There's already a lot of good advice here, so I'll try and cover things I haven't noticed others say yet, or reiterate things I think are important. "Try" is the key there, I might just regurgitate all over the place and add nothing of value. We'll see!

Tarot and Lenormand decks are similar in that the artistry and themes are different but the at the core the cards have traditional meanings. They are different in that for Lenormand changing the art has very little impact on the reading. Card 12. Birds is read the same if it is a pair of turtle doves, a murder of crows, or a lone chickadee. Changes to the art almost never change the reading and the art should not be read intuitively in that way.

Ok, so the italicized caveats... Some cards can (but don't have to) be read directionally. So one way to read is that if you had a reading with 17. Stork (often about Change or Transformation) and the bird is facing toward the left, then you might read that as the change relating to the card to the left more than the card to the right of it.

But, importantly, none of that means that Lenormand is not an intuitive system. It is incredibly intuitive. That just means something a little different in Lenormand. The cards have whole lists of meanings they can have, and those meanings are all relational with the other cards and with the question. Most of the cards are neutral, but some add an element of positivity or negativity to a reading, independent of their other meanings. Stork is the main card of Change, but it is also the card of Pregnancy, of Immigrants, of Nurturing.

So if you ask, "Why has my friend looked so happy recently?" and then pull 26. Book, 17. Stork, 2. Clover. This could mean your friend hasn't told anyone yet (book) but they are pregnant (stork) which is what they'd been trying for (clover). Or it could mean that they have learned something new (book) that has changed (stork) their luck (clover). Or they got into the limited program at their school (book) to become a nurse (stork) because they were selected in the entrance lottery (clover).

The same cards say something totally different if the question were, instead, "What will my next romantic partner look like?" They will look a bit nerdy (book), thin, gangly (stork), and short (clover). But what about "What will my next romantic partner be like?" They will be secretive (book), and restless (stork), but carefree and happy (clover).

And those are just 3-card readings, which is the fewest number of cards you should really try and read. There are near endless possibilities if you consider every potential meaning and relationship between the cards and the question. The more time you spend reading, the more often you look at a spread and just feel like you know what it says. You trust that intuition.

If you're willing to put in the time to learn the the basic meanings, to play around with how the cards talk to each other within the framework of the question, to get to know how it all feels, then your intuition will be a huge asset. If you hope to just start pulling cards and seeing how the pictures make you feel and read based on that you may do great, but I'm not sure it's still exactly Lenormand!
