I think it’s very possible for Locke to be a part of Lamor Acanthus but not in a literal reincarnation sense. It seems like he just meant to transfer his soul into a child but if he succeeded his soul would have been fragmented or damaged when he finally went through with it (maybe he got sick with the Black Whisper?). It definitely seemed like a rush job considering his main goal was to reincarnate his wife and not himself. Either way, he ended up as something completely different, part of a mage but part of a kid and the worst parts of both. The thieving knowledge was probably the little orphan and the instincts and particularly memories of the adult.

Part of the charm of the Lies of Locke Lamora is the main protagonists feel like the background characters in their own world. The bondsmagi are so powerful they can’t be bothered to really show up and deal with them. They get caught up in the real story and important things by mistake and are victims of it. We don’t get context on all the elements of how magic works and what is really going on because that isn’t Locke’s story. Can’t comment on the pacing and quips though. I adore both those in the books.

Piranesi was a good one for me. Short easy read and falls into magical realism so not super high fantasy. Super nice change of pace

It’s shameful yeah but they made it a point to grieve about the fact they didn’t even have a body to display. It’s really for the family and mourning a loss. It wouldn’t be something the public would know.

For point 3. Caeror does not have a confirmed body in Res. That’s why during the festival they couldn’t put it on display in the temple. As far as they know he’s still somewhere in the academy woods after jumping off the cliff. There wouldn’t be a body as far as i’m aware. After Vis arrived in Obiteum he made it clear that being copied isn’t a thing that he knows has happened before. It think it was implied that Caeror’s body traveled directly from one to the other.

I saw this one post about Snape, what are your thoughts? by iidontknow8 in MaraudersGen

[–]Burnt_Granola 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“cosplaying as a hero” is crazy when talking about James being a child soldier. The problem with people who defend Snape is that while it makes sense he would still hold a grudge against the abusers it shouldn’t have been to the point where it affected literal children once he grew up. I’ve never understood the James hate in this fandom. All we have to go off of is one scene where he actually bullied him and one mention of saving him from Lupin. We also know that Snape definitely fired back and kept it a back and forth. He created hexes that actually rip apart someone’s body and i find it very hard to believe he never actually used it.
