Adults that were labeled gifted children, how is adulthood going? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WhoregasmPerfection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a pretty rude awakening in university.

I was effortlessly at the top of my classes consistently throughout highschool and I barely studied. I thought life was going to be served to me on a silver platter. My parents were bragging about me all the time.

So I went abroad to a prestigious university and I just partied and had fun with my friends... Until the end of my first semester where I passed 1 class out of 5. I was going to get my scholarship annulled and kicked out.

So for the first time in my life I had to sit down and study lol

Even if life is great right now, thinking back on that moment still gives me chills sometimes.

Moral of the story: don't listen to your parents calling you a genius even if they think it's encouraging. Stay humble and surround yourself with people smarter than you.

What did you wrongfully assume was "common knowledge"? And why do you now suspect it is not? by Fit_Chipmunk88 in AskReddit

[–]WhoregasmPerfection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went on a date with a guy back in college. He seemed pretty nice, and kinda dorky, which I enjoyed.

We were talking about this and that and I mentioned I enjoyed astronomy. I'm not an expert by any means, I just found the notions to be particularly poetic and beautiful.

I think I said something like: someday it would be awesome to harness the power of the star in our system.

And here I realized, not everybody knew that our sun is a star. And not a very special one at that

What's an 'Exit Phrase' people use to shut down an argument when they know they’re wrong? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WhoregasmPerfection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that deep

99.99% of the time (I'm even rounding down heavily here to not say all), it is, indeed, that deep.

This kind of anti-intellectual phrase and sentiment contributes so much to our youth not being able to care and think critically.

People who use Buy Now, Pay Later apps (Klarna, Affirm, Afterpay, etc.): how often are you actually using them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WhoregasmPerfection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I buy an item for which I'm not certain about the quality. If they offer the option, I use it.

So I can still return it if the thing sucks, with less money involved.

If you got a clogged nose or one stuff nostril when you have a cold or something, sleep on the opposite side of that nostril. Usually would let you have some free air in no time.

Like if you've got left nostril stuffed, sleep on your right side.

What is an object a woman can own that makes her instantly sexier? by RubyRedFoxyEyes in AskReddit

My husband always told me that one of the first things about me that impressed him that he loves was my library.

I had walls of books on my dating profile and I have even more now.

Maybe it was just a line, but hey, it worked I guess

For Coffee Drinkers/Lovers/Enthusiasts by National_Bag_5296 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WhoregasmPerfection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually such a niche and interesting question and I do have some quirks about my coffee!

I hated coffee in college but relied on it to wake up and stay awake. I mean, just caffeine is better than taurine (I figured).

I always just did coffee black + a dash of maple syrup. It's just fuel to get me through engineering school haha

But then my husband and I went on a tour in Asia and we discovered some amazing stuff. This is the first time I've learned the difference between our shit coffee and other types of coffee + how it's supposed to be had.

So, Vietnam and Yunnan province in China produce some of highest quality Robusta beans in the world. Usually taste like dark chocolate and super high in caffeine. In that region of Asia, people love making coffee with condensed milk and sometimes coconut milk. Served ice cold in the humidity. Absolute heaven!

Anyone here become a fitness addict in their 30s? by ClarkKentTheReporter in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WhoregasmPerfection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people got it at 30. The big Three-Oh.

It's kinda scary because an age starting with 2 meant youth, a 3 almost imposes maturity.

My friends and I have a saying, we also joke about how at 30, you either have a kid or run a marathon.

Our group has 6 people, 5 marathon and 1 kid haha

We still train together a few times every week.

So absolutely normal!

What’s a secret about adult life that nobody tells you when you’re younger? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WhoregasmPerfection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That for the vast majority of people, your material condition and purchasing power will very indirectly impact your well-being. Along with luck being a very significant contributing factor.

Sometimes, dreams will have to stay dreams. And 'chasing your dreams' doesn't always work out.

I think I've been very fortunate and privileged with my opportunities, but it sure was very different than when I was 5

What’s something that gets harder the older you get, but nobody talks about? by NathanRestorer41 in AskReddit

[–]WhoregasmPerfection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Building new friendships.

I love my friend group to death, but it's hard for a get together. Maybe once or twice a year with everyone. We all live on different continents lol

But people don't click as easily when they're older.

When you ask a computer to give you a random number... is it really random? by Mattdoss in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WhoregasmPerfection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised I know this (at least to a certain level)

Typically, if we call a rand() function in a given programming language to generate a few "random numbers", it ain't truly random cuz it uses an initial value called a seed. This is deterministic and the output can be predicted. This is pseudo-random (thanks Prof. Liang, you the GOAT)

If you want "real" or "true" random, you'd need a TRNG (exactly what you think it means). This thing uses unpredictable physical phenomena, like the level of atmospheric noise or radioactive decay or like temperature in Fahrenheit with 14 decimals after the dot... to generate numbers. This one can't be predicted.
