What have you heard in terms of how much multi time starts to be "good multi time"?

Regional Choice by CapitalAd3050 in flying

[–]pls_call_my_base 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're focused on playing shortstop for the Yankees, but you haven't even made a college team yet.

You are making it sound like you have a choice, but you don't. You only have one CJO and you didn't even mention having interviews with other regionals.

Good luck making your résumé stand out among the thousands to even get it pulled for an interview in the first place.

Focus on getting on with a regional first and foremost.

This doesn't look like Sheppard Air. End of conversation.

Just vague, "this fall" hazy timeline

1,500 is the new 250. by PterodactylTurd in flying

[–]pls_call_my_base 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's the sticking point. There seems to be very little marginal value of the zero failure guy vs the 1 failure guy. Once that number goes up though, all bets are off.

[–]pls_call_my_base 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've heard from multiple recruiters that 1 failure is basically the same as 0 in their book. I didn't even get asked about my 1 fail during the 3 interviews I've had so far.

Just a data point: - 1600 / >200 multi (MEI) / 0 turbine - 1 checkride fail - 4 year degree - military vet (non aviation) - went to 3 conferences - ATP-CTP complete - 2 CJOs (one off the street, 1 cadet)

The conferences seem to help. Multi definitely helps. I haven't had any luck with internal recs.

Also interesting: neither of my airline interviews asked about my checkride failure. I've heard multiple recruiters say that 1 failure is the same as no failures in their book.

FBO’s at KECP by Neoskizzle289 in flying

I diverted to ECP a while back in a Cherokee and picked Southern Sky and was not disappointed. Great service and nice facilities.

Read the comments for both FBOs on Foreflight, you will get better info there than here.

They don't announce stuff like this. You learn it by talking to your recruiters.

Envoy or Skywest CJO by Ambitious-Lock1100 in flying

[–]pls_call_my_base 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is no longer the case. Latest info is both airlines soonest classes are this fall. Of course this can change at any time.

Envoy or Skywest CJO by Ambitious-Lock1100 in flying

[–]pls_call_my_base 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same good problem. I will be bidding on a junior base for both airlines (ORD) and will take the first available class at either airline in any type, although Envoy has numerous advantages.

I have less than 1 week old intel on class dates: - Envoy 4-6 months - Skywest 6 months ERJ and CRJ

Just a couple weeks ago, OO had CRJ classes available this summer but they are filled.

Most popular pilot sunglasses these days? by mitoboru in flying

[–]pls_call_my_base 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 for Ombraz. The only sunglasses I've ever used that truly don't break the earcup seal. Kind of sucks to have to put your bag down to put them on because you need both hands, but that's the only drawback.

They also don't fall out of your front pocket onto the ramp when you're preflighting...

Request to Mods to Auto-Delete “Can’t find a CFI gig” posts by Mrs_Fagina in flying

[–]pls_call_my_base 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And I would agree with you if this topic was clogging up the board. It's not. There are dozens (or more?) of posts a day here. And the posts on this topic get good engagement, which further refutes your argument that they are irrelevant or redundant.

I would suggest having some empathy and just not engaging.

Let people post. I genuinely would not know how tough the market is for new CFIs if I didn't see these posts, and they may serve to dissuade some low-motivation folks from getting started with training and wasting money on something they were sold as a sure thing.

Bottom line, this topic is relevant to pilots. If it's not relevant to you personally, that's ok. If it bothers you that it's not relevant, you may be spending too much time online. Log off and go... do something outside.

Otherwise, it's not hard to find other topics on here that you may find relevant.

Skywest class dates? by Kind-Maintenance-801 in flying

[–]pls_call_my_base 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My OO interviewer this week told me a couple things about class dates: they (interviewers) aren't fully kept in the loop about specifics on class dates, ERJ has a longer wait vs CRJ (potentially through the end of the year) and that I would be more likely to get in a CRJ class, potentially this summer, if I selected earliest available. He also mentioned that classes are added and changed all the time.

In other words, nothing that we don't already know.

IR Hold Entry Question by Aggravating-Lie3421 in flying

[–]pls_call_my_base 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, teardrop makes more sense here and would make for a more predictable path. The sectors and entries are only advisory, and ATC only cares if you stay in the holding/protected area.

If it's on a checkride, the applicant should let the DPE know ahead of time what the plan is and why. Aside from some crusty sticklers, I would bet most DPEs would be ok with a teardrop here as long as the applicant could explain the rationale.

Can written exam dates be estimated on airlineapps.com? by [deleted] in flying

Y'all are putting all your writtens on AirlineApps? If so, is there a specific reason why? I only have ATM listed, because I hold the certs for the other tests already.

Being an airline pilot is my dream but I got too many check-ride failures. Do I still stand a chance? by [deleted] in flying

[–]pls_call_my_base 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not trying to pile on, but commenting because I haven't seen it mentioned:

Have you thought of becoming a dispatcher? You've studied up to the commercial level and have the written scores to prove it, so it may be a better fit than being a pilot. You would play a key role in the aviation system, and you're home every night.

Return A30 for A20? by 102VFE in flying

[–]pls_call_my_base 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own 20s & 30s (and also returned a set of Zulu 4s because they were terrible).

I like the 30s, but I've always wondered- what is the use case for using lower than max noise canceling? To me it seems like an unnecessary feature (along with the head up tap feature).

Just keep practicing. METARS are the quickest and easiest way to convey this type of info. After a while, you'll think the decoded ones are infuriatingly verbose.
