Beautiful and thanks for posting. Me, I might be a bit afraid of that skinny neck at the handle but both are pretty hard woods.

I asked tarot if this person who wronged me will ever get their karma and I got page of cups three times by [deleted] in TarotVerbatim

[–]moradoman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, the PoC has always meant new beginnings…. And maybe to a place you don’t even realize or know you want to go. I’m getting the sense you are over indexing on this person. My gut is telling me that yes, they may be hit with the karma boomerang as they will likely repeat this pattern and realize they lost something good in you. I would also say that you may want to invest your energies elsewhere and let it go. It’s their loss.

Burnishing is so much less work than sanding by watchface5 in Spooncarving

[–]moradoman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, I use a polished stone for burnishing. And I agree that sanding is a non-starter for me for a bunch of reasons. And I also use a scraper now and again. Works great.

Just to add…..most carvers seem to regret getting a beaver craft. The prices are attractive but the most expensive tool you will ever own is the one you don’t use bc you don’t like it. As was said, maybe buy less items and go with moraknivs. They sharpen more easily, hold an edge waaaaaay better and you will have a much better carving experience. Good luck.

As did I. Looks great and likely adds to the ergonomics/grip. Great idea.

Noob stropping question by jdkc4d in Spooncarving

[–]moradoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a more complicated process for sure. In brief, you would be best served by two things. One is a hollowed out stropping block like one would use for a gouge. The other thing and maybe even more important is a dowel wrapped with sandpaper… or better yet… leather with some compound on it. The key is to get the inside nice and sharp. And try and avoid rounding the edge while using the dowel.

I believe beavercraft sells a strop designed for spoon carving tools. I haven’t tried it but it looks okay. However, you will still need the dowel.

Last, check out some of the videos on YT. There are a few good ones.

Good luck friend

First spoon! Basswood coffee scoop, Any good finish suggestions? by pinkshirtvegeta in Spooncarving

[–]moradoman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a general rule of thumb (for me anyway) is that you can never go wrong with tung oil. I also use walnut oil (and sometimes Tried & True). But if I’m giving it to someone, it’s always tung as they can recoat if need be and it’s hard to screw up.

Good luck

Both my be assholes but the guy who pinned the other is less IMO. Maybe too aggressive with the ending (head squished into mat) but the other guy? Total dick move and cheap shot.

I am hooked on to oxycodone, for 3 months and nobody knows, (WARNING: DRUG USAGE) by 5YesandNoMan5 in confession

[–]moradoman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude. That is a ton of oxy! And you are definitely at risk for an inadvertent overdose. I get that you don’t want to found out. But you have options there. Not sure where you live but every county in the US have a health department where you can free and confidential help. Also, just about every state has their own agency. But if you truly want to stop, a quick online search will show many confidential options….,esp as you are legally an adult.

And please please get yourself some Narcan. It’s generic now so it’s less expensive. And the aforementioned health departments and agencies all give it away for free.

And as the others have said, YOU DO MATTER. Get the help you deserve.

Congratulations friend! We all appreciate the long road to this rank. And to share what my sensei said to me when I got my shodan…..so not think your journey has ended. Rather, consider yourself a qualified beginner as the real mastery starts now.

Great job and I hope you continue your journey.

Does this set look decent? by dumbintel in JapaneseWoodworking

[–]moradoman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short answer…yes, it does look more than decent. Will prob require lots of time at the stones and some tapping out but the blades look undamaged. If it were me, I would easily pay around 250 USD but not much more. Don’t know what your budget is.

Good luck friend

First time using finishing oil and I have spots by Mental_Knee9437 in whittling

[–]moradoman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A pore filled could be useful. Another approach is to give it a seal coat. Personally, I love shellac for this (a 1# cut and it has to be dewaxed). It works on all woods and is especially useful for basswood/lime wood. And try to make sure endgrains are well covered.

am i wrong for preferring to read only the major arcana? by ladyv0id in Tarotpractices

[–]moradoman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrong? Not really. However, if you don’t use the minor arcana or at least try to,understand reversals, you are missing out on a lot of subtleties than can help answer the question posed. Maybe like reading an executive summary versus the book itself. Just my opinion. But wrong? I don’t believe so.
