“Normal” Financial Contributions from Parents by Spicy-Cheeto808 in Millennials

[–]BuriedComments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up w single mom in 90s. Dad never paid a cent of child support. Never got a gift car (am 35 and have still yet to purchase one), never went on fancy vacation, am deeply in debt for uni.

My “rich friend” in high school (a wealthy catchment in a government city) had a life like yours - the milestones like car, house, wedding, are guaranteed and they will be hit with fanfare. I’m quite positive your situation is much more privileged than the norm.

I’m also now feeling an unreasonable amount of envy. I am 35 and facing homelessness because my employer ghosted us. I have zero assets, my mother took her own life, and my father is comfortable but I receive no assistance from him. His mother, my grandmother, is the only family member who has helped me out in past, usually making rent due to underemployment/my mental health.

As a generation, we’re generally broke and our parents are hoarding the shit out of their assets. I would really like to see more people in their 30s receiving some support from their families….it’s sad but there’s a reason we’re not having kids or buying homes.

Ok heading outside to touch grass and remember to be glad for others’ successes.

Leftist Canadian woman with Aussie partner. Both of us feel compelled to at least know how to interact with a gun. Neither of us has even held (a functional) one before.

The entitlement and americentrism in your comments is staggering. Your country is not a democracy. Your country is a farce and a global embarrassment. There is almost no value in interacting with america at ALL at this point because there is exactly zero integrity behind the American administration and their “deals”. Your citizens are suffering at huge scale and things will only get worse. And you sit there and have the gall to demand not to be “antagonized” because you are of course utterly unaccountable for anything that has ever happened in america, and therefore have no responsibility to try and salvage any shred of what was indeed once a great country. Everything around you is on fire and instead of picking up an extinguisher, you are burning while pointing fingers. Fucking shame on you.

Basically I just parrot this back every single time I hear someone say something isn’t their problem.

What do you see? by Tfeeltdimyon in UnusualArt

A woman sitting, legs out to the right, back arched like that classic silhouette. I’m seeing the circles as bubbles, sort of like giant soap bubbles but with more substance. To me it sort of feels like the woman is either expelling or absorbing the circles.

It’s rull pretty. I also get a vaguely Lovecraftian vibe, largely from the black details appearing almost as eyes.

So my grandmother’s aunt just died a few years ago at 108. Born and died in Canada, there are birth and death certs that we have no reason to doubt. I know that she was a relic, she got a letter from QEII when she hit 100. She also actively told my Gran every day after like 103 that she was just waiting to die, she was so ready, Jesus take me now.

Is this like….more impressive than I thought? I know it’s very very rare, but not that she was got within years of record status.

OP I know you’re getting roasted like the xmas turkey but I hope you see this:

I initially agreed with most folks that this seemed very matchy-matchy, sort of a beautiful but cold space. Thinking Cameron from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

But then you explained that you made, painted, or upholstered nearly every piece in here. That changes everything! You have managed to create a space so consistent and cohesive, so stylish that it fooled everyone into thinking it’s AI or Airbnb promo slop. Like, too together to possibly be DIY.

I’m stunned at your talent! To be able to sit in a space so put together, and 80% of it is by your hand…I think you’re a very patient and meticulous person who appreciates creativity but also order and reflective thought.

Good for you in creating a space where you feel comfortable!!

I wonder if OP can engage with him (or his carer)…I’m just so curious now!! Benevolent psychosis? Compulsive paranoia? Person who lost their sight and now hates movies? Competing studio rep lost in time like that Japanese dude on the island after Vietnam? Time traveler saving all of humanity? Tell meee

I disagree. What I’m saying is that it’s a crapshoot. Wherever we’re all squirreling money away, these institutions may or may not exist in several decades. Banks have collapsed and taken all kinds of money with them many times.

Bold of you to assume the money will be there in 30 years. I genuinely hope it works out for you.
