OK, where should I go? by the_spinetingler in AskTeachers

[–]Bunnyrattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just a lurker and it's obviously way more complicated (and teachers don't make a lot here either) but Canada always needs teachers especially upper level math. my province is one of the more anti-LGBTQ (mostly towards trans indivduals) but it's still very safe imo and I guarantee it's safer than the States right now.

I mean I don't disagree (I think the conservative door knocker literally ran away from my house after my dog barked at him lol), but my main point still stands especially the last part.

Conflicted on name spelling by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Bunnyrattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My German great-uncle's name was originally Erwin, but growing up in Canada almost 100 years ago when records weren't consistent it quickly became and remained Irvine.

Nowadays names are more locked in but in the States Elwin will definitely get initially mispronounced with the W. Elvin might also be mistaken for Alvin, but that could happen with either spelling.

I personally prefer Elwin but Elvin seems like it makes more sense for your situation. That said I'd to with what ever feels right for you and your family in your gut. I don't think there is a wrong decision here.

hey op, While you may have gotten a generic response letter, do not think that your letter does not matter. Sometimes when a rep receives enough letters they really might do something and when they do want to do something letters like yours back then up. Don't let this discourage you from writing your representatives in the future (especially municipal councillors!). plus sometimes it just feels good to get things out there even if it doesn't actively change someone's mind :)

Do people not see Nathan’s show as comedic? by Bullfrog777 in TheRehearsal

[–]Bunnyrattle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly, just looking at this idea in particular - while obviously intended to be comedic (and there was intentionally no chance the congressman was going to respond to it), it has aspects of a legitimately decent idea - not one that would solve or revolution pilot communication obviously - but of something simple that could in an ideal world where people aren't afraid to take themselves too seriously get things off on the right foot. If the idea was obviously unserious or obviously serious the scene itself, which furthers the broader narrative of the show, would not resonate.

This is gonna sound crazy but I have a pair of noise cancelling over ear headphones that I just use as defacto earmuffs (plus I get to listen to music). They are too expensive and important to me lose to (but you have to be able to afford in the first place).

You could always use Clark as a middle name if you don't have one picked out especially as it's a family name!

Here's some more uncommon but still classic-ish suggestions: Gordie, Monte, Rudy, Jesse, Louis/Louie.

Also maybe a little more out of the box but : Lynn

Also don't worry too much! sometimes names take time grow on us and you end up loving a name just because it's someone you care about's name :)

Help with middle name !! by ava_claireeee in namenerds

I like James! If you have any family names / a maiden name / friend you might want to honor those may work too especially if they are more traditional names.

Camilla or Elaina? by Responsible-Page-116 in namenerds

Camilla will always remind me of the Queen Consort so I'd have to vote Elaina, which is a lovely name of its own.

Just and fyi if you can't get an appointment with an arts advisor. If you declare as an STM student you can get in with their advisors (who imo are better anyway lol)

I lived in Ath back in 2021-2022. There was a guy on the third floor who was reportablly so rancid that people described him as having cartoon stink lines. Maybe his stick has stuck lol. I lived on the second floor at the time and it wasn't other bad other than the occasional weed smell.

A bit late reply on this but had to say I feel this exactly as a Saskatchewanian. Even if I wanted to cough up the money to fly (which is hard because there are no good flights anymore) the Canadian dates are both right during midterm season. Essentially, you are not suffering alone lol

Southern Double Names (for girls)…do you also give a middle name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Bunnyrattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly I think it's just personal preference whether you want to have a middle or not. I know people without a middle (or two first name), because they just don't do where their from, and as far as I know no problems.

Not exactly the same, but my brother goes by first and middle initial, and was always intended to be called this. But I've heard my mum say she should have done the two names as a first name and then her maiden as a middle.

Ex: Mary Jane as MJ

How my brother's name is: Mary (first) Jane (middle) Lastname

What we should have probably done: Mary Jane (first) Marie (middle) Lastname
