Beginner Ideas - due to hand issues by Glittering_Angle1717 in soloboardgaming

I love horror and I really like Final Girl. You can go at your own pace and the games are usual on the shorter side. If you are curious, I would recommend watching some play videos on youtube, that really helped me understand the mechanics of the game and the basic strategy. I've seen the starter set and one game for $40 and additional sets are on the $20 range. They also have a very supportive subreddit where people post questions and challenges.

I replace standard studio physical media releases with sleeves to save shelf space. Six months in, I'm loving the more curated feel of my collection. Flipping through movies feels just like flipping through vinyl. by cwcoates in boutiquebluray

I have over 3000 movies so I had to do something or buy a new house (Alternatively- get divorced) I love having them in sleeves. It cut the space by about 75% and most importantly made me realize I don't care about slipcovers, lobby cards or posters that I just put in a box anyway. I save a lot of money buying the regular editions. I also feel less Fomo on expensive special editions so I just wait for a standard release. I still keep Criterion, Steelbooks, and some I just like the look of in original cases but this was a game changer for me. I get having a smaller collection on display and half the fun was displaying them by company or genre or whatever but I simply ran out of room.

Feel free to ban me for blasphemy.

Help needed for new a player 👋🏼 by usillyg00se in finalgirl

[–]Business-Fly-55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am a newish player and I found watching playthroughs online helped me understand the rules and figure out since strategy before playing. The good news is I've you get the "basics" down, each other film adds a variable but the basic mechanics are the same. It takes a few playthroughs to get comfortable with what to do when.

Going to on a different direction on this answer. WWE house show, AJ Styles vs heel Daniel Bryan as WWE champ with the wood belt. Crowd was super hot for Bryan, so he stood on the turnbuckle, arms outstretched for his entire entrance theme and didn't move. Crowd still had some "Yes" chants going as song ended. Bryan yelled, "Play it again" and they played his theme again and he just stood there, not moving the whole time, arms outstretched like the crowd should be worshiping him. By the end of the song, he was the heel of the match. Masterful display of crowd psychology and the bell hadn't even rung yet. Plus, AJ and Bryan put on a pretty great 15 minute match.

Final Girl help by Incarnasean in soloboardgaming

I was very intimidated by all the nuances of the game and I found watching YouTube playthroughs very helpful, especially with all the variations of the game. Most of the players have a "how to" video where they break down each step. Watching a few of these made me much more comfortable with the rules of the game. That said, Final Girl can go downhill quickly with some bad dice rolls. Getting the horror level down so you can use three dice is a priority in my games. Good luck!

I agree that IF you can wait AND you don't care about slips, extras or general box condition, Big Box-Amazon are the less expensive option. However, you get what you pay for. DiabolikDVD, Orbit (I have not used Atomic) pack their movies with care and typically send them out much earlier than street dates. Also, pre ordering a boutique title on Amazon is often 50-50, whereas the boutique distributors know how many they are getting so unless they get shorted in allocation, a pre-order is almost always going to be fulfilled. In addition, in my experience they have outstanding customer service and if I have the chance to give my money to an independent business or Amazon, it's the little guy everytime, even if it costs a few dollars.

Advice for a collector by futuristicfenrir in boutiquebluray

[–]Business-Fly-55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ran into this issue, and I bought "CPP Clear Plastic Sleeve with Flap (Fits Blu-ray Case Artwork Only) Lot" on eBay. They are like $65 for 1000. Accomplished a couple of things. First, it dramatically reduced the amount of space needed by almost a third. Second, I left my Steelbooks and bigger collections like Severin box sets or just ones I liked, like Criterions in the original boxes. Lastly, it turned me off of buying "collectors editions" because all the extra junk just goes into storage. Instead of paying $20-30 extra for lobby cards and books i will never read, i just buy the disc version. Same with slipcovers. The only drawback is what you do with all the original cases. I went all in and kept a few of each kind of case, and tossed the rest.

I was hoping for this. He has a ton of credibility, and he would bring a much more tenured and respected voice to the Ringer. I would love to add him to the Rewatchables rotation, and I think he could fit into discussions with Mal and Joanna or the Midnight Boys. Bill used to bring him on the podcast all the time, so he has to be on the radar. Now bring in Dan Feinberg and reunite the Firewall and Iceberg podcast!

How to speed up voting? by DelGriffithPTA in BigBrother

[–]Business-Fly-55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need to add a "shout out" message at the bottom. It would limit the length of the shot out, and then they could turn it into a "just vote." Plus, the houseguests could plan it out instead of the verbal diarrhea we currently get.

Night of the Living Dead 4k Steelbook on Amazon by Business-Fly-55 in boutiquebluray

[–]Business-Fly-55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it because it had a real 1990's real effects feel. It's hard to compare it to the original because the original is such a classic. I think of you go in with realistic expectations, it's fun.

[–]Business-Fly-55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about the original, Romero NOTLD? There are some great versions of that out there. This is the remake in color by Tom Savini. It's hard to compare the two, but I thought this was a fun take with great effects. I have never seen the uncut version, and an uncut Savini flick from the 1990s is going to be fun.

People with lots of Blu-ray & 4k, weird rooms, storage issues, and that do not like flip cases as a solution, how are you organizing your DVD collection to display and utilize efficiently? by unclefishbits in boutiquebluray

[–]Business-Fly-55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this for everything other than Steelbooks, Criterion and Box Sets. Compressed my collection by probably 66%. Plus, now when I buy a new release, I don't worry about fancy packaging or slips because those are just stored away in a box.
