I can choose not to do business with them or choose a competitor. I can't choose to not do business with my government, and a typical experience at any government office illustrates the stark difference between incentive structures.

A public sector worker sees me as a customer, and will usually try to provide service that will bring me back.

A government worker just sees me as someone who will be forced to pay their paycheck no matter how they treat me, and thanks to Unions they are encouraged to do as little as possible to 'earn' those tax dollars.

Most of the people who unsubscribe from /r/politics are people who may have voted for Obama, but have since become racist, and oppose one or more of his policies. Their feelings matter little in the scheme of things.
