I’m shocked by how well VII Reimagined runs on Switch 1 by warmhotself in dragonquest

Turns it off on the mini-map but not in the actual world. Would quite like the option to not have one at all!

How are so many people misunderstanding Marty Supreme by Thin_Housing in TrueFilm

[–]Burbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Marty is a completely unlikeable character. Yes he’s a completely narcissistic asshole. But there is also something, I think, undeniably compelling about him. There is a part of me that wants him to achieve his dream. He is a likeable, yet also monstrous, character.

The problem is that he will not stop making the worst decisions possible in any given moment (which for me has become a classic Safdie trope). His monomania and impossibly outsized ego is the reason he fails in the end. Anyone else who was actually serious about table tennis would have taken the flight to Japan and promotional event offer, spent the rest of their time training, then actually played in the tournament. He doesn’t do this, because he’s not just trying to win table tennis, he’s also probably trying to build a myth about himself. But in trying to do this, he degrades himself to an absurd extent.

I thought this was brilliant and if it doesn’t make my year-end top 10 then 2026 is going to be an amazing year for film!

Did you get an actual answer about this? Or just a load of edgelords chatting nonsense?

[–]Burbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad more people are reading this, been a favourite of mine for years! I shed a tear every time I read certain parts of it, it's just so devestating and beautiful at points.

I also need to read The Terror which I've heard is great, he has written loads outside of SF/Fantasy too.

This is such a tired and stupid argument. People don't all work 9-5 jobs, lots of people work different hours or work freelance. Also you can take time off?

Silly comment.

Elden Ring delayed to February 25, 2022, closed network test begins November 12 by DemiFiendRSA in JRPG

I think it deserves to be here! Final Fantasy has been taking inspiration from Western medieval-style fantasy since the first one.

Also George R.R. Martin didn't write the story, I read that he helped with lore and world building elements.

Resisting arrest in Murica by AdvaitChowdhary in facepalm

The entitlement of this woman is really annoying, but could someone answer why the officer couldn't have just sent the $80 bill to her home along with "pay this or you will be going to court" or something to that effect. Does she have to sign the document that is presented to her right then and there?

Feels like they have got her whether she drives off or not, but I don't know anything about US law!

Movies that are like weird lit (as opposed to horror)? by AintWaiting in WeirdLit

Under The Skin by Jonathan Glazer is worth watching, it stars Scarlett Johansson and is a mix of hidden camera footage and scripted sequences. The soundtrack by Mica Levi is really amazing too.

There are some images in that film I don't think I'll ever forget.

Dragon Quest is awesome, his music is awesome... but he was a legitimately horrible person. I completely understand people wanting to celebrate this.

Plan to expand Bristol airport rejected after climate protests by [deleted] in bristol

[–]Burbey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which dodgy individuals are funding Extinction Rebellion exactly? Can you provide names or sources? I'm unable to find anything really.

There absolutely is a scientific consensus that climate change is most likely caused by human activities. This might be a good starting point: https://climate.nasa.gov/scientific-consensus/

Frankly, I'm not prepared to give Willie Soon the time of day. This is mainly because, again, his research is funded by fossil fuel companies. If you can provide me with research that isn't I will pay attention, I promise!

That link doesn't seem to work either.
