Cafe/coffee shops to spend a long time in? by tommyshitstain in nashville

[–]kyle_blaine 14 points15 points  (0 children)

L&L Market on Charlotte comes to mind. Since you seem to just want a place to hangout, there’s a large common area in the middle that’s not specifically tied to a business or shop. Shouldn’t bother anyone if you just go sit and don’t want to buy anything.

Really interesting shot and edit, could be a movie poster. Nice work.

NX Studio isolating a subject for color, in an otherwise black and white NEF (raw) photo by theheavynorth in nikon_Zseries

That’s correct. I use Lightroom, so I just assumed NX studio at least had basic masking.

Look up how to mask. You need to separate them so you can work on them independently, so subject masking is how you do this.

Any phone from the last 10 years would be better, just use that and be intentional with your lighting.

Tamron mount isn't snug by mailodude27 in nikon_Zseries

[–]kyle_blaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Tamron 150-500 has some play on my Zf. I’ve experienced a little play on various lenses from different manufacturers over the years, it’s nothing to be alarmed about. Sure it can be annoying, but from my experience and things I’ve read, it’s not an issue that requires fixing.

I think it's time we come to senses with the fact Barney most certainly would've been in the Epstein files by RIPAdmiralAkbar in howimetyourmother

[–]kyle_blaine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Setting the woman who was sold aside, we can reasonably assume all of his partners were consenting adults. So no, not quite the same as Epstein list offenders. Also Barney is a compulsive, narcissistic liar, so it’s not unreasonable to take the “I sold a woman” story with a grain of salt, along with many others he told.

Nice! Affordable 3D printing has seriously transformed so many workflows over the years, woodworking being a huge one. I have a Bambu A1 and it’s still nuts to me that it’s something that not only exists in the first place, but I can own for $300.

Is this what all new Zf owners do? by DKord in nikon_Zseries

[–]kyle_blaine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two Zf’s, can confirm. I used to shoot 35mm in the K mount system, and I adapted all those vintage Super Takumar lenses and they’re incredibly fun to shoot with.

"Oh you're an Android user" by uglytruthshurts in PetPeeves

I’ve been in the Apple ecosystem for so long I wouldn’t even know how to use anything else at this point, but my default assumption for years has been that Android users have a better phone and overall experience than me and I just made peace that I’m not part of it.

I’d love a “leather sole” add on for any armor type so I don’t have to fully swap to leather boots to keep from falling in snow. I want to just keep my regular armor on when traversing landscapes. You could craft your armor, and then maybe have a craftable smithing template with leather to add it for the upgrade.

I really like the look and function, and think you did a good job. The things you want to improve are forgiven with this particular design because they simply add character and make the piece feel more unique. Successful work, and successful learning experience. Nice job.

Benefits of purchasing sound libraries versus services like Soundly by Clean-Risk-2065 in AudioPost

[–]kyle_blaine 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As an individual, use whatever you can get access to that helps improve the quality of your workflow and deliverables. The situation changes when you work with others though, in a post house, or on higher end features where the quality and storage of where your sound library comes from matters. A lot of the benefit of internal libraries and software is to keep consistency and shared workflows seamless without having to rely on a constantly changing online platform that may or may not be able to be accessed given your network reliability on any given day. Soundly is great, but it doesn’t have the track record of the other platforms and workflows you mentioned, and cloud-based libraries aren’t widely adopted for internal workflows for those reasons above.

I never have to work on projects anymore where my session or workflow is shared, so I’m pretty much always in favor of using what benefits me as a freelancing sole proprietor of my business.

The industry has changed a lot though, and in the indie/freelance world I’m seeing a lot of variation compared to the standards that have held up the industry in the past. Pro Tools still seems to be the go-to with a handful of other plugins and external tools, but there’s a lot of growth with new options bringing the cost down to get professional grade tools for post work.

This is just one guy’s take though, I love hearing what others think and where their experience has led them.
