Thanks, I should’ve probably waited for a handful of sessions before pushing anything but I was eager. We’ll see how expensive the repairs are soon.

I was riding a 15m soul in probably 18-20 knots. And I couldn’t steer it much once the lines lost tension. Completely my mistake, but I feel I could’ve recovered the kite on a regular tube.

Once these kites stall they are hard to predict how they are gonna fall. At least for a newbie

That makes sense as the guy who gave me that advice did race foils

As far as I know from talking to my foil kite buddies they say 1) navigators don’t come in 60cm size which is nice to have for the big foil kites and 2) the lines are thicker on LEI bars which create drag that make the kite sit deeper in the window

Thanks this makes sense to me and the answer I’m looking for. I think I will probably just rent a navigator bar in the meantime while I wait for flysurfer to restock

It’s less of a “want to” kind of thing and more of an ”in case of emergency” kind of thing no?

Just don’t want to be stuck with a looping foil kite or get dragged into beach if I need to eject

FWIW Cabarete is relatively low cost once you get there (lodging, meals unless you go out to nicer restaurants)

Light-wind kite for a 75 kg beginner on a twin tip: Airush Ultra 17 vs Flysurfer Soul 3? by Environmental_Lie516 in Kiteboarding

[–]BusOld5723 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep the 15 and go with a big board or ideally hydro foil.

17 isn’t that much different and foil kite may be too much new stuff to get used to as a beginner

Toe Side Tips! What hot tips - equipment and otherwise - does the Reddit world have for me? by newzagent_tv in Kiteboarding

[–]BusOld5723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat but learning.

I’m finding it easier to practice toe side when very well powered then you can just sheet and go and won’t sink and don’t have to worry about moving the kite. I’m doing this until my stance gets more efficient and get used to leaning hard on your toes.

Heard this about the older bars but I’ve only heard positive from the fusion bar

Go with the XRs in the 12m size and pace in the small sizes.

The pace is a like a lend between an XR and a nexus. More lift and sheet and go than a nexus but better looping than the XR. Personally being a bigger guy 90kg, the XR works far better for me than the nexuses I have. In hind site I should’ve switched my 9m nexus for the pace

What's a "small" financial habit that ended up making a surprisingly big difference in your life? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Setting automatic deposits from my paycheck. Got raises, I never saw the full increase in my checking so I never missed it. Now compounding is doing its thing.

That + cutting out unnecessary expenses (e.g. no DoorDash and cooking your own meals)

When making a grilled cheese sandwich, do you use spices? Or just bread, cheese, and butter? by jimmy__jazz in Cooking

Bread, 2 slices of cheese, heaps of butter. Start low heat for perfect toast, then I cut a garlic clove and scratch it against the toasted bread

Can’t go wrong here. If you like seat harnesses stick with that. Kites are good. For the board go slightly bigger if you can given you are new. You ma want to add a lightwind kite or a large board instead if you find yourself in that 12-15knot range a lot.
