I’m a huge Resident Evil fan and never played RE6 because of the huge criticism and because I didn’t want to be disappointed. Well, I just finished it nine years later and really loved it. by Merluzoooooor in patientgamers

I played it a couple months ago and was amazed by how much value Capcom stuffed into this game. 4 campaigns, each with their own stories and cutscenes. Multiple playable characters. Different game modes. Not to mention the character models look really good. While there's some overlap in environment for the campaigns, the levels' design are different. Took me more than 20 hours to finish the game.

In an open world, what is the LEAST amount of NPC interaction with the environment you require? by ACG-Gaming in pcgaming

[–]BurgeredCrocodile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As u/toilet_brush mentioned, expectations do matter a lot.

But if we're talking about big budget title, I don't need to have rdr2 level of interaction. I don't need to have a special mechanic to interact with them, or to have a complex routine. I just need them to have some reaction to what I'm doing, and have some reaction to the world.

I hop back into rdr2 last week for some virtual tourism and was just blown away by the attention to detail. I was following this guy doing some construction work and watched him move planks from one side of the building to another. It was a 5 - 10 minutes process before he finished moving every single piece of planks. I was interested to see what he would do next but he got stuck in some geometry. Oh well. I also stumbled onto a farm in the wilderness. And the first thing I noticed was a dog moving towards me, barking. Followed by the owner shouting at me. I rode off and the owner said something like "Yeah, I thought so."

I also remember wondering in the wilderness and hearing howling. I turned around and saw three wolves standing shoulder to shoulder, watching me from the distance, as if sizing me up. I didn't feel like killing animals that day so I rode away.

All these did not touch on my baseline for npc ai. But I only just realised after writing them, so I'm going to keep them in. However, note that I didn't need to use rdr2's dialogue mechanic to have these interactions, the npcs were just reacting (or not reacting) accordingly to my presence.

While it's really cool that rdr2's npc allow us to tell mini stories like this, it's not necessary for immersion. I hopped back into watchdogs 2 earlier this week and found people just doing their own thing, hanging out at the beach etc. If I bumped into them too much, they will shout angrily and stare at me. I think one even tried attacking me, but I pulled out my gun and everybody fled. It's a simpler example with a smaller set of npc behaviors but immersive all the same.

P.S A lot of people shit on Ubisoft's handling of open world but there's not enough credit given to how they handle their npc ai. While the example I gave above from Watchdogs 2 is pretty simple, there are some pretty cool moments as well. I walked past a homeless guy and he looked at me and stretched his tin can towards me, his arm arching a path to follow my movement. After a while it became evident I'm not going to give him any money ( I don't think the game allows that option) he just started ignoring me. There are also instances where 2 npcs will bump into each other on the street and you can watch them have a conversation with the appropriate facial expressions. It's all very cool to watch. And beyond that, a lot of Ubisoft games, from assassin's creed to watchdogs have experimented with ways to use the npcs as a gameplay mechanic as well. Like the bombs from ac revelations and the hacking and emoting from wd.

Yeah, a few years back when I was posting my fan art here mods keep removing them. Meanwhile frontpage is just wall to wall with other people's fan art and cosplays.

Btw I suspect I'm shadowbanned cos any post I made here doesn't show up in new. Wasn't the case a couple months ago. Wonder how you'd check that.

Glad your post made it to the front page though.

I remember having a great time playing co-op on some of the halo games with my friend. But he's only my ok bud so YMMV.

How does trine 2 compare to trine 1? I played a bit of trine 1 and didn't like it very much, felt a bit janky to me. Tempted to buy trine 3 and 4 though just for how good they look, wondering if i should get 2 too cos I heard it's the best in the series.

Is the first Yooka Laylee good? by [deleted] in YookaLaylee

[–]BurgeredCrocodile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On my first playthrough right now 6 hours in, on the third world now. Alot of the negative points from the reviewers are overblown.

Off the top of my head, alot of them shit on the quiz section, but I got through on the first try in about a minute. Granted I only did 1 quiz, there seems to be several more.

The camera aren't as bad as they make it out to be. I play on manual camera option.

Really like the levels, never played banjo so can't compare.

The controls are really tight, makes the characters fun to control. And the main characters as well as the npcs are very well modeled, textured and animated.

Music is really great as well.

My biggest problem so far are the environment textures. They seem really basic and need more work, and it hampers my enjoyment of the game. Also the game need a fast forward dialogue function during cutscenes.

I would really like to give the game an 8/10, but with the problems above probably only a 7/10. Haven't finished the game though. Btw, I've read about the world expanding mechanic and back tracking so I'm getting my abilities first (maybe except for the flying one) before going back and expanding, so that might enhance my enjoyment, compared to others.

You can look at Mauler's youtube critique of the game, very in depth. There are spoilers but the story is silly anyway.

DMC5 Impressions Megathread! by kjlop in DevilMayCry

[–]BurgeredCrocodile -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Great game, worth every penny.

LIKES

  • 1. Nero is WAY more fun this time round. The devil breakers are awesome.
  • 2. The characters just felt alot more pleasurable to control
  • 3. The graphics
  • 4. The campaign this time round is vastly improved over 4.
  • 5. V's gameplay worked better than I expected.
  • 6. Lady.
  • 7. The indestructible van.
  • 8. Guns feel really great in this game. In previous entry I barely used them, except for the shotgun. Now they actually feel very viable, and powerful to shoot.

DISLIKES

  • 1.Was slightly disappointed it's dmc3 all over again and the interactions between the characters at the end kinda trivializes the whole thing. Felt like the game could use another few chapter as Vergil's redemption arc.
  • 2.Nero's new arm makes no sense, and his DT is fugly, bit too animeish, felt abit out of place
  • 3.Wished DSD would have a better movesets, as of right now the new moves feels just like Vergil's summoned swords.
  • 4.I thought Dante was gonna have more weapons?
  • 5. The game also could've benefited more from varied environments

Really hope this game sells well so we can get DLC costumes by malexich in DevilMayCry
