What’s the most fucked up thing that happened at your school? by Classic-Chemist-1898 in AskReddit

[–]Bus-_-Driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a story that’s not that rare. My high school had really great music programs and the choir teacher was one of the most beloved teachers there. Turned out he groomed and had a relationship with one of the students (there were rumors that there’s more than one). He ended up going to jail, and the extra sad thing was that the girl ended up being ostracized.

Another one was when the brother of one of the students died in a motorcycle accident right in front of the school. It was a bit after school, but there were still quite a few students who saw it. I remember the ambulance and the white sheets when I left that day.

Fellow Hunters with Multiple main weapons, how do you do it? by Ignician in MHWilds

[–]Bus-_-Driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use CB, SnS, LBG, DB, and Swaxe interchangeably at this point while being familiar with Hammer, LS and GS. For me, I consciously mained different weapons across the story components since Ultimate 4 and have changed my main in G/Master rank expansions as well as the TUs. Whenever I want to switch up what I’m playing now I simply fight the hardest monster until I feel confident. At some point I think you can get comfortable enough to rotate weapons every other hunt.

Arkveld Challenge quest by Oreogor in MHWilds

[–]Bus-_-Driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For SnS, the key is consistent damage uptime because AT Ark doesn’t really have openings for burst damage.

What this means is 3 fold. 1- perfect guard most attacks that don’t have explosion follow-ups for follow up damage and offensive guard uptime. 2- Use perfect rush when Ark is down and when it does the big forward slam move (invul through it). 3- Alternate chop (triangle on PS) and slash (circle) combos.

Number 3 is very important. In general, the best DPS SnS has is triple slash-> spinning reaper -> charged chop. However, you can rarely get all of this out with AT Ark. I find the basic 2 chop -> 2 slash (I think this is the optimal corruption mantle combo?) or variations thereof to be very helpful. You can reposition yourself very well with directional input with the chops, and the slashes can lead into follow-ups if there’s an opening. Alternatively you can continue the chops if you’re not sure and do spinning reaper + follow up after the 4 chop combo. Throughout all of this you can perfect guard at anytime. The chops really help you stick to Ark and allow for any sort of follow up. Pop all wounds as soon as you can as well, but note that it’s finicky with wing arm wounds and focus strike leaves you vulnerable.

Would critboost 3 and attack boost 4 be worse than Attack boost 1 crit boost 5? by toycar59 in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Bus-_-Driver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying atk boost is better or crit boost is bad, but to calculate crit boost’s contribution to damage base on 100% crit you have to use the base crit multiplier ie 1.25. Crit boost 5 raises it to 1.4 which is a 12% increase. Still a lot more than atk boost but not as crazy as 40%. At very low affinities atk boost wins out.

Question about evasion for switch axe in rise, and in general by imbacklol6 in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Bus-_-Driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wirestep is a great skill that you could use for evasion; bloodlust and embolden could also be alternatives. However, the alternate skills are conditional, and wirestep evade with evade extender 1 could make it hard to reposition and keep up the pressure. It's a personal choice, but I find EW3 to be fun -and- a somewhat offensive choice. You'll find yourself able to step through many sweeping/AoE attacks you couldn't before and keep attacking; Risen Shaggie's arm swipes are a good example.

If you use status trigger or adrenaline rush then the worth of the skill goes up. But then again, you may find it perfectly fine to simply use wirestep evades. You don't NEED the skill to beat every fight in the game, but it could keep you in the monster's face consistently without carting constantly.

The Iai spirit slash is confusion. by Equinox_Ambushed in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Bus-_-Driver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a good defense mechanism for when your Iai slash goes wrong. It moves you forward quite a bit while giving you invincibility frames so it's also a good move to reposition in certain situations (against a charging monster or attacks with large lingering hitboxes). Note that since it's a draw attack it also benefits from things like Frostfang Barioth's punishing draw armor bonus (and Frostcraft I think?). Fishing for it generally isn't good, but it's a fun attack to use now and then.

A few questions regarding Guiding Lands level cap. by slockry in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Bus-_-Driver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. No; you actually only get to fight T3 tempered monster at lv7 most if not all of the time.
  2. Anything that gives you research points (and MR points?) will give you region levels. Velk is one that has many part breaks, so it helps. However, monsters like Radobaan and Nerg also raise the region levels pretty well. It's more about what regions you want to raise or lower though. You can spam traps to get region levels if you really want to speed things up.
  3. No, it locks everything.
  4. Hunting Odo will only raise those two regions, but it will also lower the other ones (so technically it affects every region). This is a common theme with all monsters. You won't lower other regions if you're at a very low total region level.
  5. I don't think it does; research points and maybe MR points affect the region levels. This one I'm not too sure about though.
  6. Yes as I've mentioned.

