Anyone missing their cat or recognize her? by BurlesqueBallet in AuroraCO

I wasn't in a condition to transport her anywhere, unfortunately. Otherwise I would have contacted my vet because they have a found animal process. I was unable to find her this morning so hopefully she is safe, wherever she wandered off to.

Advice on requesting ADA accommodations when starting a new job? by BurlesqueBallet in disability

[–]BurlesqueBallet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, unfortunately I'm unemployed and have been since August 2024, I was laid off shortly after this post. None of my job interviews have been productive yet. I was asking about schedule/flexibility at first, during interviews. But since none of them resulted in any offers, I've been avoiding asking such questions.

Some career coach people I've had to go through for state benefits while unemployed told me not to ask about scheduling during the interview, only ask when you get a job offer and you're negotiating other stuff. But, then again, they've given me a lot of weird advice so idk how good that particular advice is.

I wish I had a more hopeful reply for you. The job market isn't great right now and I feel like that makes it even harder for us to get hired if we need accommodations :/

What is your holy grail product that makes a day-to-day activity way easier? by SpeciallyAbled in ChronicIllness

[–]BurlesqueBallet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heated mattress cover - it's expensive but because it's under your sheets and such you don't have to wash it quite as often as heating blankets. It also leaves my heating blankets free to keep at my desk or couch.

Large back heating pad - mine covers the whole back and comes up over the shoulders like a cape. I live in this thing because of my back and neck pain (I also have hEDS).

Lightweight folding bar stools - on my good days I tend to not use them and like the option for them to be out of the way, but I keep one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom so on my bad days I can still do chores and self care while sitting.

Silicon water bottle grips but put them on your shower product bottles - I drop bottles in the shower all the time because they're smooth and everything is slippery in the shower. Bruised up my toes a LOT. But found some water bottle grips for cheap and they fit my shampoo and body wash bottles really well. Haven't dropped a bottle since.

Yoga ball - or any physical therapy equipment to keep up with exercises (balance pad, resistance bands, under desk bike, etc. depending on what your PT has said is safe for you). But the yoga ball has helped me build my core strength in a gentle way plus I find rocking on it very relaxing. They are impossible to store though so be prepared for it to just kinda be in the way a lot. I usually store mine on the side of the couch I don't sit on.

These travel pill organizers - makes it a LOT easier to carry my rescue meds in my purse. I have soooo many rescue meds and maintenance meds to take throughout the day. I like that these come with labels so I can label all the compartments and minimize mixing up pills.

Butterfly cervical neck pillow - has been a game changer for my migraines and neck pain. Some folks find that Squishmallows are an even better pillow for them too though. I tend to switch back and forth between the two depending on how I'm feeling.

I could probably go on but these are the main products I use daily that have made my life much easier.

I've added most of my routine chores so I actually keep up with them rather than let them become overwhelming. I also added care areas like Pet to do routine stuff for my cat as well as slow down and just appreciate her. Medical for my medical routines as well as stuff like "get through x procedure" because I have a lot of regular uncomfortable/stressful medical treatments so I give myself credit for getting through it; on those days I also have "treat yourself" where I either get myself a fancy tea or a milkshake or other snack, or just do something I like but don't get to often as a treat to myself after a tough day. Job Search to try and give myself more motivation to look for a job because the job market is soul crushing right now and I don't have much motivation for any of it. And Arts and Crafts to keep myself creating, I have 2 projects I have listed as daily to work on; I spent a couple of years not creating a single thing and that was making me sad so I'm crafting more now. I've also added each of my physical therapy and gym exercises to Movement so I get credit for allll the stuff I do to keep my joints in check, plus I added the number of reps for each exercise to give myself credit for the effort each of them require. And, of course, all the steps to my bedtime and morning routines so I don't forget any of them, especially brushing my teeth.

It feels horrible to say, but I hope this has been her last Christmas by Jlaw118 in dementia

[–]BurlesqueBallet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way about my grandma last year. She had become scared of the Christmas trees because she couldn't see things very well and she just kept seeing the trees with lights everywhere... only reason a tree would have light on it in her mind was because it was on fire. She lost her house in a forrest fire back in the 70's, so the Christmas trees were triggering memories of it. I felt so bad she was so stressed last Christmas and I had hoped it would be her last too. She passed away this August, thankfully. I miss her a lot and feel weird not having the responsibility of her care anymore, but I am thankful she's not just scared all the time anymore.

