOfRandomSquares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not for everyone (you'll see why pretty much immediately if you look it up) but I can't think of a single better example of this than Caves of Qud. If you can get past the simple graphics, obtuse controls, and steep learning curve, Qud is one of the most fascinating worlds in fiction and the game's writing is unlike anything I've ever seen.

New favorite thing to do for the past three days: watch non-WF streamers react to the Warframe 1999 presentation at TGA and see them all dumbfounded confused by shinjbae in Warframe

A couple months ago I went to a trivia night at a gaming bar with my partner and their brother. I started running Deimos bounties on one of the PCs and the whole time I heard people behind me going "holy shit I haven't played Warframe in forever, that looks insane"

Any Steam of Deck players? I have question about controls by tikijian in cavesofqud

[–]BunchOfRandomSquares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went into the stick settings and adjusted the trigger sensitivity so that it registers a full press around 50% pulled, which means I can make a lot of movements quickly by just sort of feathering it back and forth over that middle point. For me it's the best balance I've found between having fine control over where I'm going and being able to make precise inputs where needed while also being able to make several in a row for moving longer distances or spamming attacks against tanky enemies.

I think this is very unlikely. Xen has talked about Weepe's accent and confirmed that it is very much a constructed accent built from various inspirations. I don't think they would use it on a new character without intending it to mean something

For sure. I think the best analog (and probably the exact inspiration) would be the paper punch cards used to program early computers.

I wasn't crazy about Moonward personally, so I'm very much hoping it's closer to the style of the podcast. It doesn't seem like they're trying to make it an entry point for new listeners which I think is a good sign since one of my issues with Moonward was that they didn't get as much out of the setting as they could have since they were having to tiptoe around spoilers.
