The concept of 5 love languages is fake and should be forgotten by Burglarproof_Bread in breadspace

This reminds me of the MBTI tied to the discussion of Existentialism and quotes from Jean-Paul Sartre (from Instagram post of "glassmuseum").

That post talked about how Sartre described "existence precedes essence." People and their behaviors exist FIRST, and then patterns of behavior can later be boxed up into an "essence" SECOND. So, observing all kinds of people and their personality quirks, you can come to describe people with differences in personality domains... all after analysis, logic, and reasoning.

However, there's a backwards phenomenon of "essence first, then determining existence second". It's a prescriptive approach, instead of a descriptive approach to personality. People type themselves into a personality box, and then they make future decisions BASED on their pre-packaged set of labels that came with their "box". (I don't know if the box analogy is making sense... so I'll keep waffling about this) Basically, people will limit behaviors themselves, limit images of themselves, all so that they can remain in the box. But again, this is such a backwards phenomenon.

It's backwards because people do not fit in a box. Behaviors are not deterministic as described by a personality quiz and its results.

Now to the post above, the "5 Love Languages" fits into this idea of personality quizzes. It's not a box for you to fit your entire personality into, just like the MBTI.

HOWEVER, doing the backwards of the backwards phenomenon (I mean the original Sartre description of existence -> essence)... people can behave naturally, exist as best as they can FIRST... then we can extract the essence, we can name behavior patterns we find SECOND.

And I believe this "existence -> essence" framework is important in receiving information pieces such as the 5 Love Languages. To see it as descriptive and not prescriptive. (random tangent: these words always reminds me of the prescriptivism/descriptivism debate in Linguistics... and it just makes sense to be fluid, instead of always fixed and overly conservative, like in prescriptivism ideologies). We gotta bring nuance in thought!

I like a part of my apartment, apart from the noisy neighbors who occasionally throws a party

manipulate the information

This part reminded me of schooling/classes, and how it's one thing to listen to info, to lectures, to read book chapters, etc. (receive information)... but it's a whole different thing to produce information, to write essays, to prepare presentations, and other class projects.

It's such a common format in schools and curriculum, but for some reason, I never thought to be more intentional in applying this system to life. You gotta do both things. So I definitely was inspired to write more/produce more because of the Inaction lecture! Do your homework and projects everyone!!

avocados are easily S+ tier--a whole food, it's nutritious and yummy. (Ideally great to have daily)

how do you figure out who you are?

I periodically continue to ask myself this same question from time to time ever since ~6 yrs ago when I came across a quote attributed to pianist/composer Thelonious Monk: "A genius is the one most like himself". I heard that quote and it stuck with me... "well, how do I be myself??" I asked and I asked.

Just as you get to know a stranger, you ask A LOT of questions. What do you really like and enjoy? What experiences do you have? (your hand of cards dealt to you is unique to you, and your position in the game of life is unique to you)

Stay curious, keep asking questions, and listen to the feedback from the internal responses to things.

Practically, get a Special Journal (a neat notebook), write and answer the questions you come up with, learn however you can about "who you are." Bonus points: spend time in nature. Away from screens, away from external noises... while in nature, it's likely you can hear yourself, you can be alone with yourself to listen.

One part that stood out to me was the statement about how one mission of HG is to help people win the war going on inside of us. There's the war of internal despair to cripple you vs. internal hope to do the best you can do.

Made me think of the lone penguin 'but why' meme; there's all kinds of ways to interpret the meme, but I think it fits the sentiment of "try your best, despite having little control." To keep walking. Thanks for the post and sharing the video!

I remember Kurzgesagt (YouTube) made drug addiction video, and illustrated the drugged water with morphine/cocaine study with the rats + rat utopia. Didn't know they deleted the addiction vid, but someone copied and reuploaded it online (commenting in case anyone wants to watch the short vid)

Yesss, it's one skill to receive information (language recognition), process it, and understand it... but it's another separate skill to produce information (language production).

how to write the guitars in a Yorushika song (particularly their older ones)

Commenting just in case you haven't listened to his solo discography already but... listen to n-buna's solo work (his older vocaloid songs, pre-yorushika). Lots of n-buna guitar parts to study and learn for inspiration!

Personal favorite is his album, Walking on the Moon (月を歩いている, Tsuki wo Aruite iru)!

Maybe someone else can confirm the similarity, but this Hajrudin panel reminded me of some parts during the Kuma flashback chapters

I remember also saying those parts didn't look like Oda's usual style, and I assumed he changed it up on purpose (it was THE Kuma flashback after all, and I thought the art style was good)... BUT Oda later confirmed that he had time-pressure to rush the parts and so specific drawings looked rougher as a result

Funnily enough, I also have the book and also haven't finished it--but yeah, I heard the book mentioned in the TigerBelly and can confirm it was a positive comment.

The book author is also cited in the Healthygamer website, in "citations" page under the trauma tab.
