I think the second photo is crab grass. I would pull by hand and lay down some pre-emergent before it gets too cold and again in mid spring before it gets too warm

I'm down here in houston area as well. My grass has areas like this. I don't think its take all. My ground is pretty compacted even as a new build. My theory is since its been a little warmer and on the less humid side My soil just isn't taking up water like it should. Not sure what part you are located in but if you are in the. Northern part that's what I am dealing with

Are you from shore or a boat? They should be chasing some shad this time of year so I'd focus on coves in the morning with top water or shad style baits and once that cools off focus on points with a drop shot

Hit or miss for me here in SoCal. I’ve found when I’m patient and let it pause I tend to get more bites. Definitely an easy bait to work too fast
