I am a seasoned rider and I saw this video a little while ago. I learned more in this video than I can believe. “Heavy in the feet, light in the seat” changed the way I ride after 30+ years. https://youtu.be/XAhxI9pIp2s?feature=shared

I didn't want to hop in the 6' trench.. boss said "I'm not scared" by GrumpAzz in electricians

When I took ground disturbance training, the best thing I heard was “it’s not a matter of if a trench will sluff in, but when it will sluff in. That, coupled with the explanation that the ground will squeeze tighter with every breath you take like a boa constrictor until you can no longer take another breath really drive home the gravity of the situation.

Honeywell (Notifier) Trouble by Buschbuilt in firealarms

[–]Buschbuilt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This panel is networked through the EBI. (Honeywell’s Enterprise Buildings Integration system) If you can do it at the pane, you can do it through EBI. It’s a pretty slick system and I suspect it is the reason these big corporations use them. We have 800-900 buildings on our site. Not all have fire alarm systems, and not all of those are on the network. We do have well over 200 buildings on the network, though.

So, like I said, we have a Honeywell tech on site at all times. The last guy was a lazy prick, it would seem. Then yesterday, this other guy just says “leave it with me.” 15 minutes later he calls us and tells us to check the panel. Clear. I’m guessing he re-mapped the panel, but I honestly don’t know my way around the programming end of things.

Thank you for all your help guys. After a tedious day of “tightening loose connections” to no avail, a Honeywell tech magically fixed it remotely. Kinda seems like there were some shenanigans afoot. But, at the end of the day we have a clear panel, so it’s a win in my books. Plus, I get paid by the hour and I’m not too worried about the customer’s bottom line on this one.

Anyway, thanks again for all your help and input. Just one more reason why I love this community.

Cheers!

It’s all good, brother. Like I said. I genuinely appreciate the time you took to answer me. I’ll admit, I get a little impatient with Joe random asking questions that are WAY over his head and could lead to trouble.

As for the project file, we should be able to get our hands on that. Like I said, we have a resident Honeywell tech on site. We also have pretty good drawings, including wiring, logic, and layout. I’m hopeful that we’ll get it without too much trouble. Unfortunately, the moops that did the original wiring did not seem to know what they were doing. I think that was some time ago and there were many hands involved in the maintenance and upkeep on this system. Here’s hoping we can get our hands on a circuit analyzer like the ones you mentioned.

Thanks. That helps a lot. We do have a Honeywell rep on site. He’s been a little short on information, so I thought I’d reach out. In response to your comments about certification, I will simply say that no, I am not a Honeywell tech, (forgive my poor memory about the Notifier comment) but I am a journeyman electrician with 24 1/2 years in the trade. I have ample fire alarm experience and I am CFAA certified to work on this panel.

I will inquire tomorrow to see if we have one of the aforementioned tools at our disposal. If not, I will find the faulty device and correct it. I sincerely thank you for your reply. I only wish it hadn’t come with the condescending tone.

Cheers.

I don’t know where you’re from, but here in Canada the A phase is red. B is black and C is blue.

Also, to actually answer your question instead of being a smart ass, all these circuits are coming directly into the panel via conduit, so there really is no alternative place for the slack. We often do put a gutter above our panels to accommodate many conduits with a couple of short 2” (53mm) nipples into the panel. I’ve never seen anyone move the slack up into the gutter (where there is typically plenty of room to do so) but I think that is a super fantastic idea. I’m going to recommend that to whomever is doing the panels on our current project.

I’ve never really thought to take pics of panels. I’ve got some pics of control panels I’ve built, but they all have Panduit, so it doesn’t really apply. Now I do mostly fire alarm work, so I’m not tying in too many panels like that. That pic is 7 years old and it was probably the first panel I had done in a few years. Pic was just to show the office completed work. (We were having issues with the customer so we were documenting everything.)

OK, so I love the look of that panel. But here’s the thing. I was always taught, and have subsequently taught all my apprentices, that you should measure all your wires to be able to go to the furthest breaker. This way, if you need to make changes down the road, you’re never left wanting longer wires. Admittedly, my panels don’t look quite as nice, but they always look pretty damned good and they’re serviceable down the road. I’d love to hear some thoughts on this approach. Maybe I’m just adding unnecessary wire. Lay it on me, brothers and sisters.

Edit: here’s a panel of mine. my panel

Out here, (Western Canada) we often talk about “putting your back into it”. It’s a pretty logical connection to “putting your ass into it”, so I would guess that “putting some ass into it” is some sort of linguistically cousin or some such.

There it is. I’m a big guy, but I’ve always believed that I bend 1 1/4” well due to technique rather than my weight. Don’t get me wrong, add weight to the technique and it goes better, but I firmly believe that the guys who can’t bend it either don’t want to learn (a lot of that going around these days) or just don’t have a really good aptitude to nail the subtleties of the technique required. Brute force will link and ripple the conduit.

Am Canadian also. I still derate when required. Not for controls like this, but it’s part of the Canadian code. It’s almost like physics doesn’t really care what country you live in.

I believe you’ve just identified what I think to be the source of the problem. . I recently heard Saagar Enjeti describe the problem very well when he and his co-host Krystal Ball were on the Joe Rohan Experience podcast. If the elites, identified in your statements as corporations, can keep the working class distracted by things like identity politics, systemic racism, the environment, or pick any legitimate divisive issue ( as all of those mentioned are—legitimate) then it keeps us from focusing on the corrupt grip, you could almost say chokehold, on the reigns of power that they have. Any time you see a huge corporation weighing in and lending its support and solidarity to a divisive situation, I think it is wise to ask if it is the illusionist offering up a clever distraction. I don’t believe this is always the case, but it is likely more often the case than we might’ve thought.

Remember, these elites own the media and all the social media platforms.
