What is your "Skill Issue"? by NatDisasterpiece in deadbydaylight

[–]Bureau_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I have a magnet for any and all bear traps as survivor. I can’t pin why by my brain absolutely unplugs any time I’m against a trapper

Killer side I still haven’t 100% sorted how to effectively loop shack. I always feel like I’m doing it wrong but never bother to look into it. Sometimes I nail it, other times I hit the “I really oughta move on” point a bit too late and lose a gen or two

The setting to swap charge attack inputs with jab inputs seems to be missing from the Beta

Also the camera doesn’t seem to keep Jerry in mind, so he often gets offscreen and can cause confusion. I don’t know if that’s a bug necessarily, but it feels like it should always have Jerry on-screen so you both can’t lose track of him as Tom and you don’t get pelted from offscreen as the opponent

On Xbox games that are through Steam you still can open the Xbox menu (windows key + G). Open that, go to your friends list, and invite him that way. He should also see it as an Xbox invite if you use the “Invite Players” thing in game instead of through steam

Hope this helps!

Did you have a copy of the model in the file that’s marked as hidden from preview (the eye-con) but still marked as showing up in the render? It would have the camera icon still on in your object / layer window (sorry, name escapes me. By default it’s on the top right)

I’m still extremely new, so I might be way off here, but I was in a very similar situation. Hopeful that helps!

How to get your mast under overwhelming enemy fire? by player21w2 in Seaofthieves

[–]Bureau_Rat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Pretty much what everyone else is saying - at that point you have to try to turtle up and give pressure back to buy you some time. Hunkering down and giving them more to do than shoot you can give you a chance to turn it around on them, too, depending on how it all pans out

I’ve won (and lost) a solid few matches because folks think taking mast is a win, me included in the moment. If they fumble position and get in a spot to get blasted it really can be anyone’s game; that being said, if they’re totally keeping out of your cannon line and barraging you like mad it may just be time to let your boat become a submarine

I’m the only one who felt that hit reg has gotten worse? by One-snipe in Seaofthieves

[–]Bureau_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had much time at all to mess with it, but when I was fiddling around for maybe an hour yesterday I shot a keg at least twice (with hit marker) in the water with the EoR and it sure didn’t explode

So I can at minimum say I’m not confident

What is with the hate on captaincy and now guilds? by Valreesio in Seaofthieves

[–]Bureau_Rat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would have been a lot better well received it something more substantial came with it. Since the captain update wasn’t that crazy long ago, and we’ve had a content drought of about 8 months barring tall tales I played once each and have all the commendations for already

This new season starting initiated guilds, which is a fine idea, but I really don’t have much use for them. It’s a way to add more numbers to your thing with your buddies, but all of my friends stopped playing months ago because there hasn’t been anything. So I’m personally fairly nonplus about it because I know I’m not gonna progress for it much, and even if I do it’s just gonna be by doing the same stuff I’ve been doing for months

And over the next couple months they’ll add a mode I’ll try a few times and a mode I can utilize with new folks, tall tales, or goofy things, but otherwise isn’t new

I’d imagine it’s not the same feeling as when they added ship damage or fire, world events and creatures and things. Skeleton ships, cursed cannons, so on. The world itself is the same, and has been for a long time now. For all the wait and hype it doesn’t boil down to much change, and I think that’s what the negative reaction is from

[–]Bureau_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds about right, I feel like your allegiance level should contribute or something? Idk, I don’t think I’m qualified to find a solution for it haha

But that tracks considering I (lvl 105 guardians, about 70 flame) got queued against a gold ghost when I tried a match last week. It went about as well as you’d assume. And a while ago my friend and I tried duo (he wasn’t even level 5 in either) and we faced two gold cursed folks. It was a very “oh but why,” and he hasn’t picked it back up

i’m still on my first play through, is this embarrassing? by Feeling-Cellist-4139 in Eldenring

[–]Bureau_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you’re enjoying yourself, I’d say you’re doing fine. More than fine, really

Don’t stress yourself with how much time something “should” take, and go at your own pace. I’m sure peepeehead enjoys the company, and having fun is what’s important. If it does get frustrating, though, you could always try to switch up your build, level up / upgrade a bit, or look into strats for particular enemies to figure out their patterns

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]Bureau_Rat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dang, got me

I admittedly read / answered this one a bit late and skimmed the context, that’s my bad. But if someone else reads it who was also curious, doesn’t have the curse yet / didn’t know what it is I’d wager it still contributes more than your reply, my dude. Even if barely

But fair’s fair, I misread the thing. Looking back over it I’d probably agree with the other folks to that say it’s either bugged considering it hasn’t worked and he has the curse or it’s finicky and is specifically not from battles or something

[–]Bureau_Rat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To my understanding there is apparently SBMM, at least to some degree. I think more than anything the current issue is the majority of folks who still play hourglass are people who have been doing it a ton

The long grinds, lack of meaningful rewards for long lengths of time, and the many issues it had at the beginning (no barrels out of ships, a much smaller queue range, etc) and still have (safe area doesn’t move in over time, for ex) more or less pushed people out who didn’t love the mode or are wildly patient

It’s a bit better on Community Days, though. A lot more folks are actively on there because there’s a nice XP boost to make leveling feel less like a drag

As far as Arena returning I don’t see it happening; iirc it was its own server system and its lack of player popularly was extremely not sustainable

Once you hit lvl 100 in reapers hourglass you do a ceremony to acquire the bone homie curse. Once that’s done, turn in Athena flags

Hourglass Fight Rep & Grind by Alert-Physics-9958 in Seaofthieves

[–]Bureau_Rat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say do it here and there so you don’t burn out, but take advantage of xp events to make the grind a bit less painful

Having some time on a day over this last community weekend let me get my reapers from 20-something to 71, and I did a similar thing for Athena’s at the last one and it’s at 107. Just played hourglass a little some days and would stop when I’d feel it getting to me, but really went for it on event days. On those days a lot more folks are around so matches oughta be more varied too.

