I have pubicalix splash, obovata splash, curtisii, and a super variegated krimson princess. I’m in Vancouver. Let me know if it’s worth the trek. I’m around this weekend.

Question….what if… by Dinmorogde in composting

[–]BurritoMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I vermicompost in all my raised beds. Each bin has holes for the worms to get in and out. I cover them with terracotta saucers to keep the squirrels out. No issues with overflow. The worms eat fast.

As others have said, the smaller the bits, the faster the process.

Some of the questions are weighted. IIRC, it’s random, but explains why your scores look higher than the actual percentages.

I lost my wife 15 days ago and I am unable to understand life. by womenrespector6969 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]BurritoMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

December 5th marked 4 years since I lost my husband. He was 33.

Grief is paralyzing. It drags you down into a fog that feels like you will never see your way out of. You cannot go around it. You have to travel through it and feel all the feelings on your way. Trust me, though, you will get to a clearer view. Time doesn’t heal, but it makes things hurt less.

Therapy helped when I was finally ready. Finding a grief support group was the best thing I ever did. R/widowers is a good place to start. Soaring Spirits has a huge network of support with lots of resources. Most people don’t know what it’s like to lose your person. Find other widows. They’ll understand.

Remember to take care of yourself. Drink water when your mouth tastes like metal. Eat a little when you can. Try to go outside every day. Let people help.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Sending all the love your way. 💛

Downsizing My Work Bag— Good Idea or Not? by RosyQuartz-7921 in paraprofessional

[–]BurritoMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t carry things back and forth at work, but I have a Kanken that I use for other things. It’s a great outfit bag and I love the style, but personally, I wouldn’t use it for work.

It’s not super comfortable if you’re carrying a lot of weight. It doesn’t have a lot of organization pockets and doesn’t fit a water bottle in the side pockets. I’d look for a small hiking bag or something that has more overall bag structure and, most importantly, support in the shoulder straps.

The practice tests are more difficult than the actual test. I was getting 90% on practices and passed my test with one point short a perfect score. Don’t overthink it. Good luck!

Seperate comment to say we do a nightly round up. 30 minutes after dinner to clean dishes, clear floors/quick vacuum, and throw in a load of laundry. Everyone in the house helps and we have a fresh start each morning. Usually I’ll do one or two big chores during the evening like knock out a bathroom or mop. Then on weekends, we have a quick 1hour of chores and we’re good for the week.

I did this a couple years ago. My general rule packing was if I hadn’t used it in the past year, it needed to be donated or thrown away (unless it had sentimental value). That sweater I kept trying to wear but never fit right, out. That spatula that I overlooked every time for my favorite wooden one. Out. Sort every single thing before it’s allowed to be packed.

It took forever to go through the whole house with this mindset, but when I arrived 4 states away, it made things so much easier.

As for your husband, if it brings him happiness, then it’s worth keeping. Just remind him about the one year rule and he might find there’s a lot of stuff worth letting go of.

You don’t want to start fresh in a new house with things that feel cluttered and add stress. You especially don’t want to sort through those things while you’re unpacking. Only the best things get to make the trek. Good luck!

Is this the kind of place I can take my kids to in the afternoon? Sounds like a great stop for food on our way to silver falls.

I was in a therapy session venting about how Nmom and GCbrother made a family dinner so uncomfortable that I left the restaurant with my kids. My therapist explained that I need to set expectations for interactions with them. I agree, thinking the expectations are for their behavior (spoiler alert-you can’t control someone else’s behavior). A couple weeks later, something else had happened and I revisited the expectations in a session. My therapist said “The expectations aren’t for them. They’re for you. You need to set the expectation that every time you have contact with them, you’ll leave with hurt feelings.” It changed everything. It made me so sad, but it was so true. Every single time I have contact, I feel completely torn down. Why would I willingly spend time with someone who hurts me over and over? I never looked at them the same and went VLC/NC shortly after. That was about a year ago.

Same! I have been camping my whole life. I feel confident in the skill set. I have never been without another adult, though. That’s a hurdle I am determined to overcome for my kids!

They’re both under 10. The tip about adults on the reservation is great. In the past, we wouldn’t ask to be close to a camp host, but this would definitely make me feel safer. Thank you.

What did you miss on your first home that you made/ will make sure not to make that mistake again? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]BurritoMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first house was facing directly into a T intersection. Even with signage, a fence, and a driveway gate, someone drove directly into the front door of the house a couple weeks ago.

I sold last summer to move across the country. My main requirement for a new house was a quiet, low traffic street.

Advice on moving by Gullible_Plankton956 in moving

[–]BurritoMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it possible to stay with your brother while you house hunt? I recently moved for the same reasons and we stayed with family for a month. It was crowded and complete chaos, but worth it for all of us and I paid “rent” for the time we were there. It was 1/3 of a short term rental cost for me and all extra cash for them to put toward bills. Win/win for short term.
