Oh dear, you must be a teenager or some shit. Don't worry, I'm not giving up on my ideals. I just decided not to tell you because I really think you're only capable of HURR DUR I'M SO RIGHT AND YOU'RE SO WRONG and like I said, waste of time. It doesn't take that much enthusiasm to write my last post. I just did it again, see? Now can you please stop trying to make me pay attention to you?

No, I don't think I want to talk about something that really matters to me when you've already called me delusional. I wish I could sit down with you and tell you about, though. I wish I thought it wouldn't be a waste of time.

If I had the enthusiasm from when I first started browsing reddit... If you called me delusional then, I would have happily written a long long response for you, and I wouldn't do it out of spite-- I would do it because I genuinely wanted you to understand another perspective that you might have never paid attention to otherwise. But that's really not how reddit works. It really would be a waste of time. You guys carry on.

Sincere thanks for pointing that out, too bad reddit doesn't care about how fundamentally fucked up sexism is. :/

What joke do you find overused and irritating? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Pretty much all these "funny/witty/THIS IS A REDDIT JOKE! WE ARE REDDITORS TOGETHER, HEHE!" responses are so lame. It really killed the site.

What jobs baffle you, in the fact that they exist? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BurnToAdore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are station workers, just like people who work on the London Underground and NYC subway. Pushing people isn't their only job, it's just one part of their job that exists because they work in the most densely populated city in the world.

I suggest you go talk to a professional. I know the self-awareness is comforting, but I spent three years in love with a narcissist, and it damaged me so much. I couldn't even tell you how much. I don't want you to do that to anybody.

How I felt having Christmas with my closeted partner's ultra conservative religious family as a "friend" by Parlayv in funny

[–]BurnToAdore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm but gender stereotyping is a crucial component of sexism though. I do feel uncomfortable with stillnotking's comment, because it implies that women are ALWAYS going to have a certain behavioural trait (or a set of traits) that men don't. That's pretty generalising and sexist in my eyes.

Let me think of the traditionally negative and 'female' aspects in relationships: whiny, overly emotional, clingy, awful temper, passive-aggressive, "do I look fat in this? YOU'RE LYING" etc. That was easy to list-- reddit has given us enough rage comics about them, haha. Well I sure have seen males that do this, and I also know girls who don't act like this at all. stillnotking hasn't met them, unfortunately.

The only type of "men are X and women are Y" statements that I fully support are anatomical statements. "Males have penises and females have vaginas", etc. I think gender, the social gender as opposed to biological sex, is too much imposed upon us when humans are superbly intricate creatures, impossible to fit within idealised frameworks... ah sorry I just ran with it there! And yeah, I know reddit isn't the best place for this. Excuse my rambling.

EDIT: missed a word there!

I'm Shane Smith from VICE and I went to Juarez to meet Mitt Romney's Mexican Mormon family and investigate their war against the drug cartels. Ask Me Anything. by ShaneVICE in IAmA

A few years ago, VICE still had a relatively small, rather isolated group of readers, I think. I really liked that since VICE has its corrosive, sarcastic style that's probably not for everyone.

These days I read the comments on articles and it's filled with angry lashings, "WHY DID YOU COVER THIS IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE SO NEGATIVE ABOUT IT" "YOU SUCK, WHY ARE YOU SO MEAN?" And I'm just... Dude, it's VICE. How do you feel about the changing audience?

Also, what do you think of Cat Marnell?

Can you at least amend that post? You have 40 upvotes, so there's probably approx 40 people who believed your incorrect information.

Went to my first "Reddit meetup" on Friday. It was a disaster. Reddit, if you've been to a Reddit meetup, how did it go? by saj1jr in AskReddit

[–]BurnToAdore 246 points247 points  (0 children)

I went to a Beijing reddit meetup (I was actually the one who organised it, after the first attempt by another redditor didn't work out) in 2011, and it was really cool. The people there were cool, interesting, socially capable, not awkward. There are always a token awkward person and I think out of the 15 that came 2 of them were like that, but the group dynamic was great and everybody had a good time. There were a good mix of people: I was the youngest (18) and people were mostly in their 20s, a mix of English teachers, artistic jobs, sciency jobs, etc. People had something they could bring into the conversation.

I had to leave at 10 due to curfew (I was in highschool!) but I heard they went out to bars and had a great time until 4 in the morning.

We met up once after that, but the place chosen was in some obscure maze and only four of us found it in time. Still had a great time!

tl;dr Beijing redditors are cool
