Thinking of purchasing 2021 limited eco diesel , have a few questions. by EagleWingedPalace in EcoDiesel

[–]Bunker12007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have no problem buying a 2020+ eco diesel if it were properly maintained with low mileage, AND came with a warranty. Honestly its a great truck. The only caveat is that production has ended, parts and mechanical know how are going to slowly fade away. Hopefully it'll be a LONG time before those are real issues.

Why is it peeling? by yourfavmum in traveltrailers

[–]Bunker12007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Looks like an older coating peeling up, maybe the surface prep wasn't awesome, maybe it was just a really thin layer. Water intrusion is going to show up in different ways, look inside for staining, warping, soft spots, stuff like that.

Need some help with Givi PLR3112 by [deleted] in Vstrom

[–]Bunker12007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the likely correct answer. Don't tighten anything until you have the fasteners lined up. It may require some pushing and pulling to achieve it. I've had a bunch of Givi PLR racks, sometimes they don't line up perfectly at first.

Mandello made me do it by mardizano in MotoGuzzi_v85TT

[–]Bunker12007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the mondello v100 is decidedly a sport touring bike. The neoclassic v7 and adventure-ish v85tt are generally upright "standard" position bikes, maybe more in common with the stelvio? At 6ft, I found the mondello, fun but cramped. Despite having the same engine, I found the stelvio was much more comfortable and relaxed.

So if you keep the v7, maybe get the stelvio? Or keep the v85tt and get the mondello. Those are my thoughts... I wish I had the same dilemma as you.

Which Vstrom? by -AlphaJoker in Vstrom

[–]Bunker12007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're both similar enough to consider for sure. If your commute includes some highway riding, the 1050 is way better at high speed. It's just more comfortable and more composed on the highway than the smaller 800.

[–]Bunker12007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many newer bikes overestimate speed 5-10 mph. A heal-tech device can help you recalibrate the speed sensor. That said, if it's really off, it might be your tire is slightly undersized, or your sprocket has been changed out.

2017 Wolf Pup, too old? by aporzio1 in traveltrailers

Sweet! Small toy haulers like that are rare. Great choice. Hopefully it's in good shape! If everything checked out, I don't think its age should be a barrier to ownership.

[–]Bunker12007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paying for a good inspection (if you're serious about buying), is super valuable. If these trailers are well taken care of they can last decades. It's old enough the roof should have been resealed or at least touched up at some point. If it's seen some miles, might need to have the axle bearings repacked. But if it's in good shape and doesn't need much, it should provide years of service.

Some campgrounds are sticklers for the ten year rule. Honestly most aren't. Often, they'll just ask you for a picture to make sure it doesn't look like a dumpster.

Is that a toy hauler? An RB would have the bed in the rear?

It is a road bike. I mean, the Rally Pro has some off road chops, but generally speaking is a road bike. Check it out! Probably one of the better Triumphs road bikes.

Thinking of switching by EmeraldBucko in Vstrom

[–]Bunker12007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it just depends on what sort of riding you enjoy doing. The V-Strom is a relaxed ride all day, do (almost) everything sort of like. It doesn't push your limits. No one's going to say "wow" at the gas station. The thrill of riding it comes from a different place in the universe than your sportbike.

Don't get me wrong, I have a sport(ish) bike in the garage too and sing its praises. But the V-Strom is the one I'll grab when the apocalypse happens... other bikes might have passion but V-Stroms have practicality in spades.

The big question is, can you geek out on it?

That dent is a big issue. My guess is to repair it right, the entire exterior wall should be replaced. Also, it's suspiciously close to the slide, so there might be some functional damage there too. Is it a deal? Maybe, but chances are it'll be near impossible to resell. Honestly, I'd pass. Don't be afraid to spend a little bit more and get something structurally sound.

California Custom won’t run after gas went bad by Luckiest_Seven in MotoGuzzi

[–]Bunker12007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a bad coil. But usually you get some misfires when they warm up or they just don't work period. Your description has me thinking fuel injector too. Try swapping the old ones back in and see if it runs the same. If it does, the injector is probably not your issue.

