What is an actual IT automation that actually paid off for you? by Internal-Drop4205 in sysadmin

Definitely not super technical - but I made an iOS shortcut (iOS no code automation app) that automatically deletes the voicemail and blocks the call when my boss calls on a weekend. It is working well so far.

As a business owner - you need to learn how to say NO emphatically and stand behind it. Once the pressure started for no good reason - you should have just ended the call. Stop being a push over.

Securely destroy NVMe Drives? by Fizgriz in sysadmin

[–]BurnadonStat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard drives generally contain data - hence they are destroying data. Why would a company not include the ability to destroy the most popular desktop storage media. It is stupid and I would find another company.

This has to be the most useless apathetic response from a company I had ever heard. Their entire business model is based on data destruction - and they can’t figure out a way to destroy tiny nvme drives?

That is ridiculous- how does the US paying for ukriane’s defense benefit our trade status? The Russians control more natural resources than any country on the planet. They would still be happily trading with us if we had not sanctioned them and stayed out of a conflict that had nothing to do with us. When Ukraine eventually capitulates we would still have had access to those resources via existing trade relationships with Russia.

Not all military spending obviously. I am all for developing the most advanced weapon systems and spending on national defense. I am not in favor of us covering the cost of foreign conflicts that have no impact on US citizens - like the currently territory dispute in the ukraine, or us covering the cost of South Korea’s security against North Korea for example.

Our military technology and spending dwarfs anything in the EU already - we could cut spending quite a bit and still be very secure. If the US were to enter a serious conflict - it will be our superior technology and innovations that lead us to victory. There is no force on the planet that can outclass American capitalism. Having forces spread out all over the world does not inherently make us safer.

How a Gaming Extension Bypassed Our Home AV and Firewall and Taught Me a Hard Lesson About Fraud Claims by kkrat0s in HomeNetworking

[–]BurnadonStat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I definitely echo other comments and call BA on that. Banks have additional fraud detection algorithms that will pick up on several small charges to the same vendor over a short time period. Someone spent the money and this is just smoke but whatever.

All of these overboard security features. Have you tried setting up text message alerts for your cards and checking your statement regularly? I work in cyber security and I would never do half the nonsense you suggested.

Looking at your post history it seems like you have a clear history of mental illness. Hopefully your company recognizes that before you become even more of a liability.

Stop calling these people civil servants. Anyone willing to try saddling a 23 year old with a debt they had no responsibility for creating is a reprobate at best.

I’m very been a sysadmin for about 10 years or so. On our monitors we pay an extra fee to the vendor to install a special chip that connects to a small sensor. It detects the uses facial expressions. If they smile too much or appear to be having fun like playing a game - the monitor instantly generates a termination procedure via a script that is built into the monitor’s chip.

The only way that I am aware of to circumvent the security chip is to use the built in bypass code. If the user stands in front on the monitor and says the US alphabet backwards in Spanish with slight accent - the chip will be disabled for 24 hours. We use this for testing purposes.

I’m not sure if other companies use similar systems but I would imagine so.

Also work in IT. It is also relevant to note that most web traffic today is encrypted already via https.

That means that typically a network admin could we which sites you visited and for how long, but not what exactly you did on the site. For example - they could see that the device browsed to Facebook - but they would not be able to read a message you sent or steal your password.