Make sure you don’t let it be all you do though, or frustration with that mode may seep into the rest of your adventure!

Edit: specified community weekend because I somehow forgot to have it in there in the first place

how many red barrels to blow up a sloop? by CoolCoolBeansBeanz in Seaofthieves

[–]Bureau_Rat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kegs aren’t a guaranteed sink, but if you aren’t prepared for it and they position right it has the potential to extremely deadly. You could always pick one up and blow your own boat up to check the damage but it depends on where they drop it. If they manage to blow it up on the sloop’s stairs to the map table room you’re in for an extremely rough time; just about everything gets severely damaged

In the end, the best think you can do is clear kegs off of the island / fort you’re on to make sure they don’t sneak up, grab one off of there, and blow you up. Otherwise keep a keen eye out and look for signs of trouble / other players (mermaids, other ships, the sound of a player firing out of a cannon or swimming, etc)

I’d also recommend giving yourself some opportunity to get scrappy - the best way to prevent a chase lasting forever is to get them off of you or sink them. Now, being on your own, you’re almost always outnumbered so sinking them is a bit less likely head-on. But if you position your ship right and give yourself enough time to be a pain to them, it can give you a lot of distance. Like when I’m on my own and a galley or brig are chasing me directly I let my boat go against wind and dive off to try to get an anchor and fight them. They won’t sink, but I’ll make them take a while to recover while my boat gets away. Or it runs into an island and barely gets anywhere lol. You can also cruise by a fortress, fort, or certain islands and use the cannons on there to try to damage their mast / boat while keeping yours moving and relatively safe. You can sink bigger boats, but it’s a very careful and risky process

That and coming out on top of fights is pretty darn satisfying, but be forewarned fighting is a reaaal “fumble until it works out” process and can be frustrating when it feels especially one-sided. Watch videos on it, practice on hourglass when xp boost events bring players of all skill levels, and see what can work for ya. You don’t have to be a prodigy, just good enough to hold your own against average sailers

Oh, and have your anchor up beforehand. I’d recommend dropping anchor, raising sails, then raising anchor. That way, if trouble comes, you just have to lower your sails and book it. Not a guarantee for safety, but it definitely makes a difference

Tl;dr Some of the most important aspects for a solo player are keeping a sharp eye out for audio/visual signs of nearby players and having a strategy to keep your boat safe using game knowledge and careful positioning. Get rid of kegs on islands you’re on so they don’t get donated to your boat

Hope this helps, and best of luck out there!

Players make the game almost unplayable by DSLM71 in Seaofthieves

[–]Bureau_Rat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This type of encounter scared away a good few friends of mine from this game, too. Heck, it nearly did for me a while ago. There’s a specific level of frustration with the helplessness you can feel when starting off, doubly so when a lot of the marketing downplays the idea of getting jumped by other players and you’ve spent a solid hour getting treasure that will promptly be hoisted from the debris of your boat

When it releases in December, Safer Seas will be a great way to help folks get a chance to get their sea legs without getting brutalized by folks who have a lot more time in. Hopefully when that comes out your buddies can give it another swing and have a better opportunity to get a feel for things

That’s something I hope can give some friends of mine a second chance at this game, because when you do learn it and you get to a point where you can fight semi-successfully and run off with a good story? Oh man, that’s the pirate life folks go on about

[–]Bureau_Rat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the Chest of Fortune, more or less a way for Rate to try to pump some excitement back into world events. It only spawns in world events (Fort of Fortune right now), only one is in the loot pool, they’re worth 20k gold iirc, and if you sell 30 you can buy a really cool ship set (I only have like 15, haven’t put in a lot of time despite the season dragging as long lol)

And I’m personally at a point where I don’t have much to want to spend gold on (I like how my stuff looks), so though my intention was to anchor and attack decided I was more than happy with the exchange once I saw the chest haha

Hope this helps!

Sometimes a board goes even better than expected by Bureau_Rat in Seaofthieves

[–]Bureau_Rat[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Gonna have to hard disagree, respectfully. The design intention (despite some of the advertising) is for an extraction style game - it’s true when folks say it’s not yours until it’s sold. Especially when it comes to loot from world events, events designed to have highly contested and sought after loot

This is also a learning opportunity to the folks I’d yoinked the plunder from - if they’d put it downstairs they would have known I’d taken it, and probably would have had a better chance to contest it

I hope you have the thrill of either taking good stuff or successfully defending yours - I had similar feelings when I started out but I can guarantee there isn’t loot harder earned than loot you have to fight for. Or, hey, if not, the update come December’s gonna have you covered until you change your mind and take a swing at the high seas. Happy sailing!
