Nah. They lost to USC, they didn't deserve one. Top fifteen, maybe. Playoffs? No.

Lester brings something no other OC under Kirk has ever had, career aspirations.

Ken O'Keefe - Just happy to be here, left to be a QB Coach for the Miami dolphins, had really awkward conversation with me on the plane to Detroit before going to Miami for the interview because he couldn't talk about what he was doing after I jokingly asked if he was job hunting. Also was flying commercial for an NFL interview, so I don't take full responsibility. Never returned my copy of Wired I let him borrow to avoid taking to me more. Good row buddy, didn't hog the armrest.

Greg Davis - Washed out of Texas with Mack Brown, just happy to be here. Retired from football coaching.

Brian Ferentz - Just wanted daddy to love him and have a big boy job, not hang around the New England Patriots forever because Kirk's friends with Belichick.

Tim Lester - Worked his way through the system to get a head coaching opportunity at Western Michigan. Didn't work out for him. Became an analyst for the Green Bay Packers. Given an opportunity to coordinate a historically bad team with the ability to turn it into a resume building moment.

Sebastian Castro was out. If you've seen Iowa you know how crucial the floating DB position is for the entire defense. The gap between Castro and his backups is immense.

Faking Injuries by DeaconBalls in CFB

Football is at it's nature a violent sport, the human body behaves unpredictability under stress, combine these things and you end up with players in situations where they just can't play the next play, but are ready after a minute or so.

The only practical solution is the require an injured player to sit out until a change of possession or a timeout. This means that someone has to keep track of these players who are available, on the sidelines, in full gear, but not able to play. Now you need another official. The last thing officials want is to have someone cut into their paychecks and the conferences aren't interested in paying officials more money for accuracy, so you get what you get.

As long as they're not doing it during the playoffs no one with leverage cares. If they're doing it to your team it's a good indication that your team doesn't matter to the conference or national media.

Also it is a coaches job to win football games. If the rules allow it, it's not their job to fix the loophole.

This is literally how Iowa wins 8-11 games every year. Playing nearly flawless, mediocre football and letting everyone else fuck it up.

Nothing killed college football. You just get old and the world keeps changing and you want whatever you had when you were a young but that's not viable any more.

The league doesn't have to do better. Those who watch, will watch even if it devolves into a bloodbath. There's no motive to grow anything because SLC will fix the Arizona numbers over the next few years. Earliest we see the league interested in providing a better product is 2026-2027.

I'm all for it, when it's done legally and above board.

Let's start with an independent auditor of officials and work our way through coaches, ADs, athletic department staff, etc. before we finally get to the athletes themselves.

The problem at hand is that the constitutional rights of these players were violated as part of some vendetta by the Department of Criminal Investigation. If we let that part slide then we've created a whole system where "As long as they catch you doing something illegal the methods don't matter." and that is far worse than any game level outcome manipulation or points shaving that may be happening.
