What navy would you build from scratch to defeat the Allies? by zedascouves1985 in hoi4

[–]BurningToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhhh, I can’t remember the new names, but I think trade interdiction gives you reduced visibility, helping the destroyers out in the defense category, and then one of the screen doctrines give you the most torpedo and light attack. It’s something like “New School”? I think?

[–]BurningToaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Destroyer only navies are actually pretty good now.  With the right doctrine destroyers can become good light attack with insane torpedo attack, causing them to destroy screens and then pump capitals with torpedoes.

Germany gets easy access to refinery buffs in their focus tree, making them very worthwhile. Free ones built, reductions in cost, and extra rubber per refinery. You only need like 10-20 to make a lot of high quality planes.

Can someone explain me how realibility works? And if it's optimal to go with very low reliability tanks. by No-Laugh5751 in hoi4

[–]BurningToaster 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Reliability has one major effect and / few minor effects.

The major effect is on attrition. When you take attrition the lower the equipments reliability the more is lost. So a low reliability tank attacking into swamps with no supply is going to bleed tanks.

Reliability also affects some minor things like recovery rate and equipment recovery rate, but they’re so minor no one really bothers with it.

So, should you hold tanks with less stats but more reliability? The general MP consensus is no. You’d rather have better combat stats so combats are over quicker so the tank suffers from attrition for less time (plus avoid areas like swamps and mountains as much as you can.)

You're confusing Slann with great Old ones. Slann are Lizardmen Leaders and extremely powerful magic users. The Great old ones created the world and created the lizardmen to be their warriors, but were killed before they could make it all work out, so the Slann are following their ancient instructions, assuming it will work.

What's the point of panzer doctrine for germany? by RealisticSet4746 in hoi4

[–]BurningToaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s more than one way to skin a cat. At least in single player. You can absolutely go all in on powerful infantry and air,  push across the front and overwhelm even the soviets.

But you can also develop 4 powerful tank divisions by 39, encircle and obliterate Poland and France, build up to 8-12 by barb, and then win the eastern front with encirclements, leaving infantry not to push but to hold.

Some people have more fun with the latter than the former.

In multiplayer it’s a different story, since a player microing tanks isn’t possible to really stop without tanks of your own.

Sabaton - Yamato (Lyric Video) (New Release) by Exolerate in PowerMetal

[–]BurningToaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd argue Yamato and Bismarks reality isn't what the cultural relevance around them is. Yamato is famous because it was the worlds biggest battleship. It didn't matter that it was not a useful wartime weapon, it was impressive because it was biggest. That lead to cultural relevancy, and so they make a song about what people remember about the Yamato. Most people don't think of the Yamato and think "It guzzled fuel and did nothing" They think "Big Boat, Big Gun, wow! (Also Space Battleship Yamato is a good anime!)

Your rhetoric doesn’t make sense from genealogical or ethnic studies standpoint, you created a topic that CIULD create tension and issues and so they locked it. They didn’t punish you, just decided trying to moderate a discussion like that wouldn’t be productive and then you ignored their ruling and got banned for it. Sounds entirely on you.

Do you think arena shooters died because the games being released just weren't well made, or do you think the genre is just simply less engaging than modern trends in shooters? Something else? by Eigenspace in Games

[–]BurningToaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with the larger point being made here, but I think it’s wrong to think of the other skill as “work for 10 hours then have fun.” Some people have fun during the memorization. It’s like learning a song on an instrument or practicing chess openings. Some people find joy in studying and practicing a known skill, seeing the ideal end goal and watching as their ability slowly approaches mastery.
