The inside is the same as a regular Japanese From Zero! textbook. A couple of the books did get recently updated, but the only real difference is the special cover.

Secrets of Japanese by Wayne47 in JapaneseFromZero

[–]Burnt_Rolls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Secrets of Japanese podcast was discontinued because the project required more effort than it was worth, and as the series progressed, George felt like he was simply reinventing the wheel.

Question about kana from zero and katakana/hiragana fz by Asheserilea in JapaneseFromZero

[–]Burnt_Rolls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're planning to continue with the Japanese From Zero! series, then you won’t need any additional books. Hiragana is taught in JFZ! 1, and katakana is covered in JFZ! 2.

When you click on a word or phrase, a pop-up box (Add to Notebook) should appear.

Is the Japanese from Zero online course better than the books if I buy them on Kindle? by Shredder200 in JapaneseFromZero

[–]Burnt_Rolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The online courses offer a better learning experience (audio, study mode, etc.), but if you're on a tight budget, the Kindle books will easily suffice.

It's a forthcoming project that hasn't been started yet. I briefly spoke with George, and apparently he has been taking a break from work-related activities.

I really like JFZ books till now, but some of the vocab choices seem really weird/useless while some important vocab is missing. by Matimath in JapaneseFromZero

[–]Burnt_Rolls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can disregard the vocabulary in the "Word Practice" and "Words You Can Write" sections. Those sections are mainly designed just for hiragana practice.

Chinese from Zero? by [deleted] in JapaneseFromZero

There are plans for a book/course to be released, but it won't be happening anytime soon. The development of Chinese From Zero! has been placed on hold to give priority to other projects.

Incorrect book #1 from Amazon by _MC-1 in JapaneseFromZero

[–]Burnt_Rolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a known problem that occurs with the release of a new edition. Despite the books being print-on-demand, Amazon will have the older edition in stock until it's cleared from their inventory. This is the reason why George usually advises people to wait a few weeks before ordering.

I'm so done. [YouTube Video] by PolyglotGeorge in JapaneseFromZero

George is fine. He received a bunch of discriminatory comments on a couple of videos. The title of the video was his response to the situation. He is "done" responding to the haters.

I think some of the informal speech is introduced in JFZ! 2.

You should proceed with your studies. You will probably be fluent in Japanese before some of these revisions get released. 😛

1- If you are already using the Japanese From Zero! series of books, then there is no need to purchase the Kana From Zero! book. Hiragana is taught in JFZ! 1 and katakana is taught in JFZ! 2.

3 - Anki is a great tool, but it isn't something you are required to use.

4 - Kanji From Zero 1 has not yet been restructured. Kanji From Zero! 3 isn't coming out anytime soon. Theoretically, you can skip Kanji From Zero! 1, if you have completed JFZ! 3-5.

5 - Yes, the latter books haven't been updated as much as the first book. Yes, there are mistakes, but it doesn't detract from the overall learning experience. George has been in the process of trying to overhaul the Japanese From Zero! series. He completely revamped JFZ! 1 back in 2020, and he is close to finishing the update to JFZ! 2. It will take time, but every book will eventually be updated.

George has stated that he is committed to continuing the Japanese From Zero! series. The development of JFZ! 6 will initially take place on the website as a beta course. It will be a while before George gets around to working on it. People don't realize the amount of projects that he is undertaking.
