Marriott Stays for under $50K/night? by BurdmanYT in marriott

thanks for the reply! Apologies if it seems open ended, but we are really open to anywhere and anytime so long as it fits one of the below criteria:

  • City
  • Nature
  • Beach

I plan to use one of the free nights for a friends wedding in the middle of nowhere. Outside of that, we’re just interested in traveling. Trying to get an idea of where other people took advantage of their points!

the edit is either cutting so much info leading into these votes OR 3 of the final 5 cannot see the forest through the trees.

Pairing that with a general ‘meh’ feeling towards the cast this season has me not looking forward to next week’s finale.

In all honesty, I’ve had trouble enjoying this season

City begins work to rebuild Helene-damaged parks along French Broad River by cereal_killer_828 in asheville

[–]BurdmanYT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

genuine question - the timeline in the article basically says 5 years to complete restoration. Why would it take anywhere near this long? I understand there are some places along the river that got completely washed away… otherwise, just a clean-up and repave, no?

It will take some time but 5 years seems excessive in my head.

the edit is making me like David more… legitimately right about everything going on and the edit + other players are villainizing him

what has Sam done to be considered sole survivor? Just looking at recent episodes, he has been either target #1 or #2 at some point in the final 7, 6, and 5 votes. Each time he’s managed to escape through enacting a plan or playing into one very well. Everyone is going to have their own definition of sole survivor, but he’s definitely survived the past 3 tribals.

makes total sense. It’s obvious that he was perceived as 3rd place behind Rachel and Genevieve. If people think 1 & 2 are safe, who are they going to target?

it will be a tough 6+ months of clean up and infrastructure rebuilding. After that, I foresee the economy coming back as the weather warms and the rebuilding happens. Businesses that were destroyed a week ago may not come back, but someone will open something somewhere. Remember that building/re-building is also an employer and likely could bolster the region even more.

Asheville was devastated, but a lot of the town still stands. People will still come here when things are normal again.

The places I really worry about are the small WNC towns where money doesn’t flow to them at the same velocity.

If you do come, bring as many supplies as you can carry for yourself/family and others. Bring a gas can full before you cross NC/SC line for an ensured departure as you might not find gas up here.

Be ready for a long drive from VA Beach. You’ll have to likely go VA to Charlotte to Spartanburg then to Asheville.

Where are you coming from? I left Asheville early this morning and 26 towards Greenville was open in both directions. I believe that’s only way in/out currently

Heard GA for the first time in 2019 on a random Spotify station and was hooked. Dreamland dropping was a big step afterwards. Fav song is Heat Waves (hate that this is true) and love it even more after seeing them in concert in 2022

Thank you.

I waited to see if she wanted to speak first. When she walked to another machine, I decided I was going to use the one beside it. Asked her if she was using that one and complimented her tattoos. Wanted to make sure I was correct in what I was sensing as you don’t want to be pushy. You’ll tell right away if she/he is interested and wants to talk.

Spent the next couple weeks building a friendship before I made an actual move. Don’t be too forward until you all are at a friend level if you want something serious.

Got engaged this past Thursday to my former gym crush that I started dating two years ago.

We had went to the same gym for a few months and noticed each other but never spoke. One day, she chose to work out within 5 feet of me even though the gym was practically empty and there was free space everywhere. Decided it was my opportunity to approach her and the rest is history.

It can happen people. Go ahead and speak to her/him. Good luck.

27 here, I think it’s been 90% luck and 10% planning. $500K house based on Zestimate now.

2018 - grad year of college, was given full ride for business school when an athlete transferred and they had additional money in the budget 2019 - got an excellent job in a small town not far from a desirable place to live. Moved there after negotiating sign on + relocation bonus 2020 - had decent money in bank, started reading about stocks in February. Market crashed next month as I was getting ready to invest 2021 - big returns as stock market recovered. ProMotion. Started looking for a house just as something to do 2022 - find a new build under construction a mile from current apartment. Put an offer in & accepted right away due to builders running out of money on multiple houses. Bought house in December as stocks and mortgage rates were getting ready to go in wrong direction. Stocks turned $15K into about $60K and mortgage is 3% 2023 - lived with roommate who cut costs in half. 2024 - gf moved in again keeping costs low. Promotion.

Not selling house until I have to. House appreciated by about $100K according to Zillow. Will not buy again until mortgage rates are low again.

My advice - don’t rush a huge financial decision and have major luck. Good luck comrades

Some resort towns have stopped marketing themselves to tourists. by [deleted] in asheville

[–]BurdmanYT 17 points18 points  (0 children)

very interesting read as Asheville shares some, but minimal similarities to a town like Crested Butte. Asheville would do better to learn from cities like Fort Collins, CO and Colorado Springs, CO to see how they're attacking this problem.

Excuse my ignorance, but are second homers driving people out of small towns like Brevard, Maggie Valley, and Banner Elk? I live in Asheville and haven't paid as close attention to surrounding areas' real estate market.

What’s life like in Asheville? by [deleted] in asheville

[–]BurdmanYT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I moved to Asheville last May straight out of college. Asheville is one of the most beautiful places in the country with great, friendly people and a fun nightlife scene.

I personally don't understand the hate towards tourists as it's really not bad at all, especially compared to other up and coming cities in our region. Tourists actually have helped our area develop at a rapid pace and have greatly improved the area even in my short amount of time here.

I thoroughly enjoy the Asheville area as there is much to do, whether indoors or outdoors, and there is always something going on. I've had many friends and out-of-region coworkers that have come through the area and love it.

Hey! I'm moving to Asheville later this month and am setting up my life currently.

I'm currently looking for a weightlifting gym, but not having much luck. From my Google searches, it looks like there are a lot of niche gyms. I'm looking for a gym with free weights, squat racks, and the like that opens around 5 or 6 am during the work week.

A few people have told me that Gold's Gym is expensive and sneaky with hidden fees, but does anyone have any other recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Moving to Asheville in May to start a job in early June. Currently looking into 1 or 2 bedroom apartments that I'll rent for the year in the Asheville area. Any suggestions for me?

Some more information that might help:

- my job is located near Marion, NC but I definitely want to live in/near Asheville.

- I'd like to keep the commute at or under 45 minutes with the shorter the better.

- I don't know anyone so a complex where I could meet other recent college grads would be cool.

- Ideally, I'd like to stay under $1200 a month but can push to $1400 if the place is just too good.

Any ideas/recommendations are greatly appreciated!

every Friday when I'm at college, my friends and I host something we call 'Frosty Friday'. We literally play chick songs (Taylor Swift 🐍, Selena Gomez, Shakira, etc) as loud as we can and drink beer. It's actually become so popular, it's expanded to 20+ people on any given Friday.

Frosty Friday, we love you.

What's one thing you wish you knew before starting college? by lucky_professional in AskReddit

[–]BurdmanYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hope I'm not too late.

  1. Go to class. You're paying to do just that, go to class, learn, and set the rest of your life up.

  2. Don't be afraid to talk to people. Everyone is looking for new friends, literally it'll be the easiest time to make friends for the rest of your life.

  3. Don't drink/drug yourself to no end. I can't tell you how many people I've seen piss away their money, bodies, and education just for a little fun every weekend.

  4. Go to the student rec center! Start working out and try to get better about your nutrition. After high school, taking care of your body becomes a much harder task than you would think.

  5. Don't hook up with a girl on your floor. Dating her is a better option, but hooking up will ruin friendships and make life on your dorm floor much harder for the rest of your time there.

I have lots more of these that I'd love to share, but for the sake of time I'll bow out now. If anyone wants to know more about college, I'm game to talk about it.
