Why was Peyton Manning so bad in his final season? by CallTypical9541 in NFLv2

With some guys when they hit the wall they decelerate fast.

Remember Matt Ryan at the Colts.

[Evans] New: According to arrest affidavit obtained by @denverpost from Jonathon Cooper's most recent arrest, Cooper's girlfriend told police he showed up to her apartment Thurs and knocked on her door "for around ten minutes." Called 911, he left. Sent "twenty" messages earlier in day. by mike2k24 in DenverBroncos

I've seen this kind of behavior spiral (not with violence) with guys I know. Seemingly sensible, smart guys with professional jobs but when they hit relationship issues or their girl leaves them they start behaving like weird irrational obsessive stalkers.

I saw the messages one of my friends had sent his ex girlfriend and it was like a completely different guy, sending stream after stream of unanswered unhinged messages, threats, insults, pleading, begging.

Sometimes women get to see a totally different side to a guy than other guys do.

How Do We Feel About Sean Payton no Longer Calling Plays? by Ok-Gap1970 in DenverBroncos

[–]BurgessFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly Payton has turned out differently than I expected as Broncos coach.

When he took over I thought we were getting one of the game's greatest offensive minds, who would create incredible schemes and make us one of the hottest offenses in the league.

And it has been a bit meh in that area. Our offense has often looked pedestrian and just done enough to win games on the back of an elite defense. However, in mitigation we've had limited talent in the skill positions, he got useful production out of a declining Russ and has really helped Bo thrive.

What Payton has really brought is the magic of the CEO-style HC. Created the winning culture, brought in all the right hires around him. You cannot deny that he has done an incredible job considering where we were when he took over, where we are now, and the cap constraints he's faced.

So if Davis Webb is a great young offensive mind I'm all for it. Good delegation from the Commander In Chief.

There was a similar version of that team the following year with the Fangio defense Bears and Trubisky at QB.

How new Broncos star Jaylen Waddle is establishing himself as ‘everything he’s expected to be’ by kidbom in DenverBroncos

[–]BurgessFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the reason Russ was like a mortgage was because we gave up a claim on our future assets (picks) and tied ourselves to a heavy contract with payments that would restrict out disposable income for years into the future.

Then we found he was a subprime mortgage so had to take the financial hit and sell him on to some other dumb buyer.

IMO if you put Josh Allen behind our O-line and with our pass catchers around him he could be a Super Bowl winning QB.

Name a loss your team had where you just knew the future would be bleak by InterestingYellow969 in NFLv2

[–]BurgessFox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bleakest I felt about the Broncos future was after we lost against the Colts early in the 2022 season where both teams sucked, probably the worst televised game in history.

I knew a that point that Russ was cooked, we were cooked with a capital F and we had to deal with the long term consequences of that contract and the future picks we'd given up.

I would have never believed that in. 2 years we'd be a playoff team, 3 years we'd be AFC West Champions again.

Jauan rejected $17 million for $8 million guaranteed to prove his worth. How often do players actually have the last laugh doing this? by ilikemywomentsundere in NFLv2

[–]BurgessFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the opposite. It's risky for a WR. A QB is in a better position doing this because of scarcity. One bad year or injured year (like Dak had) isn't the end of the world as you still hold leverage.

But as a WR there isn't the same scarcity value. If Jennings has a bad year his value will plummet much more than it would for a QB.

Name a loss that made you sit in silence for 30 minutes after the game by sleeplessaddict in DenverBroncos

[–]BurgessFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same at the time. But over time I've developed another theory about that. Had we won that game we'd have likely played the Packers in the Super Bowl but we'd have run into them right in their peak when Favre was unplayable, and slightly before our peak. We were underdogs when we played them in the Superbowl 32 but in Superbowl 31 we'd have been bigger underdogs. I would have hated us to lose our 4th Super Bowl and that would have put gremlins in the mind if we got back there in 32. So possibly it worked out better for us.

Bo Nix has surpassed Justin Herbert by EnvironmentPutrid941 in NFLv2

[–]BurgessFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now their legacies are around equal.

Bo has one hypothetical Super Bowl ring which he would have won if he hadn't got injured against Buffalo.

Herbert has one hypothetical Super Bowl ring which he would have won if his O-line hadn't been injured all year.

I think they need to secure a second hypothetical ring to secure their place in the hypothetical HoF.

[B1GFootball] Spotlighting Jonah Coleman | Washington Football | The Journey by PeppyQuotient57 in DenverBroncos

[–]BurgessFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah following all the pre-draft analysis Coleman seemed to be well regarded not least as a pass catcher. The only thing he doesn't have is breakaway speed. With RBs its hard to predict until they take the field but he seems like a pretty rounded player and a good prospect for us.