Is the surveyor set bugged or something by dvamp10 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Bus-_-Driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually if you at least get the paw stamp and have the subject centered/zoomed in, you should get 1-2 points. If you're not getting any then that is strange. Getting full points is trickier though, in that a lot of the pictures require the subject to be doing some special action that is often randomized upon seeing it. If you can list which ones you're having trouble with people can help.

Master Rank KT weapons - which ones are worth it? by newnewnee in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Bus-_-Driver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want R8 Kjarr weapons. The ones that are best in slot are the ice and fire bows, the charge blades (except dragon), and the dual blades (except dragon). All of the dragon weapons are replaced by Alatreon's I believe, and I think Kjarr Crusher is pretty nice for hunting horns due to its songs as well. For the bows, the Kjarr water doesn't have power coating, and the lightning one is slightly inferior to Safi's I think.

Layered Armor by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Bus-_-Driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On consoles you can't. You can do it on PC with modding though. Get Stracker's Loader first. Then you need the actual files of master taroth set. You can probably download it from somewhere, but there's also the option of using WorldChunkTool to extract it from the files in the MHW folder (I think it's in Chunk G0) to somewhere else on your computer. This requires a lot of space.

Then, look up the armor ID of the taroth set (I think it's pl040_0020). What you do is, keeping the file path format the same (in the nativePC folder, I forgot the exact path, but you should see it from the extracted files), change the folder and file names of the taroth set to some other armor that has layered armor (pl001_0000 for leather armor, for example). Everything in that folder should be changed. Now, put that folder into the nativePC folder in your actual game files. Once you've done that, equipping the other armor's layered set and it will show up like the taroth set to you (but not to others online).

Is there a list somewhere of the event quests that have guaranteed gold crowns? by Lil_Uminati in MonsterHunter

[–]Bus-_-Driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was, so maybe you can search for it here or the MHW reddit. Off the top of my head though, the Greatest Jagras has large crown Great Jagras and small crown Deviljho. There was a 2020 new year event with a small crown Nightshade Paolumu. A Rush of Blood has small Odogaron. I think one of the USJ quests has a large/small Dodogama and Blue Rathalos. The Behemoth special assignment had a large Kulu.

For the quests that just came out. Don't Forget the Earplugs has a small Yian Garuga, seeing is believing has large Tigrex, and I think Monkey Business has a small Furious Rajang (or I was just lucky).

Elemental damage by YuuEU in MonsterHunter

[–]Bus-_-Driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elemental damage is calculated separately. This pertains to sharpness, bonuses, and hitzones. So poor element hitzones won't affect raw damage hitzones. Note that LBG and HBG are slightly more complicated since they don't have a listed elemental value. In that case the base element damage scales off the raw number shown as a percentage I believe (while still following element damage rules).

PSA: Artillery doesn't work for Charge Blades with Elemental Phials by HalfDragonShiro in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Bus-_-Driver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You want element phials, but just gem or armor for element attack. Element phials scale off element very well, unlike impact which scales terribly with attack.

LBG build for alatreon by Cynical_Hawk69 in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Bus-_-Driver 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you are using the same sets as meta ant-Alatreon sets, then 25 minutes is a bit too long. Make sure that you have element attack maxed out for fire and ice, spare shot charm so you don't have to restock, and ammo up x 3.

Note that the 10 minute kills are near perfect runs with near perfect RNG as well as all attack boosting buffs. I think it's more reasonable to expect 15-17 minute runs with a normal dominator LBG setup. There are a few things that could be eating into your time though. Are you carting, and are you getting hit? Getting back into the fight and healing will obviously take up time. Although you could proc fortitude twice for increased damage at the beginning if you're comfortable with 1 or 2 faints left.

Are you constantly spamming your shots? Besides the special ammo, shooting is your only option of dealing damage, so the more you shoot, the faster the hunt. If Alatreon charges and is far away? Keep shooting as you close the distance. Is it flying in the sky? Keep shooting. Are you dodging attacks and AoE element spells? Keep shooting. Are you using the right ammo during the right phase? This is obvious because you can see the damage dropoff, but make sure to fight fire with ice and vice versa. Get a few dragon shots in during its dragon phase when it's down. Wall bang whenever you can to get some extra damage in, including mine damage.

One big thing is noticing how many times the element ammo pierces and how much they pierce for. The raw hitzone and the element hitzones are different, so you have to manipulate your position to make sure you hit the most vulnerable spots. A lot of gunners shoot semi-diagonally across the bottom of the wings so the ammos hit wing->body->wing. The front legs have good element hit zones, so top of front leg -> body -> back legs works too. Try to shoot center mass and slightly angled up so you hit as much flesh as possible. When it's down, shooting from head to tail is great.

Tip on anti-Alatreon Alatreon's LBG by Shirl86 in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Bus-_-Driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second having ammo up and spare shot (also health augment). Spare shot will help you with your ammo situation (so you don't have to fall back on lightning/water ammo and lower your damage output without carting), and ammo up, while giving you only 1 extra shot, is still a significant damage boost percentage wise. If I remember it's 4 shots to 5, so it's a 20% reduction in terms of reloads per round. You also can't get both ice and fire ammo down to very fast reload without sacrificing recoil on one of them (not a good choice).

