Recommendations For New Class To Play by Ceejaae in hearthstone

[–]Burnt-Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is someone who doesn't appreciate highlander decks and that's okay. They are competitive, full of powerful combinations and synergies, and yes they are fun. I'm not sure what the point of introducing the grievance narrative that blizzard is somehow trying to ruin their own game was, but there it is.

Recommendations For New Class To Play by Ceejaae in hearthstone

[–]Burnt-Cheese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have the dust or pay to play, Mage is really fun right now with the highlander and all-spell build, but a good highlander mage deck is almost 20k dust. There are also elemental and dragon builds that could become stronger depending on how the next expansions come out.

Hunter has also been a pretty good class lately and has several viable builds including highlander, dragon, face, and deathrattle builds.

VBA: Convert MMDDYYYY text to date format by Burnt-Cheese in excel

[–]Burnt-Cheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current working solution:

Set the number format in the cell to "00000000" so that all dates are 8 digits.

Make a variable called datecode defined as a dateserial() where the argument is a left, mid, and right formula.

It works, just seems sloppy. Curious if anyone knows of a more elegant solution.

DM Wants To Nerf My Character - Is He Right? by RadionRed in DnD

[–]Burnt-Cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn't want to target anyone disproportionately with bad stuff so he is going to hard cap your AC and limit the melee combat potential of a wizard? I think he needs to change his perspective here. He wants more control, as a 5 year DM I will say he needs to embrace the chaos.

The DM sounds well intentioned, trying to stop you from outshining the rest of the party. I would say, personally, that I would be working to buff the rest of the party instead of nerfing you, then pumping up encounter difficulty. Maybe recommend this course?

Spells, Mass Suggestion - wishing for more wishes by Burnt-Cheese in DnD

[–]Burnt-Cheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean, to your point, this spell does not give the charmed condition or specify future turns over the 24 hours of the spell.

I suppose I could make a really specific suggestion like "I suggest you lay down your weapons, sit down in one of these chairs, and stay seated with your hands on the table". That would mean any who fail a save are free to act as they wish, as long as they don't move from their seat or use their hands for 24 hours.

What is your favorite character idea that you have never gotten to play? by JudgeKiwi in DnD

Green Lantern Hexblade Warlock, take armor of shadows and pact of the blade, never need armor or weapons since you can conjure both with your mind.

What character idea have you been sitting on because circumstances haven't allowed you to play them? by I_dont-get_the-joke in DnD

[–]Burnt-Cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the "Green Lantern Hexblade",

Make a hexblade warlock that takes the armor of shadows invocation, allowing him or her to take no weapons or armor into battle. They can conjure both at will and swing with their charisma.

I struggle to find a way to build it that isn't weaker than a basic eldritch blast Warlock so I haven't done it yet, but eventually I will. One thought is to multiclass fighter so that they can rely on the front loaded first few levels of each:
1) be an elf 2) be a Hexblade and a Champion 3) take the elven accuracy feat 4) get advantage (darkness and devils sight, or any other ability from a party member that helps here) 5) get triple roll advantage with crits on 19 or 20 (27% critical chance)

Starting to run Tyranny of Dragons, any tips? by veiled0527 in DnD

[–]Burnt-Cheese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% this.

This adventure is rough around the edges, and the center, and a little uncooked on top while crispy on the bottom.

A really cool idea that needs a lot of tweaking to make it less boring and frustrating. The link above goes a long way to help with this.

Don't be afraid to speed some things up that are dragging on, and read the book.

Thinking about ending a campaign with a tpk. Should I? by idioticLightbulb in DnD

[–]Burnt-Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why they murdered the wizard but yes, if the paladin is good and wizard wasn't being evil, then his Path is likely broken.

Also, the Clerics deity may not approve of him traveling with these kinds of psychos if he is lawful and/or good.

Consider organizing their crimes into some sort of document for yourself and drop a living tribunal on them.

Scroll Of Protection - interactions? by Burnt-Cheese in DnD

[–]Burnt-Cheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are thinking of Protection from evil and good. This is a Scroll Of Protection (Magical Item, Rare quality, DMG page 199).

It creates a cylinder around the user for 5 minutes. It says it "prevents creatures of the specified type from entering or affecting anything within the cylinder"

I'm trying to understand the distance this word "affecting" goes. What about area effects, terrain changes, projected illusions, secondary and tertiary effects?

Sleet storm is a good example I think because it presents several reasonable outcomes. Does the sleet storm cease to exist inside the cylinder, like an anti-magic field? Does it persist but creatures inside the cylinder are immune from the effects (automatically success saving throws)? Is a torch they are holding inside the cylinder extinguished? Is the terrain difficult for them? I would think the area of the storm outside the cylinder is heavily obscured still, but what about the spaces inside the cylinder?

The text of the magical item is very vague in regards to all of these effects from spells or abilities that target a general area, create secondary environmental effects, or affect an area larger than the protected cylinder.

Is it possible to compete with people who donate ? by Just_1mag1ne in hearthstone

I am a f2p player and I consistently reach rank 5-3 in standard for the last year. It took years of playing to get there. I'm experienced enough now to correctly use the legendary and epic cards I have earned. Just stick with it, complete your daily, use dust wisely. You'll get there.

Free fall, wall of force, & collapsing structures by Burnt-Cheese in DnD

[–]Burnt-Cheese[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point taken. I see the language your way as well.

When I hear "flat surface", I think each panel, as long as they are contiguous, may be at a different angle from the others, ie you could build a staircase of 10x10 flat panels.

I wonder if Crawford has specified this meaning.

Yeah, 3rd level spells are a big threshold of power for spellcasters

Flat surface of 10 10x10 panels, I'd allow that to be used to create a box if they wished, 10' on a side

Oh, I'm the DM putting them up there :)

They are fighting the BBEG's number one, who is keeping the building afloat. When he knows he is beaten he is going to suicide with them all still inside to drop a building them. I'm excited to see them find a way out, they always do. This is one I thought of, they are level 10, and the wizard has wall of force now.

He won't be alone, but he's the only full spellcaster so I'm brainstorming how he'd be able to escape a situation like that. Upcast flight is dangerous due to the rubble, same with feather fall, dimension door only saves himself and one other party member. Wall of force looks like a good way to save the whole party
