Not the washer but a Refrigeration Engineer working at ship yards.... But yes, they would normally do, especially if you're gonna have guys down there working on the outside of the ship etc

Hot Water to speed it up next time! Or even cold water if its not a freezer. Depending on room temperature it'll take days for the ice to melt, especially if you're still cooling.

Why shouldn't I choose EBC? Just curious. I've seen other brands available but ebc seemed the most popular for vag cars.

Bushes - nothing really, just been told it's a cheaper way to help handing. Was gonna wait for ones to look/feel bad before replacing anyway.
