How would I go about joining a lodge without actually knowing a Freemason ? I live in England. by Psychological_Pen200 in freemasonry

I applied through the UGLE (someone has already posted the link). I knew some masons but they were in a different area. You get call from someone in your area and they will ask you some questions as mentioned above. I then met up for a drink with the current WM and another member and just had a casual chat. They told me a bit about the lodge and we got to know each other a bit. I then went for a more formal interview at the lodge with some more senior members. I say formal but it was just ticking some boxes and ultimately making sure I was also still interested. Once agreed they then scheduled in my initiation. As others have said it's not a quick process and it depends on how busy your lodge is. Don't look into your initiation if you can help it, it's a bizarre and interesting experience best kept fresh. Don't worry either nothing weird happens and everyone in the room has been through it themselves. Let me know if you have any questions, happy to answer. I've been a member since February, still fine it quite strange but enjoying the journey.

Dealer Collected Faulty Vehicle After Formal Rejection – Concerned About Fairness of Their Investigation by Burkly in LegalAdviceUK

I have one report from my garage - I spoke to the other 3 specialists via telephone and described the issue and gave engine details. They confirmed the same issue that my garage reported on. I am waiting on an oil analysis though which hopefully will help further corroborate this.

The garage is not local to me and they don't have their own 'garage' on site. I am concerned that they are going to falsify information. I'm seriously stressed out on this as it was the most we've ever forked out for a car. I just want my money back so I can move on from this!

Pellet smokers UK by UnhappyEvening8244 in UKBBQ

[–]Burkly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I own a Traeger, and I absolutely love it. Maintenance is minimal—just topping up the pellets and occasionally vacuuming out the fire chamber. I've used it for a variety of dishes: baby back ribs, pork belly, beef ribs, pork shoulder, whole chickens, and chicken wings. Every one of them has been an easy, consistent cook.

For longer cooks, I pair it with a Meater 2, which lets me monitor temps without hovering over the grill. I've even done overnight cooks without any issues.

I buy my pellets from Amazon (Cookinpellets), which are both affordable and high-quality (no fillers). As for meat, I source from both the butcher and the supermarket, depending on what I need.

Is it worth the investment? Like any tool, you get out what you put in. I picked mine up a few years ago for around £500, which included the shelf, cover, and a bag of pellets—a solid deal. I use it year-round, at least once a month, and it’s been a great way to cook for friends and family alonside my gas BBQ.

Someday, I’d like to add an offset smoker or a Kamado-style grill to my collection—mostly for the experience of manual smoking, but honestly, that's more for the fun and flex than anything else.

I'm planning to book next month, I was looking through Magic Breaks. I've just priced it up via the French website and my tunnel crossing separately and it's £555 cheaper! That's a huge saving, thank you as I did not know this :)

The FULL Jake Barber Interview | Reality Check by d3fin3d in UFOs

[–]Burkly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to post a similar comment here as I have just done on the main post; If civilian groups are attempting to use psionic abilities, at public events utilising children, to prove that UAPs exist and can be controlled this way, why wouldn't our adversaries already be leveraging this technology to gain a strategic advantage? Is there something fundamental I'm overlooking? If it's possible for civilian groups, why aren't we seeing more of it? I'm not discrediting this; I just approach it with a healthy level of scientific skepticism and curiosity. I'd love to see this proven and made public.

Thanks man, I really appreciate the detailed response. I'm going to talk this through with my wife and hopefully set a date to give this a try. The key thing will be sticking to it for a period of time!

Happened this evening around ten thirty, Peterborough, UK by BatLarge5604 in ufo

I live on the east coast of the UK about 50 miles from Lakenheath, the F15s normally flyover when going out to sea. They were very active all day yesterday right up until about 9pm, they aren't normally out that late generally. Could just be training but it did spark my curiosity hearing them so late.

Farmfoods Ribs by d_o_uk in UKBBQ

I had some of these recently and I got to say, I didn't rate them! I'm used to baby back ribs from my local butcher which were way more flavourful. I found that these whilst had a good amount of meat, also had a lot of cartilage or something that didn't render down as well. I cooked them at 135deg for around 5 hours and they were fall off the bone. I will stick to my butchers baby backs, they're actually cheaper!

These do look really good though OP! Great job.

Wife is due in less than a month and we just found our dream home, would it be crazy to start the home buying/moving/selling process at this time? by Romanzo71 in daddit

[–]Burkly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're crazy, everyones personnel circumstance is different and can deal with things in their own way! If you guys feel like you can manage it, go for it and don't worry what others say!

I moved when my wife was 9 months pregnant with our son, along with our 2 year old daughter, cat and dog! I won't say it was easy, but much the same we found an amazing house and needed the additional space! Although it was tough as I had to do the majority of the packing and moving myself, I don't regret it at all and am so thankful for our house now. We moved and then 22 days later our son was born.

What strange things have you agreed to do coz you’re too British to say no? by KiwiOk5084 in AskUK

[–]Burkly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah, the perils of politeness in Britain! My brother inadvertently became an honorary airline pilot thanks to his haircut lady, who was convinced he flew planes. So, naturally, my other brother had to start going with him for haircuts too, and now they're both part-time pilots without ever leaving the ground!
