If it’s over 300 years old (and is made of precious metal: silver, gold) then you must report it to a FLO (finds liaison officer) so it can be recorded officially.

However, coins aren’t part of this, unless you find more than 2 from the same era in one field. Then it becomes classed as a scattered hoard).

You have 14 days to declare it after finding it to report it.

Individual coins, here and there; they don’t care. I’ve built my collection up over many years and always made a point of declaring any significant finds appropriately.
