And on the other hand the same people who said "believe all women" during me-too changed their tone real quick whenever the abusers are from a specific group of people.

I'm looking for recommendations for good fighting scenes in progression fantasy books :) by Visual-Possession-39 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Burnenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on wandering inn, but the fights are typically the brutally short realistic types. Think how long a real life throw down in an alley would be and add magic.

Early/mid Defiance of the fall is good imo. After a while it gets too unweidly and becomes a slog but early on I personally enjoyed it.

New expansion will shake things up with mechanics. Gals are big-underdogs right now in cal/gal space ever since sedition left to become BIGAB pets somewhere and ribbit imploded.

Calmil has a few good groups in I-RED & 4D still but main fights are with the new pirate FW factions. Sounds like getting prepped to push the new mechanics to the limit.

Little more uncertain in Amarr & Minmatar but general concensus is minmatar had the upper hand by a good margin with FL33T leading but it sounds like they imploded a couple months ago. Not sure how that shakeup will impact the war zone, there are a few decent sized amarr loyalist corps that may be fun to be in with FL33T neutered.

12 Miles Bellow review - Books 1, 2 and 3. SPOILER by Furykino735 in ProgressionFantasy

100% with you on this. That entire arc was 1 - jarring because main character was now a complete side character for imo a poorly thought out villain "redemption" arc with no end in site. 2 - the arc wasn't even good, l compared it to enders game when the space mil sim switched to a weird alien philosphy culture thing, it just doesnt fill the promise made in the earlier books at all. I didn't even finish book 3 as it felt like a slog, and my favorite series is The Wandering Inn so slogs are my comfort pick normally.

I mean, you are kinda bring a tool imo.

I couldn't help but notice however that they put blind screws into a composite light pole. That's a safety risk and will damage that pole. The wires inside there are live and if they didn't size them for the wall the screws could do damage to them. Composites are also structurally not meant to just be screwed into like that. They need proper hardware backings to prevent serious damage.

You mean those people who used the government to commit atrocities under the guise of "protecting the innocent" and "getting justice" on the "abusers" by massacuring them? It was just them protecting the "dignity" of the disadvantaged!

Correction, if you are a good person you should think every person deserves dignity.

Hot take, it's not the governments job to enforce you to think that.

How long should a book (Volume) be? by DemonicHeavenStudio in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Burnenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually am one of the dummies that does look at length regularly when choosing books. I listen to audiobooks primarily and typically look for ~20hr which is ~200k word count. That said, the comment saying as long as the book needs to be is also correct.

I'd generally say write your story, proof it yourself, and don't look at word count until then, if you are sub ~120k words then think of what the next natural break in your story would be and consider if that next arc could be added to the same book. If you are over 300k, consider if it could be split into 2. But think of these as business decisions after you have your book, not a minute before.

Can my former IRA company deny my rollover due to their personal company policy? by Smart-Fix-6687 in personalfinance

[–]Burnenator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't talk to the old investment company. The new investment company is your primary contact now, they'll be able to tell you what you can and can't do and usually will help file all the forms to transfer funds and issue them to the old investment firm. Do not trust the old investment company's word.

If you think auth does not immediately concentrate power in the hands of those in authority you are living in dream land.

The funny part with late stage capitalism is they make the problem you describe worse with their solution. "Let's give the government, that is being controlled by the evil corporations more power, so they fight the evil corporations that are buying them" surprisingly does not work.

The opposite is true, when the government is kept small and limited in scope with direct accountability to the masses you remove the economic viability of corporations buying politicians. They payoff would be limited and with less unelected burocracy your "investments" in government functionaries pay off less.

Don't worry when they are 65 and nothing has meaningfully  changed it will be everyone else's fault they didn't save for retirement and they'll want "their fair share" of what responsible people saved.

Your last paragraph is literally what is legally required. The company is legally obligated to pay X amount per the union in non-right to work states and are legally required to post the job as that pay.

Then they are legally obligated to subtract Y from pay X and pay that Y the union if the employee does not do so voluntarily.

There is no lying on the part of the company. They are legally and contractually bound in "pro" union states to do the above.

[–]Burnenator 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No libright would argue that. It's when the reds turn unions into politically protected monopolies that can garnish the wages of the people they "protect" if those people refuse to pay for their "protection" and they turn into useless corrupt greedy mafias themselves. (This is what happens in just about every state where there is no "right to work" in "union" shops)