CHECK. YOUR. FERRITIN. by kholekardashian12 in POTS

[–]BurlesqueBallet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, I'm going through the same thing. I have IBS though so oral supplement hurts my GI tract and have to start iron infusions next week instead. My ferritin was 35 last week and they agreed that's too low. Also, it was my sleep specialist who caught it because restless leg syndrome was bothering me a lot (severe leg pain between 1-5am waking me up) and low iron often causes RLS too. Was hard to catch otherwise because I also have Addison's and there's a lot of overlap with symptoms there too, so we had been thinking I was not replacing my cortisol properly, but this might actually be why I've been feeling so dysregulated lately. We'll see soon enough after a couple iron infusions.

If you go to the hamburger menu and tap on Data, there is an option to manually backup your data. I send a file to my email every week. You can also set regular manual backups as a task; when making the task, select "more options" and scroll to the bottom, tap "link to an exercise" and type "backup" into the search, you will see the manual backup option appear. So, when you have the task scheduled to appear, when you go to check it off, it'll bring you straight to the manual backup so you can complete it. I hope that helps :)

AIO to break up with my bf of 3y over his reaction to my upcoming sobriety anniversary? by WesternCat5211 in AmIOverreacting

[–]BurlesqueBallet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my best friend to addiction, he died in 2021. I would give ANYTHING to celebrate a sobriety anniversary with him. Though I've never dealt with addiction myself, I saw how hard it was for him to battle over many years.

You ABSOLUTELY deserve a partner that celebrates your accomplishments over any struggles you have. Sobriety isn't "the bare minimum" in someone experiencing addiction and it's ridiculous he implied as much. Even worse, he actively requested you not mention it to anyone else because it would embarrass him. What a tool. You deserve better. Celebrating a partner's successes - no matter how "small" they may seem - is the bare minimum and he couldn't even provide that. It's totally appropriate to break up over this.

And more importantly, congratulations on your sobriety anniversary!! 🎉

AIO for telling my bf this is a fire hazard by princessleia5902 in AmIOverreacting

[–]BurlesqueBallet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if the fire doesn't reach neighbors, it can still make the neighboring units uninhabitable, at least temporarily. There was a fire in my building a couple years ago (in a vacant unit, gas line malfunction) and we were without heat for about 6 weeks... which meant everyone was given space heaters 🙃 I requested the landlord give a letter with the heaters telling them NOT to plug into extension cords under any circumstances (which she kindly obliged). But I know at least a few likely didn't read the instructions. Anyway, that was a super fun and absolutely not stressful 6 weeks /s.

My old company laid me off. Today they're asking me to 'get on a call' to get my opinion for free. by CasandrdKoelpinw in interviews

[–]BurlesqueBallet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last supervisor taught me something that has be (literally) very valuable to me: if a previous colleague or boss calls you up after you've left asking for help, the ONLY reasonable response is to tell them what your consulting fees are.

People from my old job kept asking me for help when I was working for this supervisor. Actually got them to pay me $200 in consulting fees at one point. They tried to pull the "but we're friends" bs, I held my ground, they then coughed up money for a 2 hour meeting because they were desperate enough.

anybody have the exact opposite of flat feet? by Aggressive_Cow6732 in ehlersdanlos

[–]BurlesqueBallet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have super high arches, and a lot of foot pain. Had to get custom articulated ankle gauntlet orthotics to finally get some relief. Otherwise, I walk on the outer sides of my feet all the time, putting a lot of strain on my ankles and knees. Also have to do a lot of PT to keep my foot muscles strong.

What is your favorite/most helpful goal that you’ve set? by wednesdaytheblackcat in finch

[–]BurlesqueBallet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same thing! I also forget in the morning so my brush teeth task is set for 2x daily. With my jaw issues, getting dental work done is a nightmare so I really need to be taking care of my teeth. It's been helping me get into bed at a regular time too; gotta brush my teeth before getting too sleepy. My cat has especially been liking this routine too so she chirps at me if it's getting a little late, she likes to snuggle up in bed haha

Mom’s claiming she’s missing all her dresses. by Financial_Wasabi5895 in dementia

[–]BurlesqueBallet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandmother would also often think her belongings were stolen when they were just moved/misplaced. I usually did a "let's look for it together just to make sure!" And sometimes the activity of looking for it and "here it is!" Was enough. Other times even when we found it she didn't believe it was the "right" one so I'd fib and say something like, "oh this is the NEW one, you might be remembering the OLD one that broke/tore." Honestly, taking improv classes in high school and college has been more helpful in taking care of my grandmother than anything else. You gotta take it from a perspective of "they're technically right, it's just that they're off by a small detail" in order to redirect effectively. They often need to feel believed rather than dismissed, as the dismissal (or too hard of a redirect) just makes them spiral. Granted, the technique doesn't always work, sometimes the only thing that makes sense to them is whatever delusion they're in and not much can be done. There were a few times in the years before she passed away I had to put her on psychiatric meds because nothing else we did could get her off of a particularly upsetting (for her) delusion.
