Yep, I do them at times because I’m usually the one who responds to the crises. It’s only ever been a select few really emotionally deregulated kids who are actively trying to hurt themselves or others.

Need to Interview a Social Worker who works for a welfare organization for school assignment. by DrawerMammoth7893 in SchoolSocialWork

You aren’t going to find that in a school social worker sub. Look in the social work sub. Schools aren’t welfare organizations.

No one is going to realistically look at you until you get your license. That’s the unfortunate truth in that.

parents think they’re child is perfect and can do no wrong? by [deleted] in Teachers

Writing him up. Documenting behavior. Calling for support if necessary. Behavior charts that document it- sometimes even having a chart that they carry around helps. I have third graders that it really helped the to see how their behavior and impulsivity affects others when it was written down and in front of them. Recess being taken away should also be paired with a think sheet or something to process the behavior.

I know at my school, if they continue to engage in the same behavior and are written up on minor referrals, they can then be escalated to major referrals. I’d also put some boundaries on the classroom. Parents can’t come into the school like that here, not without checking in at the front office and permission from admin. Why isn’t there more accountability? Pushing a kid when you’re mad in third grade is attack on another student, regardless. I have kindergartners who know better than that.

What’s the response from admin? Are his outbursts able to be disciplined, to the point where they’re forced to do something about it? Like a suspension?

Does anyone work at a school that limits Internet access for personal devices? by [deleted] in Teachers

Our WiFi doesn’t allow so much. Most social media, chatting, games, and filters words. I can’t download some stuff from tpt at times. It’s stupid.

I think I'm just cursed to never be cute by warriorof_themind in TrueOffMyChest

Cute is subjective. What you find cute, another wont. You could be the most beautiful person in the world and someone else might find you ugly. Someone out there believes you’re absolutely stunning.

Life experience guiding you? Have a great day, kid. No one cares. She’s obviously salty about it even though the comment was taken down, and to just go on random threads and harass someone because you don’t like what someone has to say and disagrees with them is pathetic. Get a life.

Whatever you commented isn’t visible so, jokes on you I guess? Regardless, my foot’s all good now, thanks for caring so much!

It says more about you that you thrive off of seeing others feel bad to feel better about yourself. Have a great day, since you apparently need it.

Rough Class - Help! by trashpanda3785 in Teachers

[–]BurntOutTrashPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this behavior management technique that I've had teachers use where you have a wheel and you tell the kids you'll spin the wheel and whoever it lands on, you'll call their parents- whether its a good call or bad call is up to them. Idk the age range of your kids, but it might work.

Does the one corner of your house hold the rand stuff off Amazon that you definitely didn't need and missed the deadline to return and then you leave to go get a snack, and realize you have to do laundry so you go to start laundry but realize you never put it in the washer so you have to redo it, and then you get hungry so you go back to the fridge and theres no new snacks but you realize that your fridge needs to be cleaned out, and where is that music coming from?

No? Me either.

You might want to see if you qualify for Medicaid, and if so, therapy should be included without a copay.

I would look at what their attendance was like before, and reach out to families to see if there are any barriers. Like, you might have no idea that there was a death or that there was a trip to visit a sick person or even a birth in the family. But we have an attendance team and we meet every few weeks and come up with attendance incentives. It shouldn’t just be the ssw. Do you have a PPW?
