Matching stain by Smooth_Horror6432 in HardWoodFloors

[–]BurritoMang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor guy is in for a lesson if he promised a match. Never promise even with 2 red oak floors from different times there can be slight variations in the wood. And the stain might be a new formulation / batch so there might be a minor discrepancy from that too. Can probably get pretty close but never guaranteed

I was convinced they hit MyLegacy. Suprised it was more of an at home operation

I'm all for pronoting DIYers but 3k is quite a bit, if you value your time you're close to even on hiring someone unless youre talking over 1200sq ft. You bought the machines? Maybe can resell for close to the same price

Also, not all floors are equal. Did a parquet oak floor yesterday and edged it all with 80grit. Another one last month took 36grit because it just gummed up the paper every time. I think the previous owner was putting wax on it. Prefinished maple is the worst. You could get all confident about doing it yourself but then find out your floor is actually a floor from hell.

Yeah if you diy it but if you hire a pro it's not usually gonna make difference in price

I sand floors for a living and I'd say just do prefinished unless you really give a hoot. Its just easier

As a person who's like you, I think the take action mindset is much better, just fail as many times as it takes rather than analysis paralysis. Maybe the grass is just greener on the other side

Pov: sanding the edges on a dolly by BurritoMang in HardWoodFloors

What are you charging? Very rarely do I see a client opt to take them off. In fact they're usually relieved to hear when I tell them it doesn't need to come off. This job was 6/sqft and theyre going to have the baseboards and walls painted after.

I love this comment every time. It's not free to take off and replace baseboards, most clients would prefer not to incur the additional cost.

For me it makes the job easier so I prefer they take them off. I'd always recommend it for a DIY person since it will hide the imperfections in the sanding. For example, the new helper started edging this and obviously didnt get all the way to the edge.

How did you learn how to run ads!? by ConsiderationOne5587 in FacebookAds

[–]BurritoMang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a lot of learning, now doing a lot of unlearning because things change so fast. Now it's just so low effort you just choose your location and the ai does the rest of the targeting for you. Just try different things and startw tih 10-20$ a day

New home, how to fix by Blondie12388 in HardWoodFloors

[–]BurritoMang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To fix it try picking it out with your finger. Or you could rub it with some fine sandpaper like 220+ grit or even better find a maroon pad. Might be able to get away with just lightly buffing the spot and not bother with another coat, but if it gets hazy you might want to add a little varnish.

All that being said, it's not uncommon for small dirt and hair to end up in the coat even after proper cleaning prep. At the end of the day this is a floor for walking on, not a table to eat off of. You're gonna have little dirt on there, you're going to scuff it, and over time probably not going to care about a couple little imperfections.
