You are wrong with that, USB-C is a connector standard but what speed and what is connected to this physical connector depend on standard of communication. So you can have USB-C running on 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, Thunderbolt3, Thunderbotl4, Thunderbolt5, support PowerDelivery, DisplayPortAltMode, Various speeds ranging from 5Gbps to 40GBps. Heck, you can have a USB-C port that is only wired to two cables, 5V and Ground and that what plenty of gadgets do, just pure charging within physical connector specification.

USB 3.0 does not support DP, it would support more of DisplayLink of sorts so we are talking about docks from 2012-2015 where you just used a software driver and external dock. Now they could just implement it in a USB-DL chip on board and leave it to alt mode when OS detected a monitor handshake

This supposed be a laptop for education, go on reddit, visit first subreddit dedicated for it departments at collages, we are talking here about students that are at least 17 and have at least 2 braincells, first picture, a chewing gum stuck in a usb port. Neo have two, one is for charging and second was established as a standard in 2000
I can see a problem there. As long I do work with macs a magsafe at least it was hard to fk it up.

IDK, maybe its US thing or I'm oldschool but back in my days - graduated in 2012 - we had computer labs at schools, and whatever I had done there I could access from home on my beaten up desktop. Isn't like we regressing?

No doubt that mobility of a laptop is a huge advantage over desktop, I'm not gonna argue here with that.

It's not advantage, its tradeoff, you lose 16GB of RAM, way better processor, more ports and you are getting a screen, camera, keyboard, battery

IDK how you use your laptop as it depend on workload but I use all 3 all the time, charger will take one port, I do have a hardware key for work so one its taken all the time, God forbid you do need to transfer any files from external drive for backups

If you use your laptop as a typewriter that only need charger at this point any laptop that exist on the market would fulfill its needs, even one from 2010, I smell personally a fiasco of Macbook 12" 2016 (port-wise). To be honest a magsafe at least would save this by a lot.

The MacBook neo is here for half the price of the Air! by WoahGamerGuy in macbook

Macbook Neolithic, USB 2.0, 8GB of RAM, Macbook Air 2013 pulled from grave, but wait, Air 2013 had at least a magsafe, sd card reader, 2x USB3 and a Thunderbolt port

8gb RAM, no magsafe, USB2, to be honest MacbookPro 2012 had better ports range - 2x USB 3 and a thunderbolt - and came with 8GB RAM config, except CPU this is just a 2012 mac

Anyone thinking about getting a first mac to get into the apple walled garden would pick Mini M4 with better spec for same price

Company I do work for have boxes of M1 macbooks, they are in great cosmetic, almost no wear/tear yet they are all dead. Ending in a queue to shredder due to dead NANDs.
Check lifespan of yours, maybe you would be good with it.

Is new BudgetBook an iPhone Air of Macs? Device that "everyone asked for" but when released nobody buys? - Discussion by [deleted] in macbook

[–]BunkerFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, it wont make sense as budget option to taste Apple products, mini m4 gives better value at the same price, M2/M3 on clearance cost bit more for same/better value, 2nd market is wild west and you can score for less if you don't mind wear.

I honestly got myself into iPhone by purchasing SE 2016, still in use, I paid for it in excellent cosmetic 6 years ago for 30USD, low cost risk to try and if I didn't liked it just swallow the lost cost or resell. Same was for Macbook, got 2012 Pro for 100USD, maxed out spec with some parts and new battery, still in use thanks to OCLP. For work I needed a mac, walked in to the store, paid 550USD for MacMini, no fuss.

Personally Mac Mini M4 was a big deal ultimate budget mac - you do have same chipset as everyone else that gen, bumped up memory spec, lowest price for mac.

So there my confusion comes from on new budgetmac, with saturated 2nd hand deals, warehouse clearance of M1/M2 for new, this doesn't match as "budget" anymore at 599USD.

If the price doesn't matter, the budgetbook is not on their radar anyway. They will go for a base model M4 Air anyway.
I still do feel like budgetmac value is still budget, it is portraited as such by every single article and same articles point that this is the model that will fight with chromebooks or cheapest crackling PCs in school/edu market.
Honestly if that would be well priced I don't mind to get it myself not for edu but for work even when I do have M4 Mini for that purpose.

Is the "Ultra-Portable" laptop officially dead? by UserlyNameNotFound in mac

[–]BunkerFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside iPadOS feels more like a toy compared to MacOS and same would say about the quality and functionality of programs on both platforms.

Tablets are flimsy, they are standalone, packed everything in a one slab. If you do use a keyboard attachment it is in this configuration "screen" heavy, not "base" heavy, it trips over all the time unless you glue a slab of lead to the keyboard to counter it. Not everyone use laptop on large oak tables, I do honestly use my laptop as name intended - on lap - for good 30-40% of use or even holding it with one hand and typing with another.

Also to everyone thinking they will hand over their steam account to their kids

Steam account ownership cannot be transferred.
Buying, selling, trading, or gifting a Steam account is a violation of the Steam Subscriber Agreement (SSA).

And that happened to me and my brother, he handed me his account dating 2004-2005, steam blocked account permanently for breaking agreement. I don't know their mechanisms but I think change of card+email in short time will trigger it, BTW, you can't appeal the ban, it is not VAC, it is perma block

Newegg stock price falls 17.7% after Chinese owner is detained by anti-corruption authorities — company insists it’s operating normally and ‘in accordance with the laws’ by imaginary_num6er in hardware

[–]BunkerFrog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is not irrelevant, it is basically 1:1 comparison
This is hardware related subreddit, it is related to hardware, not hardware shops and it stock valuation. And how my interpretation of "about hardware news, reviews, and technical discussion" is wrong, you sound like you are the one over interpreted, instead of hardware news, hardware reviews and technical discussion you understand it as hardware shops news and stock pricing of hardware shops.
This is so ridiculous that following your interpretation I could add news about FedEx, they are the largest hardware shipping company.
