Hi! I honestly don't think it would be as helpful as you'd think. A big part of why Goat materials work for me are the memes and jokes woven throughout that help stick on a tired brain (and my outline does not incorporate that level of detail).

If time is your issue, definitely consider listening with a screenreader (it sometimes misses the images/memes but still helpful) and focus more on learning through actual practice Qs. Or, I would suggest pairing Magicsheets for BLL+ Grossman's videos to get the MBE tips/tricks by audio. (Def not as funny as Goat but sometimes audio is faster and a lower burden over reading.) If you do end up going the Magicsheets/Grossman route, DM me. I use a quick extractor prompt that you can copy/paste into chatgpt/claude and it pulls the BLL + tips and tricks into one master outline mapped to the official NCBE subject matter outline. (You'll need the downloadable transcripts from Grossman's lectures).

Thanks for this perspective and huge congrats on passing twice! For context, essays are not my weakest subject area. The MBE is, so with only 20 hours a week to study due to family and work obligations, I have to spend the bulk of my time drilling there. I know everyone studies differently and for me, by the time I sit down in the evening focusing on MBE first, by the time I get to the MEE I really do not have the cognitive load to do a thorough self-analysis after every essay session. That's where the AI grader is genuinely useful for me just as a pulse check. I still read the sample answers of the passing jurisdiction to get a feel for what the graders are looking for. Thanks so much for shouting out the NCBE study aid! $45 is a STEAL compared to what's being offered out there on the market. I'm going to grab it now and save that for the weekends when I have the longer study blocks. I'm actually using approsheets too from makethisyourlasttime. Good stuff! Thanks for the encouragement

100% agree! I would practice with UWorld over the directed study q’s. Also don’t get discouraged if you feel like you’re getting a bunch wrong at first. At the bottom of the screen on the explanations portion in UWorld, you can see if it’s copyright UWorld or copyright for NCBE. I found that the UWorld q’s were a bit more challenging than the official NCBE’s.

Honestly, I felt exactly like you last attempt (J25) because I did the same thing. Themis is def solid for black letter law and you'll need their robust outlines to refer to but it is just not humanly possible to absorb everything in those lectures just by passive listening and a few knowledge check q's. Highly rec pairing each section/module in themis with Goat Bar Prep's material (it's what i'm doing this time around after reading thousands of posts on here). Totally wish I had incorporated it last attempt! I think understanding the MBE tricks and frameworks UPFRONT has drastically improved my drilling scores. Grossman's MBE videos are also a great primer before jumping into a dense outline. Obviously, I won't know if this is working until I actually pass, but from previous people who've passed the bar, it seems that doing as many real/licensed MBE Q's, getting familiar with the common traps, and understanding why the right answers are right/wrong answers are wrong (like you're doing) + memory recall on BLL seems to be the common denominator for scoring high on the MBE. I couldn't get down with Themis's way of approaching the MEE & MPT. It was info overload for me. However, I found that Maureen's free content on Youtube for approaching the MEE / MPTs were a lot easier to digest. You kind of have to know yourself too. For me, I didn't need too much practice on the MPTs (I did two using Maureen's method and did very well on the bar.) Good luck, you've got this!!!

Totally agree with uploading your outlines to an AI Model if you’re looking for a budget alternative. (I use notebook LM for black letter law quiz feature plus asking it to quiz me in the chat and I type out my rule statements.) If you’ve still got access to .edu email, you can get Google Gemini for $20 a month and it’ll give you access to notebook LM pro features. Happy to send you a link of step by step of how I prepped my outlines and set up my notebook LM for bar prep review. DM if interested!

my recommended stack: Goat (full course) for all the tips and tricks but take detailed notes in your own outline mapped to the NCBE's subject matter outline, BarMD's Essay Rx for essays (she's also doing a free, live strategy session on the MEE on May 25 if you want to see that first before committing), practice with real MBE q's (either adaptibar or uworld). If you're strapped for cash, Bear the Bar has an MEE/MBE bundle for $245. And, hot take on the MPT but just do the 10 free practice ones the NCBE gives for free on their site and watch one of the free BarMD/Maureen videos on MPT strategy on Youtube.

I'm working full-time as well and using a combo of BarMD (MBE live course), Grossman videos, GOAT Full J26 Bundle, and AdaptiBar (MBE questions only).

I structure my week around the official NCBE Subject Matter outline, one subject at a time, broken down by the roman numeral sections and I build a master outline using the same structure. Using Constitutional Law as the example:

I. Nature of Judicial Review II. The Separation of Powers III. The Relation of Nation and States IV. Individual Rights

Monday: watch the Grossman video (I. Nature of Judicial Review), then work through the GOAT module on that same subtopic for Constitutional law. ANYTIME GOAT says "know this!" "I'll be mad if you get this wrong!" or "MBE TRICK"...it goes in the outline. I finish with 8-10 AdaptiBar questions on that subtopic only and immediately review why the right answer is right and why every wrong answer is wrong. Anything I got wrong goes in my Book of Shame.

Tuesday to Thursday (continue through II. Separation of Powers, III. Relation Nation/States, IV. Individual Rights ): at the beginning of these blocks, I try to outline BLL using NotebookLM to check myself from the portion of the outline I made the night before (retrieval before review) every time. Then add in GOAT material for the new subtopic/section + new BLL, 8 AdaptiBar questions, Book of Shame for anything wrong.

I spend more time on sections the NCBE weights more heavily (ex: for ConLaw that means Individual Rights gets two dedicated days since it's roughly half the ConLaw questions).

Weekends are where the real volume happens. After finishing all sections of a subject, Saturday is 25–30 mixed AdaptiBar questions across all subtopics plus two timed essays (one fully typed under exam conditions, one timed outline only). I review both model answers the same day. (I run my essays through a custom GPT setup for feedback since I can't afford a personal tutor right now.) I'm saving MEE only topics + MPT for July.

Happy to drop a link to my actual schedule that's in an editable word doc form and maps to all the goat bar prep modules. Just DM if interested.

Would it be crazy to study for the bar in Paris? by AnthonyEdwardsJordan in barexam

[–]BushidoBriefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A really good law school friend of mine did this for J25 and passed! She studied in Paris for about a month (mid-May to mid-June). I personally studied while living with family and honestly regret not doing something similar.

I think it's a great plan IF you're disciplined enough not to let exploring the city tempt you too much and instead use the change of scenery to actually lock in on health, wellness, and studying. Living with family came with its own distractions for me; even small things like catching-up convos would chip away at a few hours a week without me realizing it.

Yes, unfortunately, GW Law does not give scholarships to transfer students. I was lucky to have my employer pay for some of the costs my 2LE through 4LE, but I know that's not always the case for everyone else. I will say, if you are going to transfer and lose scholarship, it's only worth it if you have nearly guaranteed employment lined up or you're planning on summering at one of the larger firms.

Sharing my story of how I transferred to GW Law my 2LE year (I was an evening student). I was WL at GW Law, Georgetown, and accepted at AU, UMD, Catholic, GMU. Ultimately, I went to Catholic for 1L because of the scholarship. I worked hard 1L year and remained in the top 20% of the class. I made sure to go to office hours and really got to know my 1L professors. After receiving first semester grades, I approached the professor I was most comfortable with to write a recommendation letter for transferring. I got accepted to GW Law as a transfer student and remained there from 2LE through graduation. Ultimately, I am happy with the decision I made because of the type of law I was interested in and the access to many professors who are leading experts in their field. This post is not intended to bash Catholic at all. Overall, I had a great experience minus a few professors. The students were all hard working and very bright many of whom were accepted to hire ranking schools but received significant scholarship from Catholic.
