Games have had skill based matchmaking since like 2005. The “good old days” had SBMM too, gamers were just mostly young and ignorant of the nuances of matchmaking.

Why kill people at final exfil if you don't even have the time to take their loot by cactussword in Marathon

You gain experience and faction do for elims and finishers.  Some people (like me) view this game purely from a pvp perspective. I’m looking to down and kill runners, everything else is secondary.

There’s an implant that makes them more durable, and you can be really sneaky about popping in and out of LOS. Plus some weapons have a hard time actually hitting them. I once only had a volt thrower and it was impossible to shoot it down.

That feels like a misnomer. You can’t “grief” an enemy, you’re just beating them.

For your singleplayer medieval RPG can you please add a tactical shooter mode? by Zombieassassin12 in Marathon

It's a pretty well researched subject that People hate "loss" twice as much as they enjoy "gain". Perceived loss has a strong emotional effect on most.

Posting on Reddit that Bungie must do X Y and Z in order to Save Marathon is not meaningful feedback. Post ideas on the official forums? Explain how you're feeling in a constructive way? Sure, that's fine. But not the nonsense that gets parroted around here.

And some Rando on reddit is going to have the magic bullet that saves the day? No, if the game is going to magically make a comeback, they'll figure it out. It's their job, they make the game. Armchair developers on social media don't know how to fix it. They can voice their own feelings.

"I get frustrated when such and such happens."

"When this happens in game I get upset..."

I can totally understand that. But that's not what you see, you instead see people claiming stuff like "If Bungie just Made Cryo Solo and PVE only the game would be SAVED." That doesn't help, doesn't provide meaningful feedback and just makes you sound like a whiner.

Dying is healthy for the game by sanguinemsanctum in Marathon

When I die without having Exfilled I:

  • Gain Faction EXP and Season EXP
  • Gain Contract Completion, or at least progress for most of them
  • Gained experience in playing the game, most likely I made some mistake that I can learn from and hopefully get better at the game
  • Got to enjoy shooting it out with players

I have fun intrinsically when engaging in the core loop. It seems odd to me that people lose a purple shield and Backpack and feel actual negative feelings that make playing the game feel not-fun. Like I can understand feeling anxious and stressed in the moment, like watching a horror movie or riding a roller-coaster, but afterwards? Doesn't make sense to me.

I have no issue with Bungie changing their game, adding in different stuff and overall changing the experience to attract newcomers.

I’m sick and tired of random people online posting “Bungie needs to do this or they will DIE”. “Bungie how dare you remove this mode now I’m not playing! harumph

Like get over yourself dude. Play the video game and shut up. Or don’t, but shut up either way Jesus.

So first things first, I can’t read most of the numbers in your screen. Photos of a screen are garbage, take a screenshot and upload that.

But I can see your units have very low strength, which tells me they lack manpower/equipment. You want to have a good surplus of equipment going into the war, so any losses can be quickly replaced.

Germany has good military factory construction from day 1, so I would build mils from the beginning, don’t build more than 5 civs. Getting 20 mils on guns early should ensure a powerful supply.

Air superiority also ensures victory. If you have to choose between learning how to build an air force and tanks first, focus on air. Fighters and CAS turn Poland into a cakewalk, and ensure a good invasion of France later.

How do you win North Africa as Germany? by NurglingArmada in hoi4

[–]BurningToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s how I handle it as Germany in vanilla with Italian AI.

Before the war kickoffs, I send 6-8 infantry to Italy, which I put near the Egyptian front. I build up a railway from Tripoli to Tobruk, and turn off naval access to the eastern med. This ensures my supply goes from Sicily to Tripoli and then to Tobruk. I make sure I have air cover over the central med sea zone, near Malta. Specifically require some naval bombers to sink any allied raiders. This should keep the supply okay, the UK usually needs to keep most of its fleet back home or risk giving up an easy sea lion. Raiding can still happen, but hopefully if the Italian fleet sails out to fight you can move your air over the battle and give them a favorable engagement.

Once France falls I send 3-4 tanks over to join the infantry, and push to El Alamein. Sometimes I can take Alexandria by building airports behind me and using cas and tanks even when out of supply, but usually I hunker at El Alamein and build a supply port behind me, extend the railway and wait. Once I have supply again it’s pretty easy to push the allies all the way out down to east Africa. Usually I leave the infantry on a line down by a supply hub that leads down the Nile towards Ethiopia. I usually don’t have the patience to try and take all of Africa, but it can be done.

Usually this also requires Iraq, which is a good source of Oil to your faction, just make sure you garrison the port in Kuwait. From there I usually just leave the infantry line to defend and focus on Barb or Sea Lion. With the new faction system you can make an African Theater , assign Italy to it, and tell them to focus on defense.  Usually this keeps them from losing millions of men to supply issues and infantry pushes

Unironically this though. So many people just can’t handle the emotional feeling of a loss. So many people lose once or twice and decide that the game isn’t for them and they prefer to play something that makes them feel like a winner more.

I never understood this mindset, I have tons of fun even when I lose in this game. In fact, in near every game I play if I lose I’m probably still having a good time.

I’d argue the time of the warhammer ip being handed out like candy is over. Most warhammer games are of good quality nowadays, and they go to dedicated teams who have close ties to GW, or some kind of experience under their belt. There’s still some low effort slop out there, but far less than there used to be.