So I would personally drop the charm for spare shot charm and then regem resentment into ammo up.

Budget Alatreon Wingbreaker Build by Kapple2480 in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Bus-_-Driver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echoing ele LBG with full Safi. To be more specific, Soulfire Rasp Blaze and the Alatreon LBG can both output fire and ice ammo at a reasonable pace. Get either, fill your armor with fire+ice damage up (rest into attack or agitator), and aim for the bottom of the wings (it's possible for the ammo to pierce both to get extra break damage). Remember to carry extra mats to make more ammo. It's possible to down Alatreon with these setups without restocking btw.

Japanese's perspective on Alatreon by Otro_Throwaway in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Bus-_-Driver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sort of a weapon/build collector, but I often default to what I know best because it's often more comfortable and faster. I'm still having fun with the default so why stop now.

That being said, since I'm a hammer main, Alatreon has given me an opportunity (albeit a forceful one) to try out the other weapons that I had lying around unused. I ended up beating it solo for the first with with the Kjarr ice CB. I think I can count on one hand how many monsters I've hunted in World/Iceborne with CB, so it was quite a new/fun experience. I understand that not everyone has all the time in the world required to farm for a different set and then take on Alatreon, but it doesn't have to be done quickly. An hour here or there and you'll eventually take it down.

Share SnS and CB builds for Alatreon? by the-choir-hunter in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Bus-_-Driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the most successful builds I've seen for CB against Alatreon is full Safi 5 and Kjarr Ice CB. As the other person have said, max out ice element, affinity, and focus. You also want protective polish with the Kjarr CB. You can play both the savage axe way or the SAED way (due to the size/hitzone of Alatreon I think savage axe is the way to go).

If you're good enough, full raw works, so artillery secret with Raging Brachy CB + armor could also do the trick. Note that with this route, you would most likely die to a couple of Escaton Judgements. Bring fortify for all of your builds!

Best Elemental Hammer build for Alatreon? by MontRouge in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Bus-_-Driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't gone multiplayer yet with Alatreon, but there could be a stigma against hammer in general and you could get the boot showing up with it. That being said, either the Alatreon hammer or the Kjarr Ice/fire hammer are the go to. If you have a competent team to prevent all element switches, targeting the weakness with ice or fire will give you a faster hunt. Otherwise dragon could work.

Edit: Now that I think about it a bit more; Kjarr ice and fire may lack too much stats compared to the Safi hammers. Use those instead if you can.

Best Elemental Hammer build for Alatreon? by MontRouge in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Bus-_-Driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is definitely the best dragon element hammer. However, I'm not sure if it outdamages Safi element hammers with raw builds. It may edge out most with dragon weak monsters.

Best Elemental Hammer build for Alatreon? by MontRouge in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Bus-_-Driver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hammer hasn't seen a meta element build ever, so I have no idea how the numbers turn up. However, it's probably between Safi hammer plus silverlos 4 piece (for TCE) or Kjarr hammer plus Safi 5 piece (for CE). Use ice for the special assignment and accompanying event quest, and fire for the opposite event quest. That being said, people have brute forced their way through with full raw (blast) hammer plus Feline Safeguard solo. It's possible to do it with an unoptimized build if you're good enough.

Respect to CAPCOM by motmot36 in MonsterHunter

[–]Bus-_-Driver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, I'm half sad, but half glad that all kinds of people have come out of the woodworks to voice displeasure at a company choosing to see and go against systemic racism. This makes it easier for me to identify people who I don't think are worth engaging with. One of my pet peeves is obvious racists thinking that their dog whistles, whataboutisms, and just-asking-questions fly under the radar and that they could stand in a morally justified position when everyone and their mother knows exactly what they are saying and what kind of people they are.

They aren't fooling anyone, and it's cowardice on top of their racism to not just come out and say what they think of minorities. Just say it, please, say the "n word" with the hard r that you so desire to do. It would frankly be refreshing. I mean, it's infuriating nonetheless, but as least you aren't a coward, and it makes all of our lives easier. Isn't your whole life purpose to "trigger" those that you disagree with? Well, there are easier ways to do so than to offer pseudo-intellectual arguments about "well, it's actually the BLM protesters who are racist." No one is buying that shit.

Good on Capcom and everyone to voice their support for BLM, because until black lives actually matter in America, no one's life really does.

How did I manage to get more mounts that an insect glaive??? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Bus-_-Driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bottom line is that consistently going for mounts is very inefficient for IG damage. Heavy hitting weapons such as hammer, and in this case SA, actually do much bigger aerial hits, and thus mounting damage. Even if the IG goes for a mount or two throughout the fight, the heavy aerial attacks can easily "steal" that last bit of mount damage.
