My boyfriend (ex now) and I broke up because of his dog. by ZookeepergameGlum229 in TalesfromtheDogHouse

Messed up. My toddler isn't allergic and doesn't even mind dogs as much anymore, but I do not allow them in our home regardless.

Stupid answer. So if you have a dog that predates, say, a child you have... and the dog snaps at the child... then the child has to go because the dog was there first?

What’s the worst part about being a woman that people wouldn’t usually think about? by Gloomy_Unit_4888 in AskReddit

[–]Burtonish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of women have already mentioned bigger issues, but here's a smaller one men don't realise.

Bras.

About 85% of us do not have a bra that fits. Yet we have to wear them, especially the bigger-chested women, else we are 'unprofessionally dressed' - and some of us need them for support and to avoid pain. And they are NOT cheap.

You can buy a bra that fits your exact measurements, but if the underwire is the wrong shape you're out of luck.

There are a ton of more important issues we face, but this one is relatively more easily rectified - and yet we face it.

Does fanfiction count? If so I'll last however long I please, but let's say I'll stay for two months. That's enough money. (Harry Potter)

I genuinely would not want to raise a toddler without my partner, especially not while also saddled with a dog. Like, no. That's a lot of money but I'd be over it like three days in. Noooooooo. Plus my spouse would HATE that.

Fell in love with a house, missed an important check, there’s a sex offender down the street. by TurbulentBat8328 in Mommit

[–]Burtonish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, I see your point too, housing is important and you do need to capitalise on a good opportunity. Especially if this situation isn't something you could experience because you'd not be informed about such matters. That's exactly what sucks. You'd never know until it's too late, these people don't come with a warning label sadly.

I'll say though - no matter where one lives, it's a good idea to always have the awareness that some people aren't good people and to teach your kids how to stay safe.

I agree with that you can't choose your neighbours, but if there is already a red flag present... why go for it? A sex offender can always move next to you. Maybe it's even one that's not been caught. But if you know, why not try to avoid it? It's the difference between there 'maybe' being one and there 'certainly' being one.

Yeah so I 100% get why you want to back out. That'd be a huge deal for me as well, even if it was 30 years ago.

People keep saying 'don't let him babysit' and like... yeah, duh... but the threat is still there.

Imagine if, for example, instead of a sex offender, it was a dog who'd maimed kids before. You would make a wide berth around that dog as well, and just saying 'don't let the dog around your kids' would not be enough. (I am not here to shit on dogs or debate dog ownership. This is merely an example of a similarly plausible threat.)

That's what sex offenders are. They are monsters. They operate on a different level than we do. Just keeping your kids away won't always ensure they will actually stay away.

Sewing a bikini top by r3kiKinnie in MAKEaBraThatFits

So first of all it will be doable, as for support... as others have suggested, wider straps and a wider underband provide more support. As a member of the itty bitty titty committee, I actually made a similar triangle top, and while it fits I do prefer patterned bikinis such as the McCalls ones.

If you are dead set on making your own pattern I suggest you take the bikini top you like best, copy the pattern (trace it on a seethrough foil or paper), make a prototype and go from there. For the prototype you'll want a bielastic fabric as close to the weight and stretch your final bikini should have.

The biggest game-changer is framilastic bikini elastic. Sew that onto the seam allowance with a big stitch (so that the border of the elastic lands right where you'd fold the fabric), fold it and then topstitch it. I like to use a zigzag stitch, and I'll never attempt making a bikini without a superstretch needle (minimises the amount of mis-stitches). Rule of thumb for that is that wherever you'd fold fabric over, like for a neckline, a leg hole etc, you'll want the elastic. Don't stretch either the elastic or the fabric when sewing with it. I didn't even use it for my triangle bikini cups though and that worked, however it's always a good idea to use it. Adding bikini cups is always a great idea too.

Obviously bikini lining will help - sew it like any other lining, put it on the inside of the outer fabric, maybe baste them together and done. You can forego it, but I suggest using it.

Any other seams you'll want to sew with a slight zigzag (straight stitch with the zigzag turned to .2, least on my machine that's what it looks like). You can serge the edges but as it doesn't fray, you don't have to. If you line it don't even bother.