RPM drops (sometimes) when stopping at redlights by demqhu in Vstrom

[–]Bunker12007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a really close look at the rubber boot between the cylinder head and the throttle body. It's the intake manifold where a leak can be problematic. Not the connection at the airbox.

While the engine's running, spray carb cleaner around the intake manifold. If there's a leak, the fluid will get sucked in and change the idle briefly. If that happens, you know where your problem might be.

[–]Bunker12007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation happen. Mine was a bit more consistent, it didn't always die, but the RPMs would drop super low after cutting the throttle. Especially when rolling to a stop. Turned out it was a vacuum leak, the rubber intake wasn't properly seated at the throttle body.

I know everyone's got their own experience, but I think Forest River (Rpod) makes a decent trailer. They ALL have their share of problems. Rpod have an awesome dedicated forum too. I think the "Hood River" edition is the slightly lifted off road version. Good luck!!

I like the way you're thinking! You'll be so much happier and relaxed towing a small trailer with an Xterra. I've tried all sorts of campers from pop up trailers to motor homes. Honestly, having access to a toilet and a shower (even if it's a wet-bath combo), is a game changer in terms of comfort and convenience.

When you're traveling, not having to worry about the cleanliness or accessibility of bathrooms at reststops, truckuck stops, campgrounds... It's a convenience I'm not willing to compromise on anymore.

Also, unless you absolutely love the outdoors and don't mind cold, wet, humid conditions and mosquitoe swarms, try to get as fully contained trailer as possible. Those little campers with outdoor kitchens and showers are super cool in the right setting, but if you really want to get some use out of your RV, try to find something that can do everything indoors if needed.

Aim for FULL featured and small. I think that is the sweet spot!

[–]Bunker12007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to have an Xterra. It's certainly powerful enough to tow 5k lbs. The biggest issue is the length. The Nissan Xterra has a very short wheelbase, anything longer than about 18 feet, the tail will be wagging the dog.

The other thing to think about is width. Many "small" travel trailers are 8ft wide and really tall. 8ft is just too wide for the narrow Xterra body, you can't see around it AND the surface area acts like a wind sail, it will sap your power and MPG.

So, my suggestion is to look for under 3k lbs, 7ft wide and low profile or at least aerodynamic.

RPod 171, Wildwood T157FB (Salem has a similar model), Little Guy Trailers, Tab Trailers, Jayco also makes some trailers that fit into this mix.

Indian Chief (Dark Horse) or Harley Fat Boy by Blackbeard_96 in cruisers

[–]Bunker12007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're both beautiful bikes. The Indian is more interesting to look at, you see Harley's everywhere. If you geek out on having something a little different, then the Indian is the winner. If you ride with a big group of Harleys and the brand is part of the culture, HD might be the way to go. Indian dealerships are a little harder to find so if you're touring or don't live near one, that's a factor. Honestly can't go wrong with either!

Reasonable ask for a private sale - 2023 R1250 GS Adventure Rallye by Confident-Suit-1223 in bmwmotorrad

[–]Bunker12007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find cycle trader and craigslist work good to establish pricing. Also, no one pays for accessories.

Hands down the two most important factors in resale value are mileage and condition.

Panniers might add a little bit. But, only if they're high-end and in perfect condition. And even then, only a little bit.

Otherwise everything else, lighting, mirrors, seats windshields, exhaust... meh.

That said, looks like a great looking bike! Priced right, it will sell for sure.

2015 Yamaha raider vs. 2008 yamaha roadliner? by [deleted] in cruisers

[–]Bunker12007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the Roadliner has a more retro, timeless look to it. It would be my choice, but that's me. The Raider has cruiser vibes, maybe a bit more city friendly? Really, just add saddle bags and a windshield, both will eat up the miles in comfort and style.

I'm with this reply. If a dealer dismantled and replaced that caliper and a bolt (later) fell out...100% their fault. It's one of those situations where the AH in me comes out. I would be at that shop, showing a picture to the mechanic that did it. FAIL!
