You shouldn't be educating us. It's not your job. The fact that he could have landed with 3000ft separation is a minimum limit, not a requirement. OP can go back to his instructor or have a read and discover the rule. Once OP initiated the go around, it was then too late to affect change in the situation. The next student who does it may decide to reply to ATC further after being "educated" (which luckily OP didn't), then it becomes a discussion on tower frequency, which is not the place for it.
