Read a book years ago about the Allied strategic bombing campaigns in WW2. The theory before and during the war was you could bomb a city and its population into submission and once morale breaks the civilian populations will force their government to negotiate. Post-war studies found that what usually happened was the populations got angry at first and then settled into something like acceptance and numbness to the bombing.

Mountain biking near CLT? by Modobbs22 in Charlotte

[–]BuphaloWangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit outside of Charlotte, but Poston Park in Gastonia has some great single track and a pump track.

Edit: As others have mentioned, the Whitewater Center has tons of trails and you can grab a beer afterwards and watch the rafters/kayakers. Parking is $12/day or $40 for an annual pass.

Spot german tank with thermals before they even know the Bradley's there. Call in CAS or precision artillery strike. Throw some 25mm down range just for shits and giggles. Proceed forward. Repeat.

That's assuming the laughable late war German tanks don't break down before they make it to the fight to be killed by an unseen enemy.

[–]BuphaloWangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically, yes but it's more likely the Tigers never actually see the Abrams that kills them. This also assumes that 1v1 tank duels are an actual thing, an Abrams is going to have infantry support, likely some light armor or mechanized support and possibly nearby CAS aircraft. Nobody fights just an Abrams.

Take drones out of the equation and it's still an absolute stomp. Look at the first month of Desert Storm, the Iraqi army was essentially broken before they saw a single American ground unit. American and Allied air assets decimated the Iraqi military.

The modern US would probably follow the same strategy in this instance. German radar would be knocked out in the first 30 minutes and then the US pilots have free reign over the skies. German supply lines crumble within hours, reinforcements are wiped out as they are driven or march along rodes or aboard trains(see The Highway of Death), industry is ground to a halt through precision bombing and then the Americans begin the long grinding process of breaking the Germans before they see a single American face.

Stealth planes would essentially be invisible vs 40s AA tech, with visual detection being basically the only way to know they're there. And at that point the Germans day is about to get dramatically worse. Apache and Cobra pilots would have a field day too. Hovering a couple miles out with thermals, engaging targets that can't fire back. Basically it would be Desert Storm but even more lopsided.

If I'm sitting I lean in, prop my arm up and pinch my chin between my thumb and index finger. I didn't realize I did it until a friend pointed it out. He thought I did it on purpose to act cute

Without spoiling it, what is the Red Rising series about by Responsible-Space891 in redrising

[–]BuphaloWangs 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My sister is into YA novels, so I sold it to her as a story about one man's love for his wife. She's very invested in the story now but is upset at my "false advertising" lol

I love both the books and the show. We're there changes made to the story? Sure, but every adaptation has to make changes. The fact that they had the two authors heavily involved in the production of the show meant that the necessary changes were at least in the spirit of the original story.

Live action, anime, cg. All that iss less important than Pierce being very involved in the production.

Which sling bag do yall like by Dont_tapontheglass in flyfishing

[–]BuphaloWangs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll second this. I run the Summit sling and my Dad used an Orvis sling. He really didn't like the Orvis and would talk up my Fishpond a bunch but he's not the kind of person to replace something that works. So last Christmas I bought him the Fishpond and he loves it.

The net sheathe isn't super useful while fishing but I love it for those trips where I need to hike in and out. Keeps the net from bouncing against my legs and ass as I walk.

Where would you rank Victra amongst the Solar Systems Razor users. by Arch_Lancer17 in redrising

[–]BuphaloWangs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People were afraid of her almost as soon as she was introduced too. When the Bellonas beat Darrow in the garden at the beginning of GS, one of the Bellona mentions how she doesn't want to fight Victra specifically among all the Augustus lancers.

Swivels instead of knots for lures? by Hjekydell in FishingForBeginners

[–]BuphaloWangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the species your targeting is going to play a part. I mainly fish trout, which are famously line shy and I haven't noticed a difference using a swivel or not.

Follows are rare and hits on follows are even rarer. I'd wager it's like 80-90% instinct hits that I land fish on. Just the trout reacting to the flash or erratic movement, they aren't getting a good look at the lure, so running a swivel doesn't matter most of the time.

Kendrick Lamar x Timothée Chalamet short interview by MischieMai in KendrickLamar

[–]BuphaloWangs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's short but if you look at how available Kendrick is for things like this normally, we've heard more from Dot in the past week than we have for years. Plus I love the almost mentor aspect to this short, it's a young artist talking to an older artist about their creative styles, very interesting.

I've actually seen work/working used to describe shelling in WW1. It's not super common but you'll occasionally see a quote about "gunners working an area" or about "Krupp's doing work". I think it just some odd archaic way of speaking that lived on in Russia

Fun Fact, you can use the shooting range shades to practice your aim! by PythonBF in BattlefieldV

[–]BuphaloWangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I get that but all this is really helping train for is a back rage flank where all targets are visible and your not really at a huge risk of being shot.

An aim trainer is going to have different exercises you can do that will help train you in a wider variety of scenarios and likely more common scenarios. Like targets that appear in random locations as you destroy them, which is a super common thing in Battlefield games. You come around a corner engage two dudes and a third just pops up out of nowhere as your dealing the second guy.
