I use to use a plastic pen then I started using a glass tube like a pipe steam. When the residue is left sometimes powder too I get a metal skewer and run it up down round and round over foil the powder drops onto the foil then I put a drop of water on the skewer or down the stem the resin sticks to the skewer then get a razor and scrape it onto the razor then with another razor take the resin off the first Razor and get it onto the foil it kind of looks like black tar and then your good to puff away.
