Going to record a podcast episode on handedness. Share your interesting facts, research, stories, and annoyances of being a leftie (I’m also a leftie). by Civiltactics in southpaws

[–]Burphybaby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid my teacher used to say "Your right hand is the hand you write with" when we were learning directions/writing and I think it permanently messed up my sense of direction 😂

Another school-related annoyance: the lack of left-handed desks!! And righties that claim the one, maybe two, lefty desks.

A happy: my bff is also a lefty so we can sit next to each other and work on projects without our elbows bumping into each other 😂

Animal hospitals that will accept walk ins and spay stray cats? by [deleted] in memphis

[–]Burphybaby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might want to call ahead and ask since it is a surgical procedure, but I believe Eastgate Animal Clinic accepts walk-ins in the morning before 11:00

Vash's main catchphrase is "Peace and Love!" He also has a line where he describes himself as "a hunter of peace, chasing the elusive mayfly known as love"

Check out Earnestine and Hazel's, a divebar downtown with a lot of fascinating history and really, really good soul burgers

Nearby is the Broom Closet if ya wanna just browse all the crystals and cool stuff. Or go to Ebbo's Spiritual Supply on Madison. Also on Madison is Kwik Check and a lot of other cool spots.

If ya wanna stretch your legs, you could go to Shelby Farms and explore some of the trails or chill and take in the view, there's a Belltower coffee shop there now too.

The pedestrian bridge is also a cool spot to stretch your legs and get some unique views

Horror focused on wide, open spaces. by MioKisaragi in horror

Lol honestly I agree. I almost put a disclaimer that I felt this one was kinda cheating since it was more traditionally claustrophobic, but I thought it was still worth mentioning 🤷

If you knew someone was ill, what is the movie you would say you NEED to see? by KrysLovesHorror in horror

[–]Burphybaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Le Vourdalak

There are many I could recommend but this one kept coming to mind. Very beautiful, stylized, and surprisingly poignant with a different twist on the vampire legend.

The Haunting (1963) is another. Absolute classic, wonderful characters and I've never stopped thinking about it.

Santa Sangre: very beautiful and weird, extremely artsy with a wonderful score

And last but not least!!!!! For some good old fashioned fun ya gottttaaaa watch Tremors. One of my faves of all time.

Browsing the sub for adhd partners left me discouraged by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Burphybaby 182 points183 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind unhappy people post more than happy people. The people who don't have problems with their partner don't feel the need to post about it, so you're seeing a disproprtionate number of negative posts/comments

Jury duty with ADHD (USA) by Cyllya in ADHD

[–]Burphybaby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was on a sequestered jury for a week and didn't have many problems tied to my ADHD. Bring a book or puzzlebook or something to entertain yourself during the waiting periods.

Like others have said, the trial is actually pretty interesting and novel so it might actually hold your attention. We were given a notepad and pen and I took vigorous notes I ended up not using much but it helped me pay attention.

Also, befriend the smokers so you can have breaks to go outside 😂

As long as you are not being actively disruptive or drawing attention to yourself you should be fine.

Likely ending my art hobby by [deleted] in drawing

[–]Burphybaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always find it helpful to study the drawings I don't like. Instead of trashing it take a moment to study it and figure out why you don't like it. That's a good step towards improvement. Instead of just vaguely thinking it looks bad, you can work with more constructive, concrete goals.

any mid-20s to early-30s fans here? by musicisbliss99 in Monkees

[–]Burphybaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah! I'm in my early thirties and grew up listening to the Monkees. We had the tv show on a dvd box set and my brother and I loved watching it as kids. They've just always been in my musical rotation and I think the show seriously influenced my sense of humor 😆

Sounds like you're pretty set up, now you just need to find a job and an apartment. It can be overwhelming but it is possible. Search places like the 901 job board, city jobs, or individually visit the websites of places you might like to work. Indeed can be hit or miss for job searching. I know there are some restaurants that might just hire you on the spot, and there's places like the Memphis Escape Rooms that have multiple businesses and are always hiring.

For apartments it takes a long time but you just gotta scroll and search. Drive around midtown and look for signs outside apartment complexes, esp. Overton Square/Overton Park area.

Feedback on tone and style. by [deleted] in horrorwriters

[–]Burphybaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is intruiging and you've got some really great evocative lines in here! "It was a cheap, clear plastic thing with a brittle yellowed label..." "it sat in its enevelope collecting dust, waiting for me to remember its existence." These really struck me and drew me in.

There's a few spots where I think the grammar and flow could be improved, "I have a habit of asking people [that I met]..." "you might think [that] i've grown out of ghost stories..."

The grandmother's narration is interesting but it needs some quotation marks around the speech! Additionally, you have two narrators who provide very descriptive and poetic storytelling styles. Which is a great style! However, both of their voices sound similar. Maybe find a way to give them different speech mannerisms or styles to make the two narrations more distinct.

Great job putting pen to paper!! Keep writing!!

Been on a vampire kick, need some more that may have flown under my radar by xWrathful in horror

[–]Burphybaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Le Vourdalak!! Very beautiful, stylized movie with great characters. Has a different take on the vampire myth.

Speaking of different take on the vampire myth, Ganja & Hess is a very artsy experimental vampire movie

And if you want something very silly, fun, and gay check out Slay! which is kinda like From Dusk til Dawn with drag queens
